Abandon unwanted registry changes without powering off PC?
CyberGenX replied to Curley_Boy's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Anything done in the registry is "realtime". If you have WinXP or WinME you can use the System Restore feature. If you have Windows 98 you can use the scanreg feature in DOS mode and then choose View Backups and possbily restore one from there. Otherwize yer screwed. -
XP Installation = UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME, HELP!!!!
CyberGenX posted a topic in Customization & Tweaking
Trying to install XP on a new machine, booting from cdrom. After the initial hoopla and drive formatting, windows must reboot. After it reboots I get the XP splash screen for a second and then a BSOD that says UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. Hardware: MSI KT3 Ultra 2, PC2100 DDR, XP1800+, 40 Gig WD 8MB Cache, Elsa 16MB Vanta LT, Realtek NIC, Diamond Supra Modem, Onboard sound, onboard USB, 52XCDROM, 32X CDRW. Hard disk is Master on its own channel. What I have done so far: 1. Pissed and moaned 2. Disabled USB and tried install and format again 3. Checked BIOS settings and tried to set everything as stable as pos. 4. Formatted drive using Full NTFS format (used quick format option before) 5. Raised fists in air and cursed VIA! Please help, MS knowledge base isn't a help -
XP Installation = UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME, HELP!!!!
CyberGenX replied to CyberGenX's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Found the solution, installed Windows 2000, everything worked fine. Wonder why, never changed a setting after the last attempt. -
As for AMD's process, they just use child labor. The kids get a set of clean room PJs and a cot next to the assembly line. The do it all by hand. :x

I have 3 drives set up as follows: 2X80 GIG on RAID Stripe 0 for a total of 160 gig array on that array is a 20 gig boot/os partition and a 140 gig program/game partition. I also have a 13gig on another channel that holds about 12 gigs of mp3s. Should I have any more swap file than what's on c:, the boot drive, or should I add a swap file drive the the 140gig partition as well. Does having another swap file add any performance?

I have 2 Windows XP PRO SP1 boxes on a small home network of 3 computers (other 1 is laptops). The 2 XP boxes have static Public IPs on different ranges and subnets (that's just how my ISP gave them to me). So I use NetBios to share files 'tween the two. Both computers have shared folders that the other computers utilize, and have for over a year. This morining I go to use a share (on either computer) and now get a login prompt titled "Connect to computername" that looks more like a dial up prompt. The user name is greyed out but says COMPUTERNAME\Guest. NO PASSWORD WORKS. Here's what I have already tried that has not worked. 1. Shutting down the entire network, including switch and cable modem. 2. Checking and making sure the Guest account is DISABLED, like it was. 3. Going through Network Neighborhood 4. Checking user account passwords and making sure password does not expire. 5. Killing any 3rd party programs from startup. 6. Disabling connection sharing and firewall. 7. Removing and creating a new share. No new programs were introduced, no viri found, nothing was changed at all, this happened overnight!!!!!!!!! Please Help.

So, how many of you out there noticed the new (old) tag Nvidia is sporting? Looks like the last 3DFX project hybrid with GeForce technology. I can't wait to get this card. Opinions Please....

I have WindowsXP Pro SP1 (which I am starting to think was a huge mistake). I Ran a web stripper and it created a file on my desktop, named test. When I try to delete the file I get : "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." I get the same error trying to Rename, Copy or Move the folder. If I double click the folder I get a much longer error saying the file or location is unavailable. I CAN create another file with the exact same name. Once I do that BOTH folders work and act like mirrored folders. Anything put into one, shows up in both, but I still cannot delete BOTH, one always remains. I have tried removing the file from the console in safe mode, It tells me the file does not exist. Help me KILL this folder!!!!!
-
The console command dir /x and then rename file, then delete file worked!!!! Thank you very much~!
-
Yes it is NTFS. I tried the repair option and went to console from there already. The file is listed but windows acts like it doesn't exist when you try to do anything to it, including renaming and changing attribs.

I need put an ENTIRE web site on a laptop for offline viewing. What is the best way or best piece of software to do this?
-
I am looking for an ad/web window pop up killer. There are so many, I'm sure that y'all could tell me quicker than me trying them all out. Must be a FREE one. Thanks in advance

This is for a client who uses MSN for their ISP. They only use the MSN Explorer, sorry I failed to mention that.

Anyone have a decent PCI capture card that is XP compatible?
CyberGenX replied to pr-man's topic in Buy, Sell or Trade
MSI has a really nice model for under $79. It comes with remote and supports AVI, MPG, VCD, SVCD, MPEG4 etc. I love it. www.msi.com.tw -

Honestly I never liked ATI cards other than TV Tuner/Capture. Back in the day it was 3DFX, Nvidia and Matrox. I seems as though ATI is always plagued with some sort of prob. or incompat. with hardware/software etc. It's not good when you have the fastest GPU (currently) and the slowest driver/compatibility time tables. I was a die hard 3DFX fan, and with this newer GeForce coming out, I couldn't even ponder switching yet again. Nvidia should just say f*ck it and try to purchase ATI.

I am at work but I believe it is the Epox 8K7A+, not sure on the Rev. But it was at the latest bios last time I checked (6 months ago). Although it is not a dual board, it still detected my XP 1800+ as an MP1800+ with just one flick of the bios option.
-
If I enable the MP ID Detect in my BIOS on my old Epox board it detects it (cpu) from there and in Windows as an MP and not an XP.
-
What's the point of unlocking the Multiplier, aside to OC? The last thing you want is 2 unstable CPUs.
-
From what I have heard you just put them both on a dual board and in the bios make sure (if avail.) that the option to identify the cpus for MP is enabled.
-
From what I have been told be at least 10 people now is that XP cpus will do multi-processing but are not certified. MP processors ARE certified for mp environments. You technically could use two XP cpus on a dual board. I don't know what the outcome is though...

I get an error that says "Unexpected Office Version" and then the SP3 install exits. Why? :x

I feel stupid now, yes I misread as well thinking it was Office XP SP3. I thought it was rather quick of a release as well. Boy do I feel dumb...
