Will SP3 W2K be needed ever arrive ?
CrazyKillerMan replied to lager_brains's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Well, I do indeed enjoy Windows 2000. I really have no reason for upgrading at all. ie: look at all the pc companies like dell and compaq that are still churning out 98 boxes. BUT! Like when all the other OS's were released I tried them. Some I didnt like at all (WinME), but some that did thier job fairly well. I think that win2k is fantastic, I love it, but whats to say that XP isnt even just a bit better. And with that reasonable doubt in mind, I am at least gonna try it for a couple weeks (....heh...sshhhhh) and if i dont like it I havent lost anything. I still have windows 2000 and short of taking a couple hours away, it can always be re-installed. The point I'm getting at is that I want my computer to be rock solid stable, and running the fastest, mostuseful software money can buy. So if XP doesnt appeal to me...no loss. But if it does...then there is no loss either, more of a gain. -
Just wondering how to do this...used sandra and got a 47094 with my 2 diamond max with a fast trak 100 I know its faster than without raid....but i wanna know mbits/s

ye thats a sweet case...but lotsa $$$

I have that AOPEN case and its fantastic. Absolutly huge 6/7 hard drive bays (3 of em are below 5.25, other 4 are ontop of ps) 3 vent holes for 80mm fans 5 5.25 bays a removalbe top that I will shortly be cutting 2 holes in for "blowholes" The only bad thing about the case are the sides. THey have to slide of all the way, thus making it impossible to mount a fan to it, but..there is one opening at bottom front and 2 openings just above ps for fans. I am really happy with it, its on the heavy side though 30+lbs!!!

If you cannot see the un-formatted drive in windows 2000, goto www.bootdisk.com and create a 98/98SE/ME boot disk and use that to go into fdisk and create a primary dos partition. Then format using the same boot disk (be sure to reboot after partitioning) then go back into win2k. Done.

what about your services?? is anything using larger and larger amounts of data as the system runs???

When you overclock the frequency you are changing the settings for agp also. The herc prolly is being maxed out. Like THC said..change the ratio b/c its getting to much power/bandwidth to handle.

Anything other than media player 8 good???? Any help would be appreciated.

heh i knew that too.....sorry....just get rid of temp folder....if winnt needed it...it would have placed it elsewhere. And....I agree with dosfreak about not deleteing the inet downloaded files....but i rip em over to a 'patch' cdrw so i can keep about 2 gigs free....but then again...i have 80 gigs of space....
-
id like to throw down another point...i just read the 'tweaking of the 760 chipset' and changed 2 register values from 0 to 1 and it has decreased my temperature in the cpu by about 6 degrees...just from a small tweak.

diskkeeper 6.0 is fantastic....works very well and is very effieicent.

First Question---- no idea Second Question--- In the temp folder WIndows usually throws files in there needed for installing a program. After a reboot does it still explain to you that there are shared files in there? If so what files??? Try using win2k's "Disk Cleanup" which usually takes out the middleman of guessing. Third Question---- Are you refering to a 'setup.exe' for say......napster? Once you install this program it is safe to delete the setup files.

OK....heres the deal. I have purchased an IWILL RAID card thats ata100. I have 2 30 gig maxtor 7200rpm ata100 drives. Upon installing i create the array and start win2k install. I install the highpoint drivers when win2k asks and everything runs just fine....until the reboot. Upon rebooting it gets to hte "Starting Windows" progress bar and freezes. Keeps doing this. But sometimes it states that ntskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt. I have done everything under the sun imaginable to get this to werk....using slave/master/CS for the hard drives settings (Master is supposed to work) but to no avail. I have tried ntfs formatting but the problem persists. I fdisk'd the drives and it seen the 60 gigs and formatted as fat32 and win2k setup seen it was a valid partition, but the exact problem still happens. I have the latest bios for mobo and raid card. Using the newest drivers downloaded from iwill's website. I could really use a hand in figuring this out....or is it just a hardware conflict? One wierd thing is that it works fine when i mirror the data....but not when i stripe the data. But i wanna stripe data....so im at a loss.

Installing 95/98 games with compatibility update
CrazyKillerMan replied to a10thunder's topic in Games
you have to make a shortcut for the file you want to enable. Right click > create shortcut then...when thats created right click and goto properties...only in hte shortcut will there be a compatiblity tab at the top. -
im having the same exact problem....even tried forceaspi....but nothing works....same exact problem....i am interested to see how to fix this.

is the nic attached to something? if its not thats the problem
-
nice temps man!!....i just gotta get 2 more sunion fans at the top of the case to get rid of the hot air (full tower AOPEN)

Ok hers the scenario: Get my IWILL Raid card installed and the 2 maxtor 30 gig'rs on it. Boot up, create a raid 0 array. Reboot, throw in a bootable burnt disc with win2k pro on it. Disc loads up, I hit f6 at the appropriate time. When i get to the part where it says to press "s" to install the third party drivers, I get an unexpected error on d: and it throws off the name of some dir on the disc. Now originally i thought it was because of the disc, so i tried the advanced server disc, same error (also burnt). I was thinking it could be the DVD having a problem reading the burnt disc but I tried it here at work in a DVD and it worked just fine. Can anyone think what the problem may be??? AMD 1.2 GHZ Asus A7m-266 ddr board (AMD 761 north, via south) 2 Maxtor 30 gig hd ata 100 7200 rpm 1 fujitsu 20 gig hd ata 100 7200 rpm Pioneer DVD ATI Radeon DDR 64 meg Win2k pro, advanced server, the latest bios for mobo, and three-in-one drivers for south bridge.

How do I set up Peer to Peer with Win2K and WinMe
CrazyKillerMan replied to bando2000's topic in Networking
ya an enableing that account, place the "guest" as the login name on your ME machine. But i dont kow if youll be able to see anything besides the computer, as the files system is not readable be ME (NTFS). -
whip on over to the manufacturers website and get up to date V.92 drivers for the modem. About the com port...is there jumpers on the card at all??? You may have to change the jumper settings to get the modem to use a different com port. Try to get it to use com port 2, that is if you can. I had the same problem with a jumperless board back in the day with a p200mmx and I remember that being a royal pain in the ***. SO, im sorry I cant be of more help, but try drivers from the website (I assume you have some inet access, noting message above).

Access would work if you already own it. If not throw it on SQL (for the web part of it anyways)...its free and can run on linux.
