I'm running Windows XP Professional at home here and I've ran in to a problem. When connecting to ebay's website and trying to use the "Sign In" link, it just goes to "page not displayed" and doesn't work. I've asked others to try to see if it works, users with XP and with other OS' and they all have said it works. I've tried changing many of the security settings, etc. but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The address is: http://signin.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn It just says "Cannot find DNS" or whatever when you connect. I've already tried turning everything on, putting everything to enable or minimum and nothing. That ip address is: 66.135.194.112 (with and without the /aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn added to the back of the ip address) which i've tried and nothing.

You guys do realize that show is a parody and joke driven telecast right? There are Americans shows that do the same thing, except to other countries. Take a pill.

I posted a topic a few days ago asking how to do this, well I finally figured it out. If you want to enabled Advanced BIOS features on 7VAX motherboard such as CAS Latency and S.M.A.R.T. and many more. When you are in the BIOS main menu, do a CTRL+F1 and then all the new stuff will be enabled. Bye now

Quote: Quote: Seagate's SATA blows. Maxtor's SATA is getting better. I can agree with that only. LOL... well, I wouldn't say it "Blows", it's just not as good (ok, it is pretty bad, BUT remember: It was round #1... everyone else took the ball from there & ran w/ it and probably tore it apart & improved on it... especially WD with their upcoming "raptor" (more on that later)). Funniest part is, I just watched one HELL of a flick called that, "BLOW" w/ Johnny Depp, Ray Liotta, & Penelope Cruz... see it (sort of a side note, but ironic you said that!). ANYHOW, BACK ON TRACK: Maxtor's IS getting better, & currently IS the best SATA I have seen tested, but I would like to see it up against WD's "Raptor" SATA @ 10,000rpm revolution rating... On Maxtor, so far given reviews we can see @ least? Yes, we can agree on that much given those reviews... it's fairly impressive! (Anything that can put the kibosh on my disks here by that much, has my respect... it'll be amazing when SATA comes full-circle & the mobo busses & I/O circuits match it's theoretically possible iirc, 600mb/sec. transferral rates!) * That's more than my CENATEK RocketDrive can pull off, & what I am wondering is, what the seektimes will be? See, this area (seektime which to me = loading speed of data & programs) is where this CENATEK RocketDrive, rules... Its avg. seektime latency is nearly nil (especially compared to hdd's). BUT, the burst transferral rates on SATA @ least on paper on the theoretical high-end is amazing! And, funny part? Here I was thinking HDD technology had hit its limits... Now, what I mentioned above: The WD Raptor is SATA & is 10,000 rpm (in case you did not know) & it has seektimes up there (rather, "down there") nearing the Seagate Cheetah X15 15,000 rpm UltraScSi-160/320 drive (which is @ 4.5ms iirc) & the WD Raptor is @ 5.2ms... FAST! Quote: However, I can tell you that for the casual user, they won't notice a difference. Maybe... maybe not! I remember going from 5400rpm IDE disks of PIO Mode 4 to UltraScSi-III disks @ 10,000rpm & saying "WoW!!!"... I noticed the difference, especially on NT4 (which is when I did this change) bigtime. NT based Os' originally were built & optimized for ScSi type operations & it showed thru largely in my experience. Quote: For the price difference, it's not worth it right now. Give it 6 months and then go for it. You may be right... BUT, I think you guys are missing my point here... I am not saying "GO OUT & BUY NOW!!!", heck, by no means! What I'm saying is that I figured you guys might be rather impressed by this Maxtor 7,200rpm SATA unit, & now that I clued you in on the WD "Raptor" SATA 10,000rpm unit, that it might make you guys start wondering (I did a post on that one a few weeks back too) like myself this: "How nice is that Raptor 10,000rpm SATA from WD going to be, especially since this Maxtor SATA @ 7,200rpm has done so nicely?" (Some food for thought really... a "check it out" post!) Quote: Never grab a "1st Release" of anything, always wait for it to be out for a while, incase a "2nd Release" comes out. Yes, I agree! Again though, I think you guys are missing my point here... I was not trying to make a sale for Maxtor, lol... it was more for you techno freaks to take a peek @ & wonder about this stuff... especially since this one made a NICE showing, & the 10,000rpm WD "raptor" I mention above is coming soon too! Quote: I'm just warning those who "marked" out by seeing how oh so good it is. I don't understand... what is "marked out" mean? (You went over my head... maybe this is "young folks slang speak" that I am just not up on... ) * FILL ME IN!!! lol... APK Marked out is when a user gets all excited and happy over a product without really understanding the pros, cons , facts and fiction. Those who do understand all of that are called "smarts". There are "marks" and "smarts" in almost every aspect of the world.

