Unless you are a developer, you're really not going to see much (if any) difference in DirectX 9. Most of the changes are to fix development problems that exist in DirectX 8 and provide easier ways for developers to manipulate certain things.

This is because your Explorer shell has restarted itself and the affected programs didn't. They are still running, but the icon didn't get reloaded. In Administrative Tools, go to Services. Hunt down the Service for the program that is having problems and restart it. The icon should pop back into the system tray.

It may be a DirectX problem. What version of DirectX are you running? What kind of graphics card and drivers? You may want to try lowering the hardware sound acceleration to see if that fixes it.

I'm not sure I see the difference between receiving help from Microsoft and receiving help from those posting here. I haven't run into the issue you're having either. HAve you tried loading an existing project to see what happens? -
It could be a program that hasn't removed itself from memory. WordPerfect and Corel Draw do this quite a bit. It may be a corrupt print driver. Also, something may have installed another print service that is conflicting. Some versions of Novell Client cause this.
-
It may be a refresh prolem. Do you have a lot of icons on your desktop, or an extremely large graphic file for the background? Try booting into Safe Mode to see if the problem persists.

Like many games, Black and White must be run in an account with administrator rights.

rgodart, what programs are you running that work better in a Power User account than an Admin account?

ATI has released version 7.6 of the Multimedia Center and ver 3.00.120 beta of Hydravision. they can be found here: http://www.ati.com/support/products/pc/r...p;cmdNext=GO%21
-
You both fail!! Go see the Principal right this instant!!
-
Oh well. I haven't tried 7.6 yet. But I rarely use the MMC anyway. The latest drivers are great, though. They even fixed a flicker probem I had in my second monitor.

ATI has really shaped up this year. In fact, since they released their first updated XP driver, they've averaged at least one new release each month. They've stuck with what they promised, so far. And there has been a noticable difference with each release.

For the Intel Chipset users out there...

Quick warning. I've had a tremendous stream of bad luck when using Sysprep on a machine with this installed on it. In one case, it caused Windows 2000 to detect the IDE controllers twice, causing a conflict. While the machine worked, it performed a bit slower. In all other instances, it created an unrecoverable INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DRIVE error during the first boot-up after the setup wizard ran. So, if you plan on cloning machines while using this, I suggest installing it after you've cloned the machine. -
Sorry, Harry, but I use both Win2k and XP. I prefer XP overall. Especially in a home environment. It also beats Win2k on a laptop. If it weren't for things like MovieMaker, which I'd have to uninstall on from all of the workstations, I'd prefer it a work, as well.

Windows XP + Visual Studio.NET = Performance trouble???
OLEerror replied to shassouneh's topic in Software
I haven't seen a problem with it, either. It is a fairly hefty install though. How much room do you currently have on your system partition? Your pagefile may be experiencing growing pains. -
Installing it in Safe Mode may work.
