OK i swapped out some hardware (SBlive and nic) and was able to install the drivers. I set the 2 discs as a raid 0 array. I installed 2k, along witht the highpoint drivers. Once everything is installed, setup reboots. Upon the "Starting windows" screen witht the progress bar, i get an error that says something about a missing or corrupt file (i think it was a kernel file)...anyways, I tried three more times, with the raid card set in differing slots, but I got the same error. As I type this know I have the controller set up for raid 1 operation and it works flawlessley. Can anyone think of a problem im overlookin??? Any help would really be appreciated.

Anyone have a Micron Millennia XP Athlon with DDR Memory?
CrazyKillerMan replied to mpschneier's topic in Hardware
actually i think that you will be ok with 4-in-1's. I was reading some about the final and it said something about this specific chipset (686B) so just go with that. www.m3dzone.com -

CrazyKillerMan replied to mpschneier's topic in Hardware
i believe that you use the 3-in-1's for the via chipset. I have the asus A7M ddr board with the same north/south chipsets. Using asus's update utility, it installed the 3-in-1's. -
Just got my new system today. I am putting it together at the moment. The problem I was wondering about is the hard drives for raid. I couldnt get a raid controller today, but i wanna try the new computer out b4 i get the controller. I have 2 Maxtor 30 Gig HD, and I was wondering; if i was to install to one of these hard drives, would that screw up raid later on when i get the controller??? Or could I install to one hd, and when I get the controller, just re-format the hd I installed win2k on and hook it up as raid?

Iwill KA266-R I was thinking about this mobo for my next upgrade, partly because of the DDR FSB, DDR RAM and partly because of the RAID. I was just wondering if this new chipset is gonna give me any problems, its the ALi MAGiK 1, and I havent really heard good things about ALi's. But the board got a perfect 10 in maximum pc reveiw. Another thing is that it has 4.1 onboard audio, if I disable this, will it still hit the performance? Just wondering what everybody thinks about it. thanx

thanx anyways Brian, as always youve been of help.
-
Yes, thats what I was thinking, Ive only heard and received good things from asus boards. But...I definatly want raid, so what controller if you dont mind me asking would be best. I think promise, after some research, but adaptec is also a decent name. Thanx for the speedy replies.

can you recommend a good board. I have an ASUS now and am pleased with it, but, the Iwill board has the raid, which isnt really all that important as i can get a controller later on down the road. Tyan only has KT133A's at their web site, Iwill doesnt have any 760 boards, asus has a 761 chipset the A7M266, Epox has a nice one called the EP-8K7A+ but i havent read much about EPOX. So, should i just chill a bit before upgrading my computer?

OK.....im gonna paint this out...almost ready to throw computer out. Running windows 2000 pro with all the newest updates, checked for viruses, checked surface of hard drives, did not install anything for like 2 weeks, cept the newest det drivers. I have a p3 500, asus p2b-f mobo, 256 megs of ram, tnt2 ultra, sblive and a 3com eithernet card, im logged in as admin, ive checked for viruses. For some reason my computer started locking up...HARD, no ctrl+alt+del nothing, no mouse movements. So...i decided it was time for a clean install anyways. Booted to dos using 98 boot disk, formatted the OS partition I created before. Reinstalled every last little thing, all updates, newest working drivers, (for tnt2 i stayed with 6.5's as i thought the problem was the 12.00's), then for some reason, and it seems to only happen at the stupidest moments, the computer LOCKS. It locked when i moved my binchunker icon toa different spot, locked when i clicked on the ICQ button, locks whenever I try to edit my ftpp server stuff. I dont know whats wrong, the only thing i can start to blame anything on is the power supply/cpu/mobo. Can someone please help!!! Im at my witts end. Thanx so much in advance. -

There is plently of airflow (2x80mm 1x60mm) and the cables are neatly placed. It was indeed simply the drivers. it has not jammed for days now, much longer than the usual 15 minutes. -

CrazyKillerMan replied to kingtrey's topic in Hardware

CrazyKillerMan replied to kingtrey's topic in Hardware
I like the 7.xx series, 10.80 are also fast. The 12.xx are good....but a little buggy on my system. -
