I am running Windows2003 with BulletFTP Server. I can login into the FTP server through an actual client but NOT from I.E. !!!! I try the "Login-As" feature but it keeps rejecting me. Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening. My goal is to create an FTP server that I can provide links to from various websites. I want a person to just be able to click on a file link and have it start downloading from FTP.

Yeah it's enabled still nothing. Guess I will have to find another way to do it without DMZ. I don't want this machine totally exposed.

Go to Start, then RUN. Type DXDIAG and hit enter. Then hit the display tab, it will tell you there.

I need a list of Nvidia and ATI cards formattted from worst to best. What I mean specifically is chipsets. I.E. GeForce 2 MX Radeon 7000 GeForce 3 MX Radeon 8000 etc. etc. Also what is better GeForce 2 GTS 64MB DDR or an ATI Radeon 7000 64MB?

I use DVDs and an 80GIG removable drive and keep them in my firesafe. Sounds simplistic but if my machine ever gets stolen or I a huge surge hits and kills my drives, I'm OK.

Yes I had an MSDN account a year or so ago and the Advanced Server ISO was bootable for me.

Come on! I use McAfee 8.0. It doesn't use as much resources as NAV 2003 or Norton Internet Security 2003 Suite. I USED TO USE ONLY Symantec's anti-virus line-up. But earlier this year as the big worms and such hit I found that all of my clients machines that were hit were either running NAV or no anti-virus at all. The McAfee machines seemed to update more rapidly. Now that is just one case I know but I also started getting calls from clients saying that Norton 2003 and NIS 2003 was suddenly turning itself off and leaving their machines open to the world! I couldn't believe it so I installed in on 3 or 4 of machines I own or have access to. I had the same problem on a couple of those machines among other problems!!! I went to the knowledge bases and tried all the fixes and patches. Finally we ended up getting the $29.99 McAfee 8.0 boxes. No one has complained since then! As for system stability, yes McAfee had huge problems with that in the 90s. That was the reason I stayed away from it. But I have been using it since June and see no reason to go back to NAV. If I did go back it would be back to NAV Coporate Edition. It is what I still use on all of my servers.

Does anyone know if the nForce2 chipset has the PCI bus locked? I have the MSI nForce2 Delta-L and have the bus up around 205 for a 166 based chip. Seems to work ok, just want to know if I am frying my PCI devices.

That was the nForce3, I read that one. And yes it was on the front page of this site, lol...

If you have data on the partition then you will lose it. You will have to use something like partition magic.
-
It is highly unlikely unless you have all the individual tracks. It's like trying to take out Darth Vader from the finished star wars films....
-
All you need is a free partition that doesn't already have an OS on it. You cannot install WinXP in the same partition as Win2K, it will have very bad results. Once you have found an open partition simply stick the XP disc in your drive while in Windows 2K. It will then ask you if you would like to do an upgrade or clean install. Select clean install. Then when the blue setup (DOS mode) screen appears make sure you tell it to install in the open partition and not the one 2K is on. If you wish to get rid of 2K, edit the boot.ini, tell it to only go to XP OS. Then you can simply delete the folders on the 2K partition like Winnt, program files, Documents and Settings, etc. Make sure you have backed up your data first.

Yeah for gaming I would go P4 or XP+ all the way. Luckily I just ordered a P4 3.2 800MHz Bus and a new board. She will get my 2500+ (OCed to 2.1GHz 400MHz BUS) and nForce2 MB. I think she will be happy. Her graphix card isn't much, old GeForce2 GTS 64MB DDR. My brother will get the 1.8 celly in place of his K6-2 400, i think he will be happy too.

