isochar replied to isochar's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Maybe I should've specified a gig or more RAM in the title... -

I already had that registry entry altered by TweakXP, and my figure still stands at only 1/4 of the RAM full. -
Forcing XP to fill RAM before using Swap File?
isochar replied to isochar's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I'd prefer that Windows manage the swap file, BUT first use all the gig of RAM that I have available to it. (Show that I have about 750megs free, and a I have a few gig page file) -

XP freezes in boot, but goes in safemode, no apparent reason
isochar replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Hardware
Quote: You don't have anything better to do that to point out my spelling errors? I was hoping this post might be of some assistance. Does anyone have any serious help? Nope, I have nothing better to do. You answered your own question with your first post: Quote: It shut it self off for NO apparent reason. So I fiddled with the power switch and unplugged it, flipped the switch on the PSU, etc. etc... Finally it turns back on, then turns off again after about 2 seconds. First order of business is to replace a power supply that isn't reliable. -

What is the proper procedure order for installing Audigy Pla
isochar replied to tdavie's topic in Hardware
If you want to use the applications, you'll need to use the bundled CD. Install the Win2k stuff, then apply the downloaded XP drivers. -
I believe you can change that in TweakUI or TweakXP. Don't remember which.

I'm running a TigerMP right now, nothing but headaches for the past month. Can't wait until the Xeon 2.0A's come out so I can ditch this thing.
-
If it was best all-around, it'd be the Ti200 since it gives great performance for the price. (Especially with some peeps picking it up for $100 at Best Buy )

Seems Display Properties NEVER saves any skin/wallpaper combination when I try... anyone know why? TIA

Savings themes through Display Properties?
isochar replied to isochar's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Seems the problem was that I had deleted all the .theme files, and XP didn't want to save any news ones. Solution was to replace the old .theme files and it works now. -
Yeh, Halo is definately way above all the games listed in the poll.

alcatel usb modem problems in xp

Call your DSL ISP and ask them to replace the alcatel with a different manufacturer. (alcatel=POS) -
Quote: no, the shellstyle file is still there but it carries a version number of 5.1.2600, it's not hacking the .theme file, you can easily create a .theme file, and the other night i just found out that the calls to themeui.dll do not have to be removed, i trying to get the themes working properly now by using the 5.1.2600 version od shellstyle.dll so i don't have to keep the RC1 version around as for name calling, i was pissed because people are saying that you have to mod/hack files to get the themes working ...So, sorry for that. No problem. I'll definately give your method more consideration than TGTsoft's. Let us know how your efforts with the 2600 shellstyle.dll turn out!

I have two pesky files that refuse to be deleted/moved in normal or safe mode. Everytime I try, Windows says that they are being used by a program. Any ideas on how to get rid of them?
-
Resorting to name calling just shows how educated you are. Quote: the trick with the old .dll files is to using an RC1 (2505) version of shellstyle.dll and to remove the calls to themeui.dll in the .theme file, nothing is hacked and i have no programs installed, no WindowsBlinds, no StyleXP. It's as simple as that. From what you said there, you *are* hacking the .theme file by removing the calls to themeui.dll. As for using shellstyle.dll, I assume it was removed after RC1 for stability reasons. So why would anyone want to risk the chance of making the OS unstable?

Link to "Native XP Skins"?
-
For the people that do not want to alter/hack/replace original Windows DLLs, Windowblinds XP is the only way to add more skins.
-
Sure you can install them both, but right now Styles XP doesn't work right when Windowblinds is installed and vice versa. (WB doesn't like the hacked dll) As for using old dlls, it's the same thing as using a hacked dll. The original dll that came with XP has been modified/replaced.
-
Quote: funny, cause i design my own "NATIVE" XP skins without "hacking" any .dll files. You do understand he's not just talking about designing XP skins, but importing them into WinXP as well? If that's what you're talking about, please share how you accomplish this. Either you somehow get your skins digitally signed or you have hacked DLLs. (If you've come up with a third way, then you're the first)
-
The rumor is that Microsoft will not be releasing additional skins for XP. To get more skins you will need to install 1 of these programs (cannot be installed at the same time): - Styles XP (www.tgtsoft.com) - Windowblinds XP (www.stardock.com) Windowblinds XP, IMHO, is the way to go because it doesn't hack any Windows DLL's and it can improve the interface.

I have a X15-36LP. Absolutely smokes everything out there. (Has a higher STR than any RAID 0 7200rpm IDE setup Review is here: http://www.storagereview.com/articles/200107/20010719ST336752LW_1.html To sum it up: "Make no mistake about it, the Cheetah X15-36LP is the fastest hard drive one can buy for any and all applications. Period."
