I totally forgot about Toshiba, the sad thing is (being a computer tech) that is the laptop i see the most on the bench. Let Toshiba be Other category. I checked out alienware, a lil' pricey like all mobiles i guess. What do you think about replacing my desktop with a Bas @ss mobile though?

Isn't it integrated with SP2 now? -
Minimun 300W on Athlon Machines is the standard, recommended. Do yourself a favor and get a 350W with 2 fans built in.

WinXP Multitasking < Win2k Multitasking?
CyberGenX replied to GHz's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I had that problem, among others, in XP with Adobe Premiere 6.02, it would just crawl and take up about 300MB RAM. 2000 would only take 30MB and run great! Went back to 2000, screw the cartoonish, bloated, linux wannabe, reminds me of Window ME, 5,000 services running, security leaking, Home user OS. -
Try turning off some of the visual effects.

I have recently installed the 29.42s and have seen a couple wierd issues. Has anyone else out there seen this? Almost all of my games run fine, Spiderman doesn't run when double clicked on. The games that do run for some reason run really REALLY fast@!!!!!!! Here are some examples... Nascar 4 Before 29.42 79FPS average with everything up highest After 29.42 100FPS average with everything up highest sometimes it hits 160FPS!!!! FLF Before 29.42 80FPS average " " " " After 29.42 100FPS average " " " " DirectX Diagnostics 8.1 ON the 3D Cube Before 29.42 it went regular speed for a Geforce2 but after 29.42 the cube goes so fast like 20 times the speed I am used to seeing!!! For the most part I don't mind the extra 20 FPS but are these drivers somehow overclocking the GPU/MEM? I have checked all the settings and all seems ok and set to what the 28.32s were set at.

Ever since I downloaded and installed DirectX 8.1b; 1. 75% of my game emulators stopped working correctly or at all. 2. 2 games have f^cked up anomalies. 3. Media player has full screen problems. What can I use to go back to 8.1.Original?
-
Ran a DirectX uninstaller. Back to 8.1 now, 1 emulator still doesn't work, will have to figure that one out. Thanks for your suggestions.

I have a SB Live! Value. 4 Speakers + subwoofer Driver 3509.2.0.0 11-2-2001 After a couple hours of idle time only 2 speakers work out of the 4 (not including the subwoofer, it works). I have to manually set it to 2 speakers and then back to 4 again for it to work. It is becoming quite annoying. This doesn't happen with older drivers, but who wants 2 year old drivers? Is there a reg fix or even newer Value drivers that don't do this?

I tried this method, and when I go to install 2000 it says there are a lot of files missing!!!?

I have to set up a wireless network for a home. Here is the scenario. 1) 2 Machines in 2 different rooms about 50Ft apart. 2) No line of site between either rooms. 3) Cable modem in one of the rooms to be connected. They have a cable modem in 1 room/home office and want to split it to the other room 50 ft away. I cannot run any cable, it has to be wireless. I need suggestions for cheap/stable/reliable wireless router and wireless cards. Also ideas on anything that may get in the way or hinder this project.

Windows System Restore takes up the most space, upwards of Gigs depending on amount allocated. Right click on My Computer and choose the System Restore tab, from there you can slim down its allocation or turn it off totally.

Power supply. I have seen this before and if it is not the PCI slot issue, you may have a bunk PS.

Does this work on Radio Frequency? Do the NICs have to see the Router?

bluescreen/lockup installing XP on athlon xp2000+ and asus a
CyberGenX replied to dmann05's topic in Hardware
That would be my suggestion as well, even going as far as putting in a cheapy pci video card if the AGP card doesn't make it through the install. If you do make it, install all the packs and updates, then install the cards 1 by 1. -
Yes that is how I have done it when I didn't Export Mail and Settings to begin with. You can just drag and drop the .dbx files.
