I thought that was only if DHCP does not exist on the network?

What are some of your feelings on AMD's new 64Bit Line up, and their soon to be release 64bit Desktop lineup. My Op. is the AMD has made a nice price margin for 64bit solutions and they also offer backward 32bit compatibility. Intel's 64bit/32bit(software emulation) seems WAY to freekin pricey! Windows XP 64 with the AMD 64/32bit chips would kick some serious a$$.

Darn machines won't stay connected!!!
CyberGenX replied to CyberGenX's topic in Everything New Technology
I don't know will have to look. But they never had a problem with the older w2k server on the same network! -
OH H3LL yes on the Amptron, that and PC$hjts mobos are virtually identical. And if you are going to have all that onboard stuff you want a strong mobo to push it! i.e. strong mb manu. and chipset.

Lil' iffy on that motherboard. I have never really seen to many "good" PCchips motherboards, especially AMD platform.

I you are a casual video maker/editor like me then an AMD rig is great for the money. If you want your video rendered a little quicker then spend the extra $$$$ for any rig with RAID striping and loads of memory. My setup runs Adobe Premiere just great and i didn't have to shell out all the cash for Xeon crap. Waitin for the Athlon 64 desktop to be affordable. MSI nForce 2 Delta MB GeForce4 Ti 128MB 6Layer PCB Dual Header SATA RAID stripe mode with 2 X 80GIG SATA 150 7200RPM 8MB Cache drives 1 X 60GIG IDE ATA 133 7200RPM Drive for audio, titles, misc. 1GB of HyperX Matched DDR Dual Channel 400MHz 2500+ OCed to 2.166MHz 4XDVD +RW Firewire

I am setting up a Windows 2000 Server on a mixed network. OSes include Windows 98, SE, ME and Windows XP Pro. The server has a Public Static IP and the rest of the machines get private (192.168.0.x series) DHCP from a DSL router. Here is my problem... None of the XP machines will communicate with the 2000 Server. All the other machines that are NOT XP see the server just fine. WTF!!! I tried installing NetBEUI, and NetBIOS on the server and XP workstations, still no dice. WTF am I doing wrong, this is driving me crazy!!! :x

I built a computer recently and had to make do with a TNT2 32MB PCI video card instead of AGP. Drivers Det. 44.03 My problem is when I try to shut the computer down I get a stop error saying that the problem file is nv_agp.SYS. I have removed this file and rebooted. I still get the same stop error and it is referring to the same file that now is not even on the computer. What do I do to get this issue resolved?

What is the distance between the two nics?

How many processes do you have running?
CyberGenX replied to Lotus's topic in Everything New Technology
That is at startup, with no windows/apps open off of a fresh boot. I am actually at 15 right now because i had to enable ICS and one other service for VPN connection. I turn off any driver helpers or anything that loads in the system tray on startup. I also turn off a load of services i know i don't need. -

I have identical accounts on the NT Server and the XP machines. I have now all the machines on the same IP series and subnet, except the server. I still cannot connect to the server with the XP machines, the 98 and ME machines connect to it fine! I have uninstalled the QOS and disabled firewire, still no connection. This is now driving me nucking futs!!!

2000 with DHCP servers. Im confused
CyberGenX replied to rossco's topic in Everything New Technology
Are you using Cable or DSL? Does your wireless router also have wired ports? ICS is one way to go, put a second nic in your "server" If your wireless router is just wireless and not also wired you may want to just go purchase a wired router. If you are using DSL some DSL modems like Cisco and ActionTek have built in DHCP. Statically setting your IPs is another way to go to get internet and LAN connection. -
Yes I need the server to be public and static it is doing VPN, FTP, HTTP and a few other classified services. I am going to see if I can get the DSL router to give 192.168.0.x series with the subnet 255.255.255.0 instead of 255.255.255.248 that it is currently giving out. And then just give the server NIC a secondary private IP in the same series and subnet.
-
Yes, the XP machines can see other machines and print servers. They also get internet just fine. The DSL router gives them a 192.168.0.x series and a 255.255.255.248 Subnet. How do the machines see the server on TCP/IP if the server is on a public address and the workstations are on private, and different subnets. Only way I can think of is the "Alternate IP Configuration" is that right. Otherwise you must use some other proto.
-
Are the computers on a DSL or Cable connection or do they all have modems and connect that way, or do they have internet at all? One thing you might try is to set all the computers statically. Use IPs between 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254 and 255.255.255.0 for subnet, each computer with a different IP. With all the computers set to this series, they should see each other everytime and quickly. You also may want to consider installing the NetBEUI protocol, it is swift and makes a good compliment to some buggy TCP setups.

No my machines are reporting 1000Mbps, and they are all win 2000. THanks I guess we will be getting CAT6 then.
-
I have 5 addresses and they all get spammed!

Can you upgrade from Win2K pro to Advanced Server?
CyberGenX replied to Draftsman's topic in Software
I don't think you can. -
Create a folder on the root drive and copy over all the windows cabs. Use boot disk and install from DOS.

Who's got the money to shell out for 2003 Server only to run it as a workstation at home!!!??? Windows 2000 SP4 is my pick. Never had one problem with it. I ran XP for 2 years and granted it boots faster (yippee) it was a fuster cluck of problems.
