I am currently running Win2K at home and it is ROCK SOLID. I see other posts where people have all kinds of problems and it makes me proud of the system I built. Now the downside.
The only thing I do at home on the computer is play games so I decided for compatibility purposes to just load Win98SE back on the puter and game on. So I format and do a fresh load of Win98SE then I continue to load drivers for my GeForce 2 GTS, this is when the problems start. I cannot get the resolution/color above 640x480/16 colors. Every time I try, it restarts and won’t continue to load or comes up and tells me that it is not compatible.
I have visited the GeForce FAQ and the only help there is they say to enable an IRQ assignment to the GeForce, which I have always done, make sure the monitor is correct (it is) and to wipe out any previous drivers, since it is a fresh install the default VGA pci card is already listed, should not cause a problem.
Anyone have any advice? I have since reloaded Win2K and everything once again is flawless, just can’t play all my games. This cracks me up though, Win2k is suppose to be the finicky OS not Win98SE!
I use to run Win98SE when I was using a TNT2 Ultra Video card and had no problems, since getting the GeForce 2 I have only used Win2K, I never thought I would go back but here we are.
Here is my system, if you were curious.
