Windows Whistler to be Windows XP.

first of all, there are two ways to interpret "XP" and this'll make the name have more sense 1) XP = eXPerienced (that's Microsoft rumored gimmick for it) 2) XP = Cross Platform, where X means Cross. and the whole Whistler/.NET idea is based on cross platforming as well as others. Take it for what it is, but really, you can't judge a book by it's cover (or in this case, it's title). It's only a title. They made Win2k, because they wanted a stable NT beyond NT4's capabilities, they got that. Now to use it to help out the other 90 % of the home users that use 9x. The next OS (blackcomb supposedly) will not be around for a while, like, 2004/2005 is my guess for final date. [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 05 February 2001).]

Burnig a Cd with Whistler !!

this is what it was in previous builds, I don't know about 2419 1) Right click on the file(s) goto Send To, then Writable CD. 2) Goto My Computer, right click on your burner and choose Write or something similar to that Also, only use Windows 2000 drivers, unless they are WDM, then you can use either driver

Burnig a Cd with Whistler !!

works fine here, never tried with 2419. Works better for me than 3rd party crap, except when I'm doing PSX CD's

    Final release date?

haha, Feb 2002?? Andrew, your nuts buddy. If it takes them that long, that's great, more time to fix stuff. But Feb 2002 is pushing it, I doubt it very much.

Whistler 2416/2419 and VIA probs again ? Fliquering and cras

once again, VIA has problems again. Nothing you can do to fix it though I don't think, so wait for Beta 2, that's all you can do. And remember it's a beta..

    Voodoo5 and 2416

yeah..doesn't happen to all, I think it's a mix of chipsets with video cards. I don't know though
  15. there are games that require a swap file no matter what, you should never 0 the swap file or do anything like that.

    Whistler runs choppy

well...2296 is like months old, most of your problems have already been addressed in 2419. Install Beta 2, you'll most likely see results. Don't bother turning off any apperance features, the themes do not really make up the loss of RAM, it's the memory hole being addressed that is doing it. 512 MB of RAM, you should have it all on, lol [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 30 January 2001).]
  18. well, 128 + is good enough. 128 works for me, I have 256 now, only cause it was given to me

Whistler 2419?? does it exist, and it is out alreayd?

ok, but the point is, you post it almost as if everyone agrees and everyone is using your configuration. It varies greatly. RTM of Windows 2000 was great, RTM of Whistler will be too. The whole point is that it's a beta. 2416 doesn't seem like an alpha, so I don't know where your getting at. I mean, the last release of Windows 2000 before RC1, I can't remember which that was, on my system, it was good to run as a primary OS by then. It takes time and it probably won't be very good for most until RC1 of Whistler. But I have heard from many that they are moving to it as their primary OS when Beta 2 comes out. The point is...BETA!!!!!!!!!! not finished product

Whistler 2419?? does it exist, and it is out alreayd?

    1) I am a legit tester, and in the newsgroups, we have reported bugs, but nothing like your saying with 2410 or 2416, but we received a bit with 2419 2) anybody in their right mind would say that 24xx is better than 2296 unless you have serious problems. 3) It's a beta and nobody is forcing you to install it 4) Your computer configuration either sucks or isn't well supported with Whistler yet 5) 98 Support will not fail, it's just the same as Windows 2000 with the QFixApps thing, only better and that never failed 6) That's right, you can wait for Beta 2. So why did you bother posting this useless flame fest about it? 7) I've never seen someone have so many problems with it before. Your the first, so maybe it's your computer or maybe it's you? 8) It will NOT be delayed, I am a tester, they post schedules in the newsgroups. Of course it isn't going to be a April RTM, but they are working on a June or July RTM. 9) Give them a break already, you can't have it your way, right away, this isn't Burger King and like all things, they are not perfect. (except when it's done, it'll be the most important Windows release since Windows 95) Anyways, waste of my time even posting this, but someone had to say it. Whew..i'm done [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 30 January 2001).]

    Inefficient Whistler Coding

ok, how many times do I have to say this..it's like anything else, it gets all thrown together, then smoothed off at the end. The memory usage has nothing to do with any of the themes or additional things, it has to do with a memory leak in which I submitted, they told me to be on the lookout for it in the future and they'll get it fixed up, but to keep informing their chief producer in charge of this. Now, I have used 2416 with 128 and 256 MB RAM. Both of them run it very good. The memory leak makes up for more than half of the usage. It's still worth it to have over Windows 2000 anyday anyways. I think I'll move to it for good when Beta 2 is out. But, like I said, it all gets thrown together and the optimization, bug wipeout and stuff gets done in the Release Canadiates. And remember, it's a beta. [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 30 January 2001).]