For an unbiased opinion: Go with the P4. Celerons are for email, web browsing, simple stuff etc. You never see actual workstations with celerons, why, because P4s (as mentioned) running at lower speeds get the job done quicker. As for NEVER EVER getting a celeron, I would have to disagree. A celeron IS a lower end P4. I have one in my wife's machine, Celeron 1.8Ghz S478. I have yet to have a problem and she games as well, not just sissy games, we're talking 1942, UT, MOHAA etc. Burns CDs, scans pictures, does a little photo editing yada yada. At the time we built her machine it was the best priced chip for the money and speed for what we could afford. Even a P4 1.4 S478 at the time was too expensive and still is at $120 on pricewatch! The celeron 2.4 is $67. Regardless of that price quote:::: P4 is a V6 engine and the Celeron is a 4 Cylinder if you want to look at in car terms. XEON, EE, and AMD64bits are V8 big blocks. LOL

I don't know that drives me nuts too. I just renamed the file and now it don't start. :x

I have seen that freezing problem on a couple boards. It usually ends up being USB! Try disabling USB and see if that helps... Also for sh^ts and giggles try pulling ALL of your cards except the video (of course). If the freezing stops, it maybe a hardware driver or IRQ fault.

You are ALWAYS limited by the slowest component whether it be software or hardware. You could have 64bit chip, and OS, and the fastest ram, BUT that hard disk my hinder you are that hardware driver may slow you a bit. 64Bit IS faster but only when everything else is running relative. At the same clock speed the 64Bit AMD chip IS faster than its Athlon XP counterpart. The 64Bit AMD FX processes more efficiently, has more transistors yada yada. Read the reviews...

I don't how it is the app. It behaves the same in both OSes, the memory returned to the system after exiting the program is what was worse in 2K. Nothing changed but the OS. My reference to DOS was that a lot of DOS apps and games will not run in XP without a lot of tweaking. 2000 seems to have less of a problem.
-
After a year of testing the 2 configurations on my rig, XP seemed to not leak memory AS BAD as 2000 did when using Adobe Premiere and loading about 10GB worth of video into the project. Whenever I would close Premiere for a few minutes to do something else, a lot of memory would remain in use. In XP this problem wasn't AS BAD. Also a couple pieces of my video editing collection REQUIRE XP, how do you like that sh*t huh!

Being a big Win2K fan I have to say this: <Windows 2K> Has less fluff/bloatware Doesn't require activation Boots a tad slower Is relatively as fast as XP SP1 Still has DOS support Is getting old (almost 5 years now) <WindowsXP> Has lots o' bloatware Requires activation from the OS nazis Boots quick as hell Is relatively as fast as 2K SP4 Has NO DOS support Uses more memory than 2K Is more plug n' play worthy MS's Flagship OS until 2006!!!! If you got a GB of DDR and at least a 1.5GHz CPU i would say f*ck it and got with XP. If you value your resources like water then stick with 2K for another year, then switch. Or do what I do. I use 2K for everyday office sh*t, email, photo editing, CD/DVD burning, creating music, gaming, etc. And I dual boot XP for video editing and some gaming Also if you are like me you upgrade your computer at least twice a year, this can be a pain with MS's product activation. Having 2K is nice in that respect. BOTH OSES ARE GREAT!!!! EITHER IS STABLE AND RELIABLE, A FAR STEP FROM THE OLD DAYS - CHOICE BEING Windows 98 or 2000!!! YUCK 9.x kernel ewwwwwwwwwww

Poor performance: Athlon XP 2000+ On Windows 2000 Pro SP4!
CyberGenX replied to shassouneh's topic in Hardware
The fact that you have 51 processes running above doesn't help your performance any! Try clearing your Startup folder and your registry startup (Run) keys. Also turn OFF any unneeded services. If you don't have this problem after clearing all your startup items then it is a rouge app. -
You need the cable modem to decode the signal from coax cable to something your computer can understand. The modem then has output(s) on it to plug into your computer via ethernet (network interface) or via USB. If you have a cable modem that only has a RJ45/ethernet connection you must use a NIC or network interface card. If your cable modem only has USB then you must have a USB cable to plug into your computer and the modem has the NIC internally. A regular modem only works on phone lines for dial up internet and faxing. A NIC is used for networking and broadband internet connections. I never trusted USB for broadband.... don't know why.

Quote: dont forget to turn up the tcp window size now that you have such a fast connection. 0xfaf0 works nicely. Where would I find this, I searched the registry for tcpwindowsize and tcp window size but nothing came up.
