I've found a glitch or two with every game I've tried so far on Win2k.....so I just made a Win98/Win2k dual boot and use 98 for all my games! I give up on games in 2000! And if it isn't the game, it something like the video is messed up, or my controller doesn't work! Or Diablo2...it just won't start! Just hangs when I try to start it!
-
I've heard upgrading 98 to Win2k is not good! Too many 98 drivers and what-not left on system! Best to clean install! I had that exact problem....but it was with Release Canidate 2!! And I think I upgraded from NT4.0. I never fixed it! When I got the full version, clean install...I never had the problem. Sorry...guess this isn't too helpfull???

If you REALLY now what you are doing, you could Backup the registry doing an Export....and then simply delete the line in the registry causing the error. Assuiming you know what the line is, and if the Registry already says the value is invalid...you might as well get rid of it...right?? Hopefully you have your Repair disks...in case this fails and you can't get into windows....even in safe mode. This is just an idea....don't want to see anyone totally mess up their computer on my account.....but it would be a quick fix if it works!

I think old versions of McAfee can cause the computer to reboot like you describe! If you have it, either uninstall it or go to their website to see what the Minumum Version is for Win2000....I think it's 5 or higher. But I may be wrong. If you don't have McAfee..then I'm all outta ideas!

Nope, not really! Unless you edit the "run" entry in the Registry. Believe me, you are much better off using the utility! I do, it works great!

Again 3.5c does not work on Windows 2000!! The Media Player 7 plugin for Adaptec can disable all your CD products, making them show up in Device manager with an Exclamation mark on each. Removing the Adaptec Plug in will fix this. Not going to matter with 3.5c....you have to have 4.02 Sorry!
-
Try this utility...works like Startup tab in MSCONFIG... www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml It's case sensitive it seems! So type that in exactly!
-
As far as I know.... Easy CD Creator 3.5c does not work with Windows 2000 and there is no update that will help. You need to have Easy CD Creator 4.02 preferrablly version 4.02d. Just remove Media Player 7 plugin for Adaptec. (if you have media player.) And make sure if you have McAfee..that it is a 5.x version. Any less and you will have many problems!

help..win2k problem...changing drive letters etc...
KJ1999 replied to celeron550's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Yes...it's in "Manage Computer"....the other way is to have whichever drive you want to have the first drive letter the Master. The master is always the first letter..the slave is the next letter. (I am pretty sure...or maybe it's the opposite?? However you have it now...it's the reverse!) -
Sorry....that drive isn't compatible with Win2000. There are no drivers. It's OOOOLLLLLLDDDDDDD!!! You're better just picking up a new one. They're so cheap now.

Thanks.... I don't have, or want 4GB...that would just be plain silly! How'd need that! The reason I ask...is someone is asking me. I know for a fact that NT 4.0 Server is 4GB....but I am wondering if Workstation is the same, or less?? That's all! Thanks though!!
-
Hey! Anyone know the maximum amount of RAM you can have on NT 4.0 Workstation?? I know 4.0 Server is 4GB.....is Workstation the same, or less as I would think???? Thanks, KJ1999

I actually got rid of it! Doing thewinmgmt /clearadap That did it it seems. Even though that fix is supposed to be for BETA's. I have full retail Advanced Server with a clean install....but it worked.... Thanks!
