I want to connect two networks together. One is in one city, and the other is somewhere else. Network 1 has a router that routes traffic to the ISP, and is the DHCP server. Network 2 does the exact same thing. But the BDC on Network 1 cannot find the PDC on Network 2. I have setup LMHOSTS and WINS. I can now find the PDC's computer with NetBOIS names (ie. \\pdc). But when I open server manager or user manager, it cannot locate the PDC. What am i doing wrong. How do I make two remote locations a LAN? Misc info: NT4 Server Netopia routers DSL Tried static IP's

We are using a Win98 box as a router temporarily. Just moved to new office location and haven't had DSL installed in the building yet. So will have netopia router soon. I thought it would not make a differece to use win98. Didn't know that it would not forward netbios info. Or is this what happens? I have a cheap D-Link gateway at home and XSpeed SDSL modem and still... Server Manager and User Manager give the error when launched "Cannot find the Primary DC ...." The gateway has a firewall, and I can choose extra ports to map to IP's, but what do you suggest? Which ports? Thanks for the great info When server manager

I tried to find the PDC from home using NT4 SERVER and still had no luck. I did this because I am on DSL and this eliminates the private IP variable (I am directly connected to the net).

Please gimme a hand here. The PDC is in one city and the BDC just moved to another city. Each are connected to the internet via dialup (different subnets). It will be DSL soon, whenever Ameritech feels like getting around to it. Here is the problem. When I open Service Manager or User Manager, I get an error that says it cannot find the PDC for this domain. Anyways, first I'll let you know what I've done, then maybe someone could tell me what I need to do. Domain= CSPE[censored]T.COM IP= 63.77.239.163 Computer name= P3 So, first of all, I didn't need to add an entry to the hosts file because DNS resolves it fine (our ISP handels DNS). Second, I added an entry to lmhosts; now I can click "find computer" and find P3. But it does not show up in Network Neighborhood (I don't mind, but would be nice to resolve that little detail). Third, I decided maybe I need to config TCP/IP to point to myself as the WINS server and setup WINS manager. I am not too familiar with WINS manager so I just kept trying to add P3 as a unique in WINS manager, and I add CSPE[censored]T.COM as a domain in WINS manager. Help! Here is what I know so far. There are no NetBIOS scope ID's being assigned, so this is not a variable. I reboot after each change, so this is not a variable. The PDC is directly connected to the internet and has an address of 63.77.239.163 The BDC is not directly connected to the net and uses a private/local address of 192.168.0.3 We have a Win98 client with internet connection sharing. But we are not using DHCP (it is all static). I did not think this would be a variable because the BDC is trying to find the PDC, not vise-versa. And the BDC does not get any network config settings from the win98 pc because it is all static. So what do I do? Continue to play with WINS manager? One last thing (this might be important).
