I just bought this camera ----> Canon XL1S http://www.canondv.com/xl1s/xl1s_flash.html It takes MiniDVs. I am wondering what is the highest quality tape you can buy for it. Price isn't an issue. I just want the best as I will be filming some important footage. Thanks in advance.

I have 2 computers on a small network. Overnight without us making any changes a few things happened. 1. I lost my connections to mapped drives on my wife's machine 2. The guest accounts on both machines were suddenly enabled 3. NetBeui was missing, was there 2 days prior. 4. We can see each other but cannot login to shares on each others PC. 5. I cannot even login under her account or administrator. I get the following prompt when I try. The user name is greyed OUT!!!! When I set network passwords under WinXPs user accounts in control panel I get this None of the passwords work! Here is what I tried: 1. Turned off XP's Firewall 2. Turned off and then turned the shares back on 3. deleted accounts and recreated them 4. power cycled everything (PCs, Hubs, cable modem) 5. Windows Update 6. Tried logging into my computer as HER and connecting to HER machine 7. Scanned for viruses 8. Removed protocols and reinstalled. 9. Recreated shares and tried creating new shares. 10. Loaded shotgun full of buck shot.... Someone help, I rely on several drives on the other machine to work, i don't want to be pulling parts. Both machines are on WinXP SP1. One is an Intel P4 the other an AMD XP 2500+ Both NICs are Intel. Switch is 10/100 and cable modem is feeding both static IPs.

I get this when I try to access any of the shares on the opposite computer with fresh OS install. the only login that works is GUEST!!! none of the others work, even non passworded accounts.
-
I got the same result in Safe Mode with Networking. I did a fresh install onto another drive, windows updates, SP1 etc. and GOT THE SAME RESULT!!!!! Could my switch be causing this? It is a 10/100 switch, not a router. I've work on computers and networks for 6 years now and have never seen this problem

I scanned and found no viri. Simple sharing is enabled, i have accounts that match on both computers. Not using domains or active directory. I was using netbeui because the computers have static IPs that are not on the same range OR subnet and I couldn't get them to see each other with out it. NOthing was changed

I had a nice setup: AMD XP 3200+ MSI nForce2 with dual channel SB Live 5.1, MSI Capture Card, 1GB DDR 400 CL2, GeForce4 Ti 128MB. One day i got this deal in the email. Intel purchase program, Boxed P4 3.06C, Boxed Intel D856GRH dual channel, sata, motherboard and Windows XP Pro for $299! So i get the setup and upgrade my current box. At first I was very pleased with the performance. But now I am getting all sorts of weird anomalies, crashes, lags, program f^ck ups etc. This is with: A fresh install of XP, all the windows updates, most current bios, MScertified video, sound, and capture drivers...Most recent versions and service packs of the absolute latest programs out there! I have tested my memory, passed. I have tested my drives, video card, capture card and power supply...alll pass. I have installed XP several times on 3 different drives with 2 different video cards and NONE of the onboard devices enabled. Still same issues. I even put in a different CPU. The MB doesn't seem to show any issues but i swapped it anyway. I am tired...I played the upgrade games, the AMD is better than Intel game and now I am just tired of it.... This is my 3rd attempt at a good Intel Box.... So after using AMD for 8 years and Intel for 3 ...I can say that they BOTH suck! I am getting a MAC. Or can someone give me a reason why my 3rd experience with Intel is still a sour one... And talk me out of the MAC...

The deal was directly from INTEL. My machine seems to be working fine now, as long as i don't use anything. HAHA AHA AHAHA

Running a P4 3.06C with an Intel 865GRH Motherboard, 1GB DDR400MHz in dual channel mode and hyperthreading enabled. I notice when I try to capture video from WinDVR, UleadDVD Workshop, Movie Maker or Premiere Pro the app hangs almost immediately. I can edit video and everything else works fine on the computer, just can't capture video. I have even tried 3 different video capture drivers. I am using an MSI TV@Anywhere capture card. Here is the kicker: I disable hyperthreading and I can capture just fine in any of the apps. So is hyperthreading all it's crapped up to be? I have noticed a difference in Premiere Pro but not really anything else. Should I just leave it disabled? Or has anyone heard of better performance in the video realm with it disabled? I have heard that it hinders performance in that area because either thread can monopolize the cache and registers causing a pause or slow down.

I have already priced out a G5, not the dual, but with 1GB DDR and 2x250GB drives for about $4,300 it will take me a year but by then it will be around $2700. I mainly edit video. The rest I can simply do on a PC. I am just tired of trying to build a PC video editor that keeps giving me sh*t.

