If your planning on getting some decent exp, I would suggest enrolling in a Co-Op course. I am in a 31 month Computer Engineering Technology course, that out of the 31 months has about 11-12 months of work expierience. After i graduate i can join numerous technology and engineering organizations that will get me anywhere i need to go. Plus i have heard that some of the salarys ppl make from courses like mine, out of school, but without the work term can be close to $70K a year. So hopefully i can move outta saskatchewan and go somewhere were stuff happens But keep in mind....starting at 70K a year is merely luck. I have heard about orgz from Cal comming to alberta canada and giving out signing bonuses and what not. I will get my diploma in computer engineering and will be able to get my degree in a few years afterwards. Then hopefull i can get my BS and go somewhere in which winter means no snow

Just backed up using xcopy32 and it copied all the files over the 8 chars long with the ever so annoying ~1. I really dont have a problem with this, but i have about 5 gigs of mp3z that look like this. Is there any program that will change it??? Or am I stuck?

heh.....sorry....I backed up one HD with the other, but the first need to be formatted. Using xcopy after format to transfer from d: to c:...this is what happened. -
....this sounds really cool!!! I cant wait to see it up. Good luck guys! EDIT Seeing as though its starting again ... I could do something after next week. I have learned a hell of alot after being on the board and being at school. /EDIT

This is kinda off topic but i was wondering if anyone could recommend a C program. I hear borland is good, but i was wondering if there are any others, and if so, is there student version available?

Back to the topic at hand, I have really noticed a large decrease in the quality of the posts. Sure the regulars (you know who you are) come through with insightful answers and solutions to problems, while others post some rediculous replys. It ssmes everyone here seems to be getting lazy, myself included. I really agree with jd's professional suggestion. When i get home after a long day of semi-conductor electronics the last thing i wanna hear is how much a certain OS blows, or destroys. Given, this message board has a very wide variety of topics, all of them seem to end up in some rather childish banter, like i said, myself included. I think one of the main problems is that we all know eachother and their style and its getting to everyones ego, myself included.

CUViper is right. Everything on a computer runs on clock cycles. The different Clock cycles speed determine the frequencies. There is no way ram can adjust the output cycle speed. The clock pulses are always going to be there no matter how big the memory is. If the fsb is clocked at 100MHz then thats what it stays at. The clock pulses will tell the cpu to write to the ram. There may be a delay, but timing will always be on the money. [This message has been edited by CrazyKillerMan (edited 14 March 2001).]

Network icon and all network protocoll gone
CrazyKillerMan replied to ambikins's topic in Networking
Using the win2k cd, just goto control panel, system, hardware wizard and install the required settings back onto your laptop, also try re-installing the drivers for your notebooks nic. Then, hopefully the network neighborhood icon is there and install the required services. Hope that helps, i really dont have any exp w/ laptops -

I have 512 kb of lvl 2 cache enabled in the bios of my mobo (Asus P2B-F) and i have it disabled in windows 2k. I have 256 megs of ram, and i was wondering if it was worth enabling L2 cache in windows. I have a P3 500. Thanx
-
I have win 2k with 256 megs of ram. IO pages default to 512 K in win2k....is it gonna make a diff pumping this up to 64 megs or 16 megs??? Or is this just a waste of time????

OK...i got me a dual boot. Win2k for almost everything and 98 for some programs i need for school (Circuitmaker 2000 doesnt print very well in 2k, winspool errors) anyways, I have norton utils 2000 and i was jsut about to use speed disk, but then i got to thinking. I have both Os's on one 10 gig hd, with 20 other gigs dedicated to whatever. If i use speed disk in win2k, will that not screw everything up in win98?? ie: Windows 98 file structures for the os itself. thnx
-
ok.....here another problem i may have run into. When installing most of my programs, instead of installing them to the program files dir, i install onto my 20 gig hd. I can see this being a problem as u stated Bursar, b/c of the OS's keeping track of most used appz. Maybe the 20 gig would be best as a system drive...hmmm. Thanx alot guys!

here it is....when u try to logon to the win2k machine...win98 and ME will only display an input for password. The logon name in win 98 is your login name for the 2k server. U have to add this account to the win2k account. Ie: on my roomates computer his login name at login screen for 98 is "Bob" i have to create an account that has a login name of "Bob". So create a new account under users and guests or whatever it is, and u shoud be set, providing your services are set up ok. Note: On default settings, the services are set for doing this.
