Yep, that ought to do it. It may require you to reboot twice as it reconfigures since it will be removing the ACPI support.

Quote: You can have a legit copy and need a crack. I for one am not going to pay for several copies because I have multiple puters. Then for all but one computer you won't have a "legit copy", now will you?

First, can you ping the computers from each other? Also, have you set up share rights on the hard drives for each of the computers?

Yeah, the GeForce 2 is a faster card. But its 2D support isn't very good. That is why nearly everyone is leading SnapperOne away from it. He has more need of good 2D support. He has also stated it will be running in W2k.

Nothing but 32-bit. That is one of the Radeon's strengths. It is actually a bit weak on the 16-bit side.

Intel has released Windows 2000 drivers. You can get them here. It also explains what is not available for 2000.

Under device Manager, see if your SCSI card is now sharing an IRQ with another device. This is one of the great strengths of ACPI, but it can also cause headaches with certain hardware. If it is sharing an IRQ, try moving the other device to a different PCI slot. This will often cause it to be assigned a different IRQ. And do you have any other drives chained with your CD-ROM. You may want to try disconnecting them to see if the CD-ROM is detected correctly. That may help to narrow down the problem.

Well, Microsoft has stated they are working on an easy approach to installing the needed hotfixes that have been released since SP6a. They are correct about there not being many. And those that are out there really don't warrant another SP. Also, the SP3 bug list doesn't bother me. They were working on SP1 before Windows 2000 was even released to the public. Right now, SP2 is in Beta. So there won't be anything added to it other than correctly bug fixes that are already incorporated into it.

ATI's current drivers are actually really good. I'm getting scores of 3015 - 3025 on 3Dmark2001 without turning off any features or unloading software (anti-virus, firewall, etc.) And the performance in games like Black & White is excellent. Also, the 7.1 version of the DVD player is out. You can download it from ATI.

If Windows detects an ACPI enabled computer it automatically utilizes its functionality. The reason you had to reinstall your SCSI drivers is because Windows probably decided to change its IRQ to one shared with another device.
-
Is it not detected at all under Device Manager? Check to see if there is a listing for it in Other Devices. If you see it in Device Manager, delete it and reboot, Windows should find it. Otherwise, run Add/Remove Hardware and see if it detects it.

Whistler is the next Windows OS being released by Microsoft. Its release title is Windows XP. It will also come in several different versions like Windows 2000. These will include: Personal, Professional, and the various Server versions.

In my experience, turning on ACPI with Windows 98 already installed doesn't cause a problem. It will detect the new motherboard settings and you will need to reboot. That is about it. Windows 2000 has a fit about it, though.

Sapien, what issues does the Radeon have in Windows 2000? And the reason for suggesting a Radeon over a Geforce2 is due to its superior 2D support. NVidia has always had a problem with their 2D being blurry.

Ad-Aware helps get rid of those unwanted souls. And it's a free download. -
If you can find a Voodoo 3 for an extremely low price, it might not be a bad choice. The problems with it are: 1.) 3Dfx is no more. 2.) If you want support for future games or graphics programs, you'll probably want one with more memory. Many newer games are recommending 16 meg cards which is what the Voodoo 3 has. You may want to spend a little more and get a card with at least 32 meg. 3.) Finding one has become a bit difficult. Most of the retailers have been unloading their 3Dfx products at deeply cut prices. So they've gone fast.

Whistler does not natively support IPX. Microsoft pulled it out along with several other older protocols. It may be your CD-ROM drive that is the problem, or lack of drivers. I've seen this in Windows 2000 with older drives.

1.) First, download the 1.04 drivers. 2.) Uninstall existing video card drivers. 3.) Turn off the computer. 4.) Disconnect the monitor fromthe existing video card. 5.) Open the case. 6.) Remove the existing video card. 7.) Install the Voodoo 3. 8.) Close the case. 9.) Connect monitor to Voodoo 3. 10.) Start computer. 11.) Run the driver download file. 12.) Reboot when prompted. Well, you did say step-by-step.

I'd suggest ZoneAlarm for blocking mockers and taunters. *I'm gonna run this into the ground. Just wait and see. * -
ATI has had much better driver support for the Radeon than for previous products. I'm running the newest beta drivers and have had no issues. I don't have anything that takes advantage of DirectX 8 yet, but it runs Black & White (which uses DirectX 7)exceptionally well. I also get fairly high 3Dmark scores without any tweaking or turning off apps and processes.

Upgrading to Brain Frank SP1 will correct a lot of your speed issues. And try defragging your hard drive. -
I haven't had any problems with the ATI Radeon. You'll need to download the latest drivers in order to take advantage of DirectX 8. It is a very solid card. And the 2D support is much better than the NVidia cards. The 3D support is comparable.

I think the "Whiny Complaint" problem is caused by a corrupt .dll in Windows ME. Are you running a VIA chipset? If so, upgrade to the newest 4-in-1 and see if that fixes it. -

HOW HARD IS IT TO LIST THE DAMN SPECS?!!!!! </font> OK, I think I see where the problem might be. What OS are you running, maybe we can fix it.
