I got my linux distro to work perfectly. WinME would sorta boot... it would start to load but as soon as it initialized my USB devices it would either a) just sit there or BSOD. Anyways i killed WinME and now i'm running WinXP/own compiled version of linux. www.linuxfromscratch.com

I'll have to agree with JDul on this one. I highly recommend beta 2 (2462). They fixed so many problems in this release. Windows Media Player 8 is actually useful in this release.

I nuked WinME off my system. It would always fuk up. Now i'm running WinXP and Redhat 7.1b. The biggest problem i had with WinME was that after installing a linux distro WinME would refuse to boot, so i'd end up reinstalling WinME. The only thing i liked about WinME was the quick boot time, thats it. oh yeah, it don't take brains to be in the IT business, anyone can do it. The real brainy people are the software, network, and computer engineers.

I got no problems with eddie. He seems to be the only one who doesn't critisize my pro-linux opinion.

I suggest trying the Redhat 7.1 beta. It owns the monkeys balls!!! It comes with the 2.4 kernel, kde 2.1b, and its super stable and super fast. When I play quake 3 i get at least a 10-15fps increase over the Winxxx version.

ok, i just installed beta 2 and WOW! what an OS. Its so much better than previous builds. Increased stability, increased compatiblity, and speed. all i can say is wow! oh yeah. EZCD 5 Platinum finally works with this build.

It pretty much looks the same as 2428 and up. I recommend downloading it. Its way fast, super stable and compatible with alot more hardware/software.

Flawless and Aureal go together as good as stable and WindowME go together. But, because i'm not an a$$hole who leaves useless posts, beta2 is suppose to have better support for aureal based cards than it did in previous builds.

Need beta2? just goto #windowsxp on efnet and i'm sure someone will DCC it to you. (only do this if your an official beta tester )

Ok, I don't know if its outta boredom or lack of sleep but I was browsing around in the whistler directory and came across some weird stuff... in windows\system directory there are two strange "outta place" files. The first is the Setup.inf file, upon opening it I found many references to Windows 3.1. Next, is the SPBANNER.wmf... upon opening this you will find its a Windows ME Seperator print test page. This information is of no relevance. Just though you fellow computer geeks might find this a little interesting.

Kde 2 is by far the best GUI for linux yet. Integrated HTML, MAC OS style menu bar, translucent windows, opengl support and better multimedia support, and incredible speed. RPM's seem alot easier to use... they act almost like the Macintosh BIN installers. Best for gaming, i'd go with redhat 7.1beta mainly because nvidia's display drivers install without much mucking around. Networking, well, it doesn't matter what distro you are using to network as long as you are running KDE 2.x it'll be easy. Improvements i'd like to see, shockwave support, Internet Explorer for Linux, DriectX emulation, Full SB Live! support.

You don't need to know how to use linux. Everything is menu driven. All you need is a 386, 12mb of ram and two 100% NE2000 compatible network cards. The whole program runs off the floppy and loads into ram. This router is UNHACKABLE.

Check two things... mobo and possibly even ram. Those poopy AMD k6 have been known to cause problems.

Yeah, the new redhat beta now ships with KDE 2.1 and the new 2.4 kernel. One thing i;ve noticed is that redhat seems to support my sblive! better. With mandrake there was a lot of background hissing and i got this weird noise everytime i moved my mouse.
