Yes, but corporate.

Yeah I just moved to my new actual office from my home office, cable to DSL and I feel like my d:ck shrank 3 inches. I am already in the process of convincing my partner and CEO to up the DSL to anything higher than 640Kbps. I went from downloads at an average of 300K to downloads at 60K!!! I do realize there are 10 other computers on the connection as well. I will have to do some bandwidth limiting here now that I have a full fledged IT room, instead of being the guy that comes in (from home) when things go wrong or need up[censored].

Right Click on Network Places and choose Find computer. Then type the IP of the other computer in. If you are on the same range and running TCP you should see each other. Disable internet connection sharing and fire wall crapp on the xp machine. MAKE SURE that in the Services console they are stopped and/or disabled.

Have gone thru that modem and 2 other brands, they all do it. Cox told me that it is the "code red" virus and other variants. Also it is broadcast signals from the network devices and dhcp renewals. And lastly if you have any spyware installed on your computer then you are sending data as well. :x

Go to Control Panel and then Game Controllers. From there choose "Add" and then select "Microsoft Sidewinder (auto-detect)" and you're done.

I get a wierd error saying "Pins are not connected" when trying to play some videos, this only happens radomly though and a reboot takes care of it.

I am pretty sure it can work with ME, i would still use 98SE as the bootdisk though, it has more functionality.
-
Step 1: Make sure you have the following A: Windows 98 Cab files or CD B: Windows 98 Bootdisk www.bootdisk.com C: CD Burner D: Blank CD E: CD Burner software (I prefer Nero) Step 2: Make the disk A: Put in blank disk B: Put in boot disk C: Open Nero (or other) D: Tell it you are creating a bootable disk E: It will ask you to browse to the floppy for boot record F: Then drag your 98 files over and click burn If you want it to got directly to windows setup, you will need to modify the autoexec.bat on the boot disk to do so.

I will try that tomorrow. I can ping almost any other address like i.e. ping www.computergenx.com with 4 successful responses, so it is connected at some level.

Proxy isn't selected, and the DSL is not PPoE. Any computer can come in with just DHCP enabled and get internet instantly. This laptop won't do it with them set statically or DHCP!!! I have also tried installing the latest I.E. 6.0 to no avail.

Full or Half Duplex? on Intel Pro 100 networkcard
CyberGenX replied to catics1's topic in Networking
Full Duplex gets better performance on 100Mbps Switching HUBs. On regular 10/100 non-switching HUBs it isn't all that great. -
I'll just make my own browser like (Tech Launcher www.computergenx.com) Screw the bandwagon, I want to jump on the performance wagon.

I agree with Christianb 9.X (95-ME) is dead, like DOS. It should only be run on sub 300MHz computers. Dualbooting ME and 98 is like dualbooting DOS 6.2 and DOS 6.22. It's not a stupid question. Go with NT 5.x you'll wish you had a long time ago.

Tell him to look in the startup folder, regitry and system.ini. In the registry (regedit) go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ There you will see RUN and RUN SERVICES. There will be listed everything that starts up with windows. In system.ini (go to Start, then choose RUN and type SYSEDIT) look for anything that starts up with windows there. Also you can go to Add Remove programs and look for any programs that to system maintenance.

Really! I am dualbooting right now with a similar drive setup without a boot manager. I have 2000 SP3 on my RAID array and a 40 gig on channel 2 as master with 98 on it. All I do is go into the BIOS and tell it to boot to either RAID or Drive 2 (starts at 0). As long as you disconnect the other drives (during OS install), and your bios allows it you can have 4+ drives booting whatever you want. I also have Mandrake 8.2 on drive 0, so i guess that's triple booting.
-
Yes you can install 98 on that drive. You would probably want to disconnect the XPdrive just so 98 doesn't try anything funny, even though it's NTFS. Unless you use third party partitioning software you will have to dual boot using BIOS. i.e. Boot to C: or Drive 0 for XP and boot to D: or Drive 1 for 98, assuming that this is how the BIOS sees your drive scheme.

How fast is your PC? AMD XP 1800+ @ 1.61GHz
-
I know what you mean, I just sold my server because it became obsolete. It used to hold our MP3s, with these two new 80Gig drives I bought, I just hold all the data now.
-
Disconnect the drive and then try to enter CMOS/BIOS. You'll find out then if it is on the drive or not.
-
I believe so, but don't quote me. I just said that windows update provided that version to my GF2 GTS back when 23.11 were about a month old.

Try disabling USB. I have seen usb on some systems with a ATI rade.. do the "lock and release" glitch. It's like the whole computer freezes for a second then returns to normal and the cycle continues. Disabling USB in the BIOS solved this 2 out of 3 times. If that works, get a new video card, or live without USB. Also make sure your vid card is not sharing IRQ.
-
23.12 actually came up on Windows update driver section. I remember having the 23.11s and going to windows update, there it said 23.12 was available, I thought it was wierd but they worked fine.

That's an old mb! Latest BIOS flash is 10-10-01. Latest minport depends on the OS either 5-2001 or 5-2002, latest driver pack is 1.30 (5-2001). Latest AGP Driver is 5-2002 for Win 2000 and XP. What Nvidia drivers are you using? Anyone remember the registry patch to enable 2X AGP?

Also waiting for ....HL2.

In search of a PCI network card with the BNC hookup...
CyberGenX replied to Lotus's topic in Networking
I used to have an old Realtek PCI combo card with BNC and RJ45. UPDATE: In fact I just checked the closet and I still have that old combo card!!!
