Can't ftp to my pc from the net (after solving dynamic ip obstacle)
chermesh posted a topic in Networking
Hi, My pc (winxp) is connected via dsl to the net. My isp provides me with a dynamic ip. I would like to access this system from the net. I've opened an account on www.dyndns.org, installed a Bali client and an ftp server (u-serv). I tried to ftp from my pc via my dyndns account to my pc and a successful connection has been achieved. Still, when I tried the same ftp configuration from another pc, my login is rejected. What's wrong? Are there any permission I may have missed (sharing?)? anything else? How can I gain ftp privileges to my own pc? Ran -
Hi, I'm running a dual-boot system, NT4 and Win2K. My win2k system was unstable (COM2 disappeared, exclamation marks in control panel) and as a result I lost both my standard modem and my ISDN adapter connectivity. This is the case for my two OSs. As far as the standard modem is concerned, when I run diagnosis, the response is ok, all characteristics of the modem a recorded as expected. Still, when I try dialing, a busy port announcement pops up. The line is clear, but the call fails to pass through. As far as the ISDN connection, the situation is more complicated. On the win2k system, when I open the ISDN Monitor, and try to check my NDISWAN lines, I see there two line specified as "Not Started". On the WinNT platform, at the end of the adapter installation process, I'm asked to reboot. When I check RAS after rebooting, I get a message informing me that the ISDN1 and the ISDN2 ports are no longer installed on my system. Does my problem sound as a hardware problem? If so, how can I locate its source? Or, is it a configuration problem? If so, what should I do? Or else ... Spuddeh, Thanks for your prompt reply. Is there a way I can check my com ports prior to getting into further expenses? Ran -

Hi, The closest I find is the file ADVPACK.DL_. Doesn't look like the file you refer to? I have a copy of the CD on my pc. May it be that this section wasn't copied? (My university has a contract with MS and I can get the CD almost for free. If I need it, I can easily get it.). Ran -

Hi Jim, I checked the Taskbar & Task Menu. Yes, you're right, the "Display administrative tools" wasn't check. No, I checked it, but the tools didn't show up in the Administrative Tools (Control Panel). Is there anything else I can do? Ran -

Hi, I'm running an NT workstation (ver. 4, SP 6a). The station is connected to an NT server. I would like to access my workstation using a dialup service. Each of my drives has a default name (C$, d$ and E$). These have been shared for administive purposes and their ermissions can't be set (I get this message when i try to change them). I've defined an alternative set of share names DriveC, DriveD, and DriveE), which include share permissions. For some reason I face the following problems: 1. When I try to locate my workstation from an NT Workstation, the machine isn't seen in my network neighborhood. The Start=>Find=>Computers traces the workstation, but fails to identify its location (I can still access it by hitting the icon). For a win95 computer, the situation is even more bizzare. When I locate the workstation after running a search, all I get is a prespecified drive (The C$ drive, which is not open for sharing), and a request for a password. My questions are as follows: 1. What is it that prevents to disclosure of the location of my workstation while accessing from another NT 2. How do I make my sharing drive definitions (DriveC, DriveD, etc.) available for a win95 system?
