you might wanna check the HKLM>software>microsoft>windows>Run section and see if it's there. It could also be in HKCU>software>microsoft>windows>Run (not sure which one of these two) [This message has been edited by bug_666 (edited 04 March 2001).]

XP Personal is the only version that will probably be cheaper.

How do you know that it's not going to be like upgrade, 9 full or some crap like that? You don't, so shut up already calm down already. There is a big difference between getting a single CD and putting win2k on every machine in your house(assuming you have more than one) and upgrading the entire company where you can't do that since businesses are the primary targets of BSA(Boy Scouts of America). Besides, the only reason why MS was almost giving away WinME is because not a single dumbass out there would spend 90 bucks for an oversized service packs that doesn't even do its job. Don't expect MS to do the same with XP.

just unplug the modem/network cable if you are too worried.

For one, i don't know where all these village rumors about win2k not being a gaming OS come from. If your hardware manufacturer is willing to support real operating systems and not just put out a first attempt to write win2k driver and say 'we support win2k', then most of your games should run fine. i have about 40-60 games and only a handful don't work/work improperly. Hell, i'd rather pass up on a single game than use that POS win9x. Any major game engine supports win2k. [This message has been edited by bug_666 (edited 26 February 2001).]

i can't see it either except for when i log on in safemode. have you tried asking that brown dog? I even reinstalled thinking that i may have messed up something.

system restore:sounds good but i hope it won't gobble up HD space as fast as the one in ME Luna Interface:Blue, blue, and more blue. I find it annoying as hell. Native Support for Burning CD-R's:I don't think it's native since they admit that they borrowed it from some other company besides, there are probably 1001 apps that can do the same thing. I do have to admit that users won't have to know what 'multi-session' means. Driver Rollback: Sounds like a great feature that should have been added to win98. MSCONFIG (ala Win9x): it also works on win2k. Remote Desktop: Looks good but i think that most promising feature is built-in remote support. It should be useful mostly to home (l)users since many businesses run special apps for that. IE6.0:hmm, i wonder where WinME SE is? Improved boot time: it seems to boot a lot faster than Win2k. Compatibility mode: This is merely fooling OS check that some programs have. If a program is incompatible with nt/2k/xp and there is a check to tell users that it isn't, fooling it won't make the program compatible. XP is NT kernel based and emulation will not solve all the problems although it will solve some. Fast user switching: VERY NICE.

Please HELP my good people... (Win 2K + ME together)
bug_666 replied to FilthX's topic in Customization & Tweaking
it's best to install WinME first and then install win2k. -
can you completely disable it by setting all of its permission on Deny?

Help!! I broke Win2K services ... now what?
bug_666 replied to Napalm's topic in Customization & Tweaking
can't u use the recovery console? I think it has a command that will allow you to modify service statup settings, besides you should have put those services on manual so that they can be started when truly needed. i think it's Remote procedure service that needs to be enable since i checked the dependencies and there are like a dozen of serviced depending on it. Quote: Originally posted by Ekstreme: Down8, this doesn't give an answer to your question, it's only a tip if you don't know it already. If you are using a dialup device, you can logon a different user and not have to disconnect your net connection. To do this open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon, right click and select New -> String Value. Name it 'KeepRasConnections' (minus the ' '), hit enter and give it the value 1. reboot for it to take effect. Hope this helps out yeah yeah yeah, but wouldn't logging off close the program that uses the connection?

can't u just use the "Run as..." to launch whatever player u use with your l/p, browse into your folder(when u use RunAs, the program will have the permissions from our acct.), and open the file?

i checked Local Users and Groups, and I saw Administrator account, but how do i use it? i tried to logon but it gave me an error(yes, i put in the right p***). Also, how come the link to LUaG isn't in the acct. manager like it was in win2k. One last thing, How come it takes so bloody long to startup-it seems to stop for quite a while during applying computer settings. What's that weird cn=microsoft(or something along those lines) account for? [This message has been edited by bug_666 (edited 27 December 2000).]

yes, win95b is good for lower end computers that can't handle win2k or strain their balls on 98.

silly people. Beeker50, pirate software distribution is not limited to crap sites found in those lame top50 lists. You don't have to be well connected to be able to get stuff. There are lots of alternate sources like newsgroups or IRC.

you kid is stupid or something-you never install beta software on your primary OS. When i got a copy from 'an uncle who works at Microsoft', i put it onto my anoter partition with WinME(i run win2k). BTW, this beta IS buggy-your kiddo shoulda waited for the final version.
