Quote: We're talking simple word processing / email / web browsers I'll give you that, but what if you need to save a typed document? You have to at least know where they are and what they are. Linux may have a different naming structure for the drives installed, but the difference between C: and /root is only a name, and a "c:" may not be interpereted as a storage location, and /root may not either. Linux and windows are hardly comparable though. Linux is a strong environment for programming, and small server applications and the web server apache is extremely easy to use. Windows is good for alotta stuff, to many to name, and including programming and webserving (thnx again clutch). Do I run linux 24-7? No. Do I think windows is better that linux? No. Do I think they are used seperatly, depending on use and applications? Yes. For instance, I worked at a research company and the programmers there primarily used a windows/linux boot combo. Why? Because they both have their useful points. Even some *nix distro's are aiming primarily at media, I beleive its FreeBSD that has tons of support for 3d applications, and video editing. Quote: I put down Redhat, simply because it's the only one I've tried I've NEVER been ablet o get working LOL...same with me, cept replace keyboard with video card. But I got slackware running just fine. And you could also say that about a via/sblive/nvidia/M$ combo. Linux has less support than windows for sure, but, writing drivers and fixes is something I'll be able to do soon!

Quote: -Pick someone at RANDOm from the street and ask him to USE a linux machine (NOT LEARN, but USE it) and at least 6 or 7 time ou of 10 he/she would fail to do it efficiently. However, at least 7 or 8 out of 10 WILL manage to use Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2k/Xp with little or no effort? REGARDLESS OF WHY, its a fact! I guess I missed that email. My mother for instance, doesnt know what a hard drive does. Do you think that windows makes it easier for her to know what it is? Nope. Quote: Also what i meant is If I, a computer science student, can't seem to get it to work, how would someone at random be able to? I can figure it out just fine. Have had a small amount of problems with it, and these problems are the same ones I had when installing win95, cause it was new to me. Have been able to use linux right outta high school, and now I am in Computer Engineering Technology and I can assure you Linux is a very important operating system in our course. How are you gonna learn to do OS programming on Windows ME. Its not open source.

If I had to pick a bad distro, I'd pick Corel. But I dont think linux sucks at all. Its really powerful, especially for dollar/value. As a computer science student, you can appreciate the free GNU as compared to spending over $150 for a Borland or Msoft IDE. Using a newer version of X, you should be able to navigatye quite good until you are up to speed on the console commands.

thnx clutch Ill go through these tonite after I am sick of studying (tuesday is my first outta 7 finals).

Quote: I take it Durons are NOT multiplier locked like some other Intel stuff is? Arent the durons EASIER to unlock? Thanks to AMD's chip design, you have access to the layout, but with INTEL they have that metal "cover" dont they?

Ye, that water-cooled system was pretty sweet indeed. I really dig the full tower cases (all of us have em ) and they provide alotta le-way when modding. btw thanks for the pics!!!

I found this site a while back Its not too too bad, there is some useful info there, and they cover quite a large area (for one site anyways) casejunkiez And I dont know if this is what you were looking for....but this MAY help, at least with the cutting. front fan mount I noticed clutch threw some kind of 'attachment' in his front fan mount. Possibly to increase air flow.

That dynamat application is also something I am really thinkin about doing. But....gotta find a place other than future shop that does NOT sell for $1,000 a square foot!

CrazyKillerMan replied to Dzian's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Quote: you mean after you go back to the "classic windows" setting? Would also be nice to know how to change the horid green one too. -
Quote: I should email you pics of my rig inside & out and you send me yours too! I cant do that until i get my hands on a digi cam or a scanner. But, my friend that is painting it has one, so I will have to send some pics before and after to you. I plan on getting some loom or spiral wrap to go on the power supply cables, and for xmas, hopefully I get the server spec gladiator cables from pcmods.com (ata133 spec, and they look cool!!!) But, send that email if you wish to ben_stolz

All the above are also including the tweak on the 761 chipset. STOP GRANT DISCONNECT and HALT DISCONNECT It drops my temps about another 6 degrees (CPU anyways). But, I am really happy with my mods. I seem to have placed the new fans/holes in optimum positions at least. I am doing some modding to the case I have. Added the blowhole and the blower on side. Also installed a blue LED ($7 cdn!!!!), which was rather easy. Over the xmas and early 2002 months, I am gonna get my bud to airbrush it too. GOnna do it right, sanding, primer, masking, and most importantly, taking the whole case apart. And, consequently, the case is super easy to mod and what not.

Quote: I worked for a year as a Web Developer working on Web Applications on a company intranet and I had to fix a lot of trashy HTML pages while there which is probably why I so passionately hate MS FrontPage. same here.....only for 4 months (summer job)...crappiest code EVER(simpsons comic book guy)!!!

o....btw on the NTFS comments....you can only read files in linux when u mount an NTFS partition. If you are a linux buff, throw on fat32 for your non-os partitions
-
Quote: One word: Notepad ouch why not textpad...alot easier to edit web designs when its nice and colored.
-
Quote: C:SWAPFILE I want to do this...but with a raid array...figure it would be the same way? and wondering how you throw the swap to that particular HD partition. But...I would definatly go along with Brian with the NTFS thing also....you could throw an extended partition on there and throw linux on too.

.... Quote: Just never let a web programmer hear you say that. Have you ever looked at the junk code it creates? Bleech!! I think that in one webpage, front page puts more nbsp's than I have ever typed.

Quote: Ermmm... tried using right-click -> View source? ....heh...no...actually... I didnt realize that there was a right click menu for view source...I always thought that View ---> Source was the only way to do it.....

better, but is that scroll bar necessary? its just that those take up alotta real estate and they make a solid looking site look 'amatuerish' thats my opinion anyways try something like this: <TABLE> <TR> <TD>title stuff(wintweaks pic) </TD><TD></TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <TABLE> <TR> <TD> <! this stuff is on left side> </TD> <TD> <! this is for the main body> </TD> </TR> </TABLE> </TD> <TR> </TABLE> of course, i cant see your source, so you may have done this, so you may have done this already. Just a note that a bit of help may be a reference guide for html tags. ie: over the summer I had a "Mastering HTML 4.0" book and it was worth its money just in the reference in the back. All of the modifiers for <TABLE> and <TD> and <TR> and all....seeing as though you are designing a web page, this type of thing is really handy to have at your fingertips for efficiency and keeping as much hair as possible.

o yah man. OEM stuff is sold like crazy. ATI's OEM vid cards (Radeon anyway) is sold with crappier memory and a slower clock speed. There is a palce called tectronics in saskatchewan here, and they sell tons of OEM stuff. A vid card, in a static bag, with a manual held to the bag with an elastic bag.

yes. its bad.