HA HAAH AHAH AHAH I knew someone would say that!!!!! It was a kick a$$ deal! My wife now has my old rig, she is giving me the evil eye like she knows what's going on, lol...

From what I understand you will need to reinstall the OS.
-
Yeah true. What's wierd is that it worked for 2 weeks with no problems, then yesterday it started up. I have not installed ANYTHING new before the problems came on...
-
I AM capturing analog, NOT DV, YET. I didn't have any problems on my AMD XP 2500+ machine with the same capture card, video card, sound card, memory AND drivers. Just seems that the Intel setup I have isn't happy with capturing video in HT mode...

I am using a GeForce4 Ti 128MB 4X AGP. I am using 53.03 Ref. Drivers.

Phoenix, AZ - We have just as many retirees as Florida. And NONE of them can drive to save their lives!!!! It is always hot as hell in the summer and just cold enough in the winter. Our Governors always suck or are corrupt. Our football team and basketball team suck a$$. You are allowed to carry a gun just about anywhere.. Crime is up, education and jobs are down. :x -
Yeah, I am not running SETI. THis is my brother's machine and the less on it the better. He is not a heavy computer geek like me, he doesn't even know what SETI is... He is a race car driver and like to use the computer for racing games when he is not actually on the track.

Yes I tried uninstalling and reinstalling nForce. No it is not connected to the internet. The only program installed is Norton Anti-Virus Corporate, Office XP, Adobe Photoshop, Max Payne, Dirt Track Racing, Serious Sam2 and Nascar. No scanner is attached and I am using all onboard devices now save the video card. File system is NTFS. It started locking up as I was finishing with it, defrag. Yet I can play on it for hours...
-
I will try a new cable then... Gotta try something. But would a faulty cable allow the computer to work fine for hours on end as long as someone was actually moving the mouse or joystick? Then lock up when it is not actually in use? Yeah it's late here too. :x

I disable a butt load of services, just the bare minimum is running. Neither of those are enabled or running. We thought about the sound card, so we took it out. It was a SB 128 PCI. With the onboard sound enabled or disabled it still locks up.

Logitech wheel mouse. No software installed. PS/2.

Yes all the settings say never. I only defragged once, it freezes just sitting there. You could play games for 10 hours and leave the computer for a minute at desktop and it will freeze.

I just got off of a 2 hour tour that should've taken 30 minutes! And dog gonnit could someone fix the Subject to ...to drive you nuts and not "do". LOL Here is the scenario: I had to deliver and install 3 new XP boxes to a office, on a network. Piece of friggin cake. Right? These 3 boxes replaced 2 W98 machines and 1 W2K machine. All the machines on the network get an IP via DHCP from an ActionTek DSL router. The router is uplinked to a 10/100 5 port hub and all the machines except 2 connect to the hub. The other 2 connect to the DSL router on 2 of its four 10/100 ports. Here WAS/IS the problem: None of the new XP boxes would get an ip address from the DSL router! The other machines receive 192.168.x.x series, not the XP boxes. I installed /NetBios-IPX and NetBeui and still couldn't see any other machine (also running same protocols). I put a 98 or 2K box in that cubicle and it worked fine!!!! :x Here is what I checked and KNOW: (1)The machines all were originally setup on a network, receiving the SAME series of IPs and WORKED. (2)The NICs all are set to DHCP and AUTOSensing media. I tried switching to 10 Full, 10 Half, 100 Full, 100 Half and Auto. (3)TCP/IP IS installed. (4)Qos is NOT installed. (5)ICS/Firewall is OFF (6)File Sharing is ON (7)User accounts match on all NT based machines (8)Simple File Sharing is ON (9)All users are logged in. (10)NetBios Helper is OFF What the h@ll would cause this!!!! How did I solve this problem? Well, as any good technician will do, process of elimination or Glock19. So I quickly cut a new cable, tested it, and ran it directly to the hub, bypassing the wall run and jack. Guess what! It still didn't work!!! I about screamed! So now what? I plugged the cable directly into one of the open ports on the DSL router. IT WORKED!!!! HOLY F@CKING SH^T I THOUGHT I WAS going insane! So I rerouted the 3 new machines to the DSL router and the others to the hub and all were happy. So what is the possible cause? I think the hub maybe too old and cannot or won't communicate with the NICs (nForce onboard 10/100). What do you think. Heres the kicker, I got more machines to install there, guess they'll be buying a new switch. I saw a few people with similar problems so this may help t-shoot!

I was going to take the time to list every way you can reach that same information, but as seen above, everyone else will eventually...
