I believe that the coporate workstations SHOULD have restrictions on them. I hate when I go to fix a computer that is "crashing" and "acting wierd" and come to find ICQ, Bonzi Buddy, Comet Cursor, RealPlayer, KaZaA, and 10 other things in the SYSTRAY running. It stretches all the way to the damn start button! Anti-Virus is usually disabled because "It was too slow with it on." So I have to be the bad guy and remove all this crap. Next week it is back with the excuse that "It just came back all on its own". Yeah the ghost in the machine clicked "I Agree" for these fools.

Remember trying to install hardware modems on PBs? The COM ports would never obey the BIOS! I had a client that complained of problems, crashing and such. She had a friggin roach nest in her machine(like 10 roaches hanging out smokin er something) eeeeewwwww

That reminds me of a client that had ME upgrade from SE upgrade from 98 upgrade from 95 upgrade from 3.11! What clued me in was the windows start up sound, it sounded like 3.11. Then I asked and sure enough he had most of the CDs.

There are some people I will do favors for, like close friends, family and prospective (real) clients. But a lot of people think because you are their friend (hi and bye friend at least) that you will suddenly drop your LIFE and come running to work on their computer. I love working on computers, don't get me wrong, but you don't ask an accountant to come to your house and help roll pennies do you? And let's not get me started on SO-CALLED friends that only call when their computer is on the fritz...I hate being used like that. Doesn't everyone love this: You fix someones computer problem, all is well, you leave, and then get a call a day later "uh ever since you fixed my Office install the floppy won't work!" OR "the last one to touch it was you and now it won't work" where is this logic coming from? You don't tell a mechanic that ever since he changed the oil the tires are going flat do you? Thank goodness for that little buddy huh Sapiens.

What gets me is some of you still use pen and paper! You have a computer for christ sakes!!!! Copy and paste your settings and contacts into a txt file and save it where ever.
-
Also it's a good idea to post your machine stats so we can give you other solutions that may be hardware compatiblity related.

I never seen the service in action, always disable it right away! No problems here.

What do you consider the best computer game ever made?
CyberGenX replied to pr-man's topic in Slack Space
Tony Hawk Pro Skate 2 and 3 Half-Life (Frontline Force and CS) EverQuest is seemingly for people who have entirely too much time on their hands. All my friends play it, a little to boring for me and $9.95 a month to play...geeeez -
Go to any 9.x registry. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup and look for yourself. I used to have to delete this key before we shipped out OEM computers, when deleted it prompts you for CD-KEY upon reaching desktop. It shows the FULL CD-KEY. This stopped in Windows 2000.
-
Quote: AFAIK, no version of Windows has ever stored the actual key anywhere after installation. That is WRONG, Windows 95-ME stored the CD-KEY in the registry.

I still want to know what happend to Netscape 5.0? Who jumps a version? Not even MS does that.

I have a GeForce 2 GTS PRO 64MB and a Voodoo Rush (no comments plz) Running dual display in Windows 2000. The GeForce is the primary monitor. Is it possible to play games on one display while still seeing the desktop on the other? When I try the game either crashes or I get a no D3D or Hardware XL detected error. Otherwise I disable the other display and it works fine. Is it my POS Voodoo Rush with no D3D drivers for 2K or does this happen on any 2nd card?

I have come to find that there are 100s of Novels that take place after the first one, between all and after Return of the Jedi...

Had a power outage on friend's machine. After outage, computer will display 2K splash screen and then before logon the monitor jumps to 120Hz and all is black. You can here it hit desktop as it plays the Windows startup wav. Here's what I've tried 1: Safe mode, VGA mode, console, Last Known good, etc. All resulted in 120Hz freq. displayed on a black background. The monitor tests fine. Video card tests ok in other system. 2. Took out video card and put in 2 MB PCI card. Get the following message "Unable to initialize video driver..." BSOD 3. Left AGP card in with PCI, same thing. 4. Renamed video drivers in repair console. BSOD. I get BSOD all the time now after renaming drivers, obviously. Need to know if there is a work around or fix. Or do I have to reload Windows. His stats are 800MHz Tbird FIC PC133 MB ELSA TNT 2 16MB VANTA 30 GIG ATA 66 drive Windows 2000 SP2

What about CipherDias (not spelled correctly) and the clone order?
-
Quote: Roll on episode three, only three years to wait, then if only somebody can convince Lucas to finish the story off the way he always wanted it to be done, as a nine part story I'll be even happier ********* Where would it go after EP III? EP VII? And who is the Jedi CipherDias that ordered the clones in EP I? Saw the movie for the 2nd time today!! Love it that much, you got to be a fan, if you are, you love all the movies.
-
Cannot get into safe mode, get error "video driver failed to initialize..."

I thought it rocked!!! ending was like Empire, with a sense of victory yet pending DOOM. Yodi was cool too, he uses the force to fly around, doesn't waste it on his ailing body. Love scene were like that in the OG 3 with Solo and Princess. Try to remember these movies have no foul language, no nudity or ***ual content, and little "graphic violence". GO LUCAS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure your network cards are set to full duplex. That means that the netcards will be able to send and receive data at the same time.
-
DirectCD is not bad for CDRW backup. I would not cut too many corners in the backup area though. Data, and keeping it safe is more important than how much you can save. What good is cutting corners when your databackup is corrupted or lost by faulty hardware or half-a$$ software.
-
Yup. No just kidding. You may be able to repair the reg rather than restoring it. The command prompt is where you start.

These days with ATA 133, DDR 333, RDRAM 533, and the latest fastest chips by Intel and AMD is MAC really worth it anymore? Does the latest MAC measure up or surpass? And what do you think is better?
