    Let's talk about FAT64?

It's possible to create FAT64, but I doubt the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages. A new 64-but filesystem is coming, though. I don't know if it will be released with Longhorn or Blackcombe. I'm betting Blackcombe.

    XP = eXPerience, NT = ?

Depends on who you ask and when you ask it. Microsoft has stated it stands for "New Technology." Some think it actually stands for "Intel". Still others think they just took OS (as in OS/2) and incremented the letters by one. The most common response is "New Troubles."

Please help with this silly XP problem

Do you receive this error when you access the User Accounts through the Control Panel? If so, you can either run a repair by booting from the XP CD or extract it from the .CAB file on the CD.

    Mouse Lag in XP

Kingtrey, depending on your motherboard, plugging your Intellimouse into the p/s2 port may speed it up. Also, check to see if your BIOS supports handling the USB mouse itself. If so, turn this feature on. This solved a lot of mouse problems on an ABIT motherboard I was configuring.

    Mouse Lag in XP

What kind of mouse are you using? USB? P/S2? What brand? The biggest complaint I've seen has been with the Logitech iFeel Mouse.

    More than 2 monitors

Supposedly, dual AGP is on the horizon. Intel has stated that they are working on a chipset that supports it. I'm sure VIA and SIS are, as well.
  7. Do you have it set to full screen? Press the F11 key.

    What keyboard do you use?

I'm using a Microsoft Internet and Internet Pro keyboard on my systems. I don't ever use the extra buttons (web, e-mail, etc.) but they have a really good feel. And I like having the extra USB ports on the Internet Pro.

Probleme during log with Windows XP (very slow)

Sounds like a DNS problem. Make sure your DNS server is running correctly and that the workstations are receiving the correct information from DHCP.

    More than 2 monitors

Depending on the video cards you are using, it should work. Windows 2000 and XP support up to 10 monitors. I'm about to go dual monitor myself. Make sure you've installed both PCI cards before installing the AGP card.

It's listed on the box that a DVD decoder is required. I believe it is with the system requirements list.

    disabeling ACPI?

Alvarez, ACPI was not developed by Microsoft. It is a standard that they adopted. It was created to resolve the problem of having a very limited number of IRQ addresses available. ACPI is not some conspiracy meant to take control of your computer and kill your dog. As long as hardware manufacturers design their products correctly (Creative, are you listening?) ACPI works very well.

    Netscape sues Microsoft

The thing that all of the Netscape proponents seem to have forgotten is that Netscape's market share was not drastically affected until they started charging $80 for their cruddy browser.

    What is compatabilty mode exacly?

Compatibility Mode basically lies to the program you use it on. It intercepts calls to certain APIs and Registry entries and returns and answer that satisfies the query. It's actually not a completely new tool. Windows 95 has a partial implementation that allows you to fool the program into thinking (in some cases) your extended memory is base RAM. The Compatibility Mode in 2000/XP just builds upon that.

XP Pauses for 2 secs about every 30 secs

Try plugging your hard drives into you primary IDE channel to see if the same problems occur. You didn't list a network adapter in your specs. From the sound of it, I'd say there is a chance it is either a protocol of NIC problem.

Microsoft digital signature: how important is it?

The digital signature just means that it has been tested by Microsoft and has been shown to work correctly. It you trust the hardware manufacturer to release good drivers then install it. Many drivers never get signed as they do not contain vital updates and it is deemed "not worth it." Is there a reason that you are upgrading the driver? It it doesn't offer anything beneficial, and your current driver is working, I'd leave it be.
  18. I'm not impressed with Norton Utilities under either Windows 2000 or XP. WinDoctor often misreports things. My advice is to only run WinDoctor when you are having a serious problem and it is the last resort. Speed Disk is still a great utility. In fact, it's the only part of NU that I use.

    RIO Riot

OK, is this the worst idea they could come up with, or what? The idea of using Flash RAM in an audio player is that it is solid state. That means that, since there are no moving parts, getting bumped or moved will not cause the music to skip. They are also much more durable. Why would you want to put a hard drive in one? Not only does it make the player larger, but you've gotten rid of half of the reason of getting an audio player. I don't care how much anti-skip buffer you stick on it, it's going to skip. And it's also a bad idea to bounce a hard drive around. This thing is going to die the third time you go jogging with it. Rio must be trying to win the "Most Asinine Product of the Year" award.
  20. One of my biggest gripes about Windows servers: Why in the hell did Microsoft include games and OpenGL screensavers in a server environment? It's hard to believe the number of times someone has whined to me that their Windows 2000 Adv Server was running slow and it turns out they were running the 3D Pipes screensaver on it. There is absolutely no reason for the average server to have a media player on it, as well. Or Active Desktop. Heck, I'd prefer it to have a stripped down version of Internet Explorer. But that's just me.

List the problems you have had with XP :) :)

Sorry, it doesn't exist under Home. Home Edition does not support Groups and the only rights levels that can be assigned to Users are Administrator and Limited. From what I have seen, Limited is basically Power User. It may be a bit more restrictive, but I haven't seen a difference.

    Hot Date

Did you install the program under the Administrator account? If so, it may be as simple as changing a Registry entry to that it point to Current User instead of Administrator.

    Lock work station issue

Nope. You can only shortcut to the screensaver. In NT 4, press CTRL-ALT-Delete and click Lock Workstation. That's the shortest method available.

    ACPI problems

Device drivers can also cause this problem, occasionally. Did you install any drivers that are not XP certified? And did this problem occur right after you installed XP, or is it something that popped up after a while?

List the problems you have had with XP :) :)

three, I'm not saying all VIA solutions cause problems under Windows XP. But many of them are prone to them. The latest 4-in-1s seem to resolve the problems for most of their chipsets. The majority of the problems I've seen revolve around VIA and Nvidia, though. Once their XP drivers mature, I'm sure these issues will be dealt with. The main reason that these two companies have had such compatibility issues with XP is there resistance in working with Microsoft. Even after Nvidia won the Xbox contract, they've still decided to only accept Microsoft's assistance peripherally. And VIA pretty much refuses to work with anyone. While companies such as ATI and Intel have had a good deal of success with XP because of their working relationship with Microsoft. Heck, even AOL has been working very closely with Microsoft to resolve issues.
