Yes ATI makes the best capture cards, I have the TV Wonder VE $49.99, its max is 352X240 which is VCD. The higher end card captures DV res.

I only got 5 degrees F cooler with arctic silver.

I have a similar problem on one of my machines running XP. It either won't connect or it connects, downloads all the updates BUT fails to install anything saying "Unable to create Catalog files".
-
Yes and It does the same thing
-
Thanks but it is a 40GIG NTFS single partition.
-
a 4X DVD is kinda slow, i had the same problems on with a SCSI 4X DVD. Seemed like it didn't like newer DVDs, would always skip. Got a 16X DVD and haven't seen a skip yet.

explorer.exe taking up 20% CPU..

Does this do the same thing with your chip clock at spec.? -
Try going to the users control panel (in safe mode) and make sure that you have administrative rights. Also you can try and create another account to log into windows from and see if it is your profile that may be corrupt. If you can log into windows without problem using another *new account than your previous one has the problem (software or corruption).

I have 2, a 8X4X32X LG in my server and a 24X10X40 LG with JustLink Technology in my machine. I bought them because they were cheep. I have gone through 400 CDRs on the 8X and NEVER had a coaster. The 24X is still new and on about burn number 20 or so, no coasters yet, even gives a message saying if any buffer underruns were prevented. I give them 5 stars for price and 5 for performance. Nero and Roxio work on both.

And of course you don't see AMD chips on INtel boards anymore, That would be like UPS delivering all the USPS's mail. People were buying AMD chips cheaper and putting them on Intel boards, Intel didn't like that.
-
yes I knew that, just wanted to throw in the fact that AMD chips ran on Intel motherboards for a while there.
-
AMD chips used to go on Intel chipset boards. Remeber socket 7 anyone.

Use GHOST, it's easy

Make sure in both NIC properties that you have the connection set to AUTOSENSE or 10Base-TX, do not use FULL DUPLEX. Try installing NetBEUI as well. Disable the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service in XP services too.

My 1800+ Machine runs @ 108 degrees F. With Vantec Solid copper and 58CFM 7200RPM. With a slower fan it runs at 122, no Artic Silver used. Inside the case the temp is 101.

WTF My brand new Maxtor 80 gig 7200rpm is showing only 75gig
CyberGenX replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
PR-Man STICK with NTFS!!! If you do video capturing like i do, FAT32 is your enemy!!! It only supports file sizes of 4.0 GIGs max! I learned this the hard way. Don't listen to anyone else on this. I produce video files for VHS conversion, my files are usually 5-7 gigs, FAT32 will corrupt after 4gigs. -
Sapiens74: What 20 steps do you mean. ON my system it's 1. Windows install 2. Windows SPs or Windows Update 3: VIA DRIVERS (not patches). That's all here, never had a problem. See MicroSoft likes to favor intel and embed their drivers.

Adobe Premiere 6.02 is the most cpu/mem intesive program I use (games don't even compare) My chip can rip DV/16bit Stereo from Adobe Premiere 6.0 pretty damn fast!!! There's nothing like using a slider through a 5 gig video file and having it keep up video wise without hardly a stutter.

We use Win2000 Server, Exchange Server, and ISA Server. Our server hardware is a dual AMD MP 1700+ Machine. ALL 28 workstations are either T-birds, Durons or XPs (2 K6-3s). There is not one intel machine in the house except the UPS machine and it crashes twice a day, I am the sysadmin and rarely deal with problems there. The majority of the problems are on the user end. All the mice work without patches and none of them have any patches intalled OTHER than Windows Update patches. None of them have had a new BIOS flash. None of them have artic silver (all are boxed) I am a good tech as well and have found that a truly good tech can make the worst of machines run without to much problems.

Check in your device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, check both channels and make sure you are running in some form of DMA mode. SOMETIMES with SOME drives XP will put it into PIO MODE. Also what type of video card do you have? Another thing that slows down XP is System Restore.

Dirty Harry: Thank you...You said it perfectly. Others: Recheck the name of the thread... Back to the subject, why is Intel so worried about the + rating, this will all change when the new AMD chips come out. It's not like their losing money because some fool sees 2000+ and buys it because it's cheaper than the 2.0GHZ P4. AMD's 2.0GHz chip would be cheaper than Intel's anyway (if it existed) just look at pricing the last 5 years. Why is Intel hosting classes to educate people on power rating? They didn't in the past. I say this not to shoot at Intel but to critique them. They have made a few bad decisions before that cost them...Intel had to push the P4 out before it was ready in order to keep up with AMD (anyone remember that?, no P4 MBs for weeks) Honestly if I had the money to BURN I would buy Intel. But I don't, and cannot justify the cost when my sh*t runs just as tight as yours (intel machines). I am just glad to have a choice unlike OS choices where you cannot get your cake and eat it too.
