Is it worth converting W2003 Server for Workstation use?
CyberGenX replied to pmistry's topic in Slack Space
Quote: If you aren't using a pirated copy of it, then the cost alone should be a no go. Then again, if you stole it off Kazaa why not. Some of us get their software free and legit from MS themselves. I have a copy of 2003 Server with 10 Clients licenses just for going to MS SBS 2003 training, also free. I have been doing this since Windows 98. and Office 97. BUT even if you get it free, what the heck is the point in running a server OS as a client? I don't really see how 2003 runs any faster, load times are almost identical between XP and 2003 on most apps and games. 2003 just keeps more DLLs readily available, IT"S A SERVER OS>! -
I live in Phoenix, AZ and in case any of you have been on the moon in the last month or two we have had a gas crisis, or so they (the state gov.) say. Since then we have been paying sick amounts of money to fill our tanks. I am just curious what you pay for gas... Currently the avg. price per gallon here in PHX is about $2.15 and was as high as $4.00 in some places.

I have recently sold 49% my computer company to a group of investors wanting to expand on my model. I have been put in charge of naming this "new" computer company. I have come up with about 60 or so names but I wouldn't mind getting some fresh ideas. So here is the deal; Contest is for $25 (wish it could be more). Also a free copy of our software "Tech Launcher", for life! Every version until we stop making them. Rules: No names that are already taken, locally or nationally. No names that are religion based. Must be related to the IT industry. No super long names. Help: We service small business computers, build and maintain networks, and build custom computers. A few names I have come up with: IT MASTERS, ELITE PC, PC PROS, PRACTICAL COMPUTER SOLUTIONS. Best name wins the $25 and lifetime versions of Tech Launcher. If we actually use the name I will throw in some other goodies too (worth about $50). Top 5 names will get a free copy of Tech Launcher as well. Money paid in cash. Contest ends November 1st. Well...get to it! Thanks in advance.

Elite Persons and Small Business Solutions, what ever the customer wants. VPNs, custom built servers, network builds, basic repairs, wierd stuff sometimes like a guy who wanted to see what was going on at his house from the office, though no one was ever home and he already had a great security service. etc.

Creat an account on both machines, call it Bob (as an example). Make sure the passwords match and you should then be able to share files back and forth, as long as the file you are trying to reach is a "shared" file.

Darn, in Outlook Express you simply hold down CTRL and click, I just tried it in Outlook and that didn't seem to work. I will keep an eye out for you. -

It is all the NT based machines. There are 6 and one 98 machine that doesn't connect to the server. It seems quite random, one week it happens on a tuesday, the next week it happens on a monday, then further into the month a thursday. I just got this client and this problem is making me look really bad... I have set the connection time on the semi-server to something like 10,000 minutes of idle time before dropping a connection. I have hard set all the IPs, I have set windows to NOT standby or power the net card down, or even itself, I have checked the Event Log for anything out of the ordinary. I thought it may be the 10/100 switch, but why would it still give all the computers internet if it was malfuntioning? This is probably the biggest pain in the ass i have had so far. Nothing like getting a call, "It's doing it again!" "When can we fix this issue?" I am wondering the same thing! LOL -

I need to buy a new video camera as my wife killed our current one. I want to go digital using MiniDV format. It has to have at least 500 lines of resolution, image stablization, firewire, LCD display and be under $600. I was thinking of the Canon ZR65MC. Anyone know of what the best camera is around this pricerange for resolution and features?

Remove AVI files preview on win 2000
CyberGenX replied to renaudtwingo's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Tools > Folder Options > On the General Tab under Web View click "use classic" This is the only way I remember that turns off the preview pane on the left. You can preview pictures by telling that folder to Thumbnail items in the Views panel. -
You cannot change PCI device IRQs in 2K or XP. You will have to move the NIC to another slot or try to set assignments in the bios if that option is available.

That is a snappy little rally car I must say!!! I am always hesitant when it comes to rebates. I buy a lot of computer parts and so far now I have not gotten one rebate check over a 2 year period and 14 rebate requests. These are different items, manufacturers, stores and distributors. Seems like unless it is an instant rebate, I NEVER GET IT>! Most rebate companies are scams and end up keeping the money. Or the very day the rebate expires they stop processing ALL rebates, including ones that were due to go out to the consumer. NewEgg.com has great prices, instant rebates and ship very quickly. I think you can find a deal similar or better on their site. -

Go to Start and then Run. Paste the line below in and click OK. You should then have Appcompat enabled. regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll -
So far on over a hundred machines i have verified this. To prove it I purposely infected a computer that only connects to the internet for Live update and pcAnywhere. Infected with the sobig and nachi viruses I ran live update. Then I ran a scan of the whole machine and came up clean. I then applied the update from the link below and scanned again, what do you know IT FOUND THE VIRI!!!! So for a few days now I have been cleaning viruses off of computers that initially said were clean! http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html I would estimate that LIve update is about 3-5 days behind the manual download defs!!! It says as of 3 days ago...8-20-03 after up[censored] via live update and manual is 8-29-03 !!!! This is not a good thing. I have seen this on NAV 2001 - 2003 Pro and on Corporate Edition 7.5 -7.6 BE AWARE guys and gals.
-
It used to be that live update was more so in sync with the latest defs. F**king slackers!!!
