if u use a 4 pin cable you can ONLY get S-Video if you use the 7 pin one that came with it u get composite - the reason being the other 3 pins are the composite signals (well only 2 - one must be used for switching) so either use S-Video to Svideo or get a proper 7 pin cable - try sigma designs website for a contact number

Guys I still have this problem in Win2k with my G400 or G450
~Aragorn~ replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
think about it folks win2k will only give the gfx card FREE memory for use as AGP textures - so even if the bios is willing to allocate 128meg out of 128meg to the graphics card windows gets first tabs on it and there is probably only 20 odd meg free - check it using task manager Aragorn -
hmm i think win2k like doing this... i had a similar problem d3d wasn't accelerated and i had no agp but the funny thing was that it just went, i never changed anything, just noticed q3 going slower and noticed agp was offline. my mate had identicle prob about 4 weeks later after installing new drvs for gfx card so my solution would be try to reinstall windows! you never know it will probably fix it Aragorn

I you REALLY want to toss anything make it the Mobo (unless that is a first gen TNT). i would plump for a duron 600 and an abit KT7 i'll cos you about £150 or so. if it is a first gen TNT i would suggest getting a GF2MX or summat but if ur having probs with the TNT you will have problems with that too. Just gimme some idea of the probs u are having and ill see what i can do.

Pioneer DVD-115 won't read DVD's properly. Please Help!
~Aragorn~ replied to D_Williams's topic in Hardware
ok this will seem a bit extreme but i had the same problem with a PCF cd and the way i fixed it seems a bit strange. i had read a thing on sigma designs page about some dvd's not playing right and you had to disable UDFS (the CD filesystem) i tried it and it actually worked - and i could still read normal cd's - i also have a pioneer drive only mines is the DVD-105s (slot loader) here you go 1. open regedit and goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\ 2.find UDFS and rename to OLDUDFS 3. goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services 4. rename UDFS to OLDUDFS 5. reboot then enjoy -
probably caused by the original pc having ACPI installed and the second one not supporting it it tries to fire up ACPI cant find it so it tells u that
-
go for the geforce - it MUCH better: 1. Faster than ANY 3dfx card 2. Who needs FSAA when u can simply turn up the res 3. 3dfx's support sucks 4. Nvidia's doesn't 5. They are far better under win2k and well if i find more ill post more!

funny - what refresh rate problem are you on about - i have GeForce DDR and run the desktop happily at 1280x1024x85Hz i just picked the refresh rate from the Monitor tab in advanced properties. the was a problem with monitors and the win2k beta drivers for creative dxr3 - this could be the prob fix is on the board somwhere

ok a few stupid questions: Does win2k Pro support 486 cpu's or is it Pentium only? Will win2k SERVER run on 64meg ram + 233 cpu Whats the smallest ran anyone has run win2k Pro on? Aragorn

What does W2K SP1 break? (Problem w/ watching DVDs)
~Aragorn~ replied to strider's topic in Hardware
ok mate - it was just a thaught - as i said it fixed a problem i had with reading certain areas of a normal PC DVDROM Aragorn -
check the cables - he could be right crossover cables used in mistake can cause this problem - try connecting each of the cables DIRECTLY between the pc's if one works then its a crossover so u need to change it for a normal one other than that borrow some other cables from uni or where ever and try them Collisions will occur but only when more than one pc tries to transmit at a time this could be caused by dodgy network cards/drivers or lots of pcs Aragorn

What does W2K SP1 break? (Problem w/ watching DVDs)
~Aragorn~ replied to strider's topic in Hardware
ok i think i know the problem - it also exists when u read certain DVD's - it is fixabe but its a bit dodgy to fix u have to go into the registry and edit out the lines that load the udfs service - exactly, WOW, but surprising ly everything still works like normal - cd's dvd's that did work before and DVD-ROMs. anyway here is the snippet from the sigma designs page that describes it: If you are are trying to view certain DVD movies such as "The World Is Not Enough" and receive a "file not found" or MMSYSTEM 275 error, please do the following (as proposed by a user and tested by us): Run regedit and rename the entries - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Udfs and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\Udfs by changing "Udfs" to any name like "Abc" and reboot. When you change control set 001, it automatically changes control set 002. When you are done with the movie, rename "Abc" back to "Udfs". try it - im sure it will work cos it solved my problem where i couldnt get into some data on a dvdrom! Aragorn
