  1. I have a brand new system, abit kx7-333 (1.1 pcb) athlon xp 1800, 256mg crucial ddr pc2700, gainward ti4200, and santa cruz sound card. The whole system works fine, games play, nothing crashes, except for when I shut my computer down and leave it off for a few hours, when I go to turn it on again, the system powers up for a second and shuts off again. The only way I can get it to turn on is to rest the bios and then reset all my bios settings. My friend has an identical system which I built and it does the same thing. Unless I did something really wrong both times when I built them, I have no idea what the problem could be. Any ideas?

Strange poweron problem with abit mobo...

Yeah it's definetely not my ps, I used my same case with my old asus mobo. It's an antec so it's a pretty good one.
  3. I seem to have a sound problem with win2k and my santa cruz sound card. This is a random problem, but every so often, whether I'm playing a game or a cd sometimes the computer will lock up and the sound will start skipping and I must do a hard restart. I have every update for win2k and I have the latest drivers for the santa cruz. I also have the latest bios for my abit kx7-333. I have tried setting the dx sound acceleration down to basic but that didn't help. The only thing I haven't tried is switching the pci slot that the sound card is in, but I only have the sound card and a network card on the pci slots so I wouldn't think they would conflict. Any other ideas?

Problem with win2k and santa cruz

I don't have another sound card I could try. I checked my irq's in device manager and all of the irq's for my pci slots are all different. I tried the via pci latency patch just to see if that might help anything. We'll see what happens. From what I hear the santa cruz is a pretty stable sound card and not many people have problems. I am not sure what my bios is set to in regards to pnp or os, but I can check...

    Anyone do Serious Sam yet?

I would have to say that I am the 2nd person that doesn't like this game. I feel that the level layout of doom was much better and the fun factor was as well. The amount of enemies is just absurd, and it's very frustrating to have enemies just appear behind you. I do feel I should support these kind of developers too.

    can't install win2k

My system is a k6-2 400, 64mg ram, biostar motherboard based on ali chipset, viper 770, mx300 soundcard and an old generic lan card. I have tried installing by booting the cd, it loads all the drivers it needs and such but it just hard locks when it says setup is starting windows 2000. I even tried installing win98, installing win2k as an upgrade, it verifies that all my hardware is supported, and locks up in the exact same place!!!! HELP! I wanna use this as a Demise or UT server!

    can't install win2k

Yes it does have the latest bios. I did not try removing any of the hardware. I received the machine from my dad who previously had win2k on it, but it would not boot for some reason, it would just go to a black screen and sit there forever, so I formatted to install again, and it won't install. I don't get it. I think i'll just take the ram from that machine and put it in mine

    can't install win2k

When I tried pushing the power button nothing happened, so I assumed it locked up.