For Windows, try SiSoft Sandra 2003 -

It's not that much faster. I've read over 12 reviews on SATA and my friend has a SATA drive. Benchmarks show that SATA is not worth it. In SOME benchmarks, it's faster, but not by much.
-
at this stage, SATA is no faster than IDE. Accompanied with a small warranty on a brand new "experimental" item such as a SATA hard drive, it just isn't worth getting my hands in to. P.S.: Serial ATA can only have one device hooked up to it. Bad.
-
Because in SOME cases, it gives control to the operating system to set up IRQs and what have you. ACPI is suppose to fix up most of the IRQ conflicts and what not, but once you enable "PNP OS Installed", you kind of defeat the purpose. Let the BIOS assign the IRQs properly. P.S.: I have it enabled right now with no problems, just because I wanted to see what it did and it changed nothing. However, I will most likely have that disabled on my A7N8X board when it arrives.

Quote: Well, thanks for the info jdulmage. Any idea if I can connect ATAPI devices to this RAID controller? I'm guessing the anwer is no, but please humor me =] I can not humor you in that way

Here's the scoop. I've got a Gigabyte 7VAX board here and have a Western Digital 20 GB drive and a Quantum Fireball 30 GB drive with ATA 133 Cables on both of them. With latest bios updates and all, I can't seem to get S.M.A.R.T. to enable itself. There isn't a setting in the bios that I haven't missed, because I know which one it is and that isn't fixing it. Both drives support it, because they worked on my old board. So I decided to take out a Maxtor drive and ATA 133 cable from a computer that I know works fine with S.M.A.R.T. and it didn't even work, so it's boiled down to the motherboard. What exactly could be the problem that would cause S.M.A.R.T. to be stuck "Disabled"?? Thanks for any help P.S.: If anyone knows of an Acoustic Management program for a Quantum Firewall (Maxtors doesn't seem to work), could you give me a link please Thanks again

Depends on the capabilities. It would defintely not bog the resources as much and you would most likely get a better performance. But if you are using them as extra IDE channels, you have to remember it comes at a price considering those "extra" channels were meant to be used as RAID devices. Good luck to you.

Quote: Anywhere near Pearl City? Apparently it's on some sort of penninsular about a mile from Pearl Harbour, or so my friend tells me, apparently that's where he is. "he" who? Saddam??

Quote: Quote: I just want to ask for your prayers and thoughts for all those who are fighting now. Agreed! You have them... & from me, there's a reason why much like your own... Quote: GOt some friends there now , hope they make it back safe. I have a "little brother" there now, my brother John, who is a Lieutenant for the Army there now @ Camp Pennsylvania (& has been there since day #1 pretty much almost) who is former USMC (moved forces once he found out his wife had baby on the way, better promo & pay in Army vs. Marines) who is there as a firecontrolman! (He uses computers EXTENSIVELY for his job, & from whom I got the "low-down" on the Unix vs. Windows 98 debate there for sure from him & I agreed with him, the Unix based stuff would be more stable than 9x stuff that Raytheon built on... THAT BUGGED ME TO NO END!) I mean... Were I @ MS & in charge, I would have donated copies/licenses to the armed forces of Windows NT or 2000 to use, ESPECIALLY in the field where our young folks' lives are on the line out there in REALLY TRULY life & death situations! APK P.S.=> In any event, I think about him being there... he's one tough character both mentally & physically and if he is indicative of our servicemen, no one could beat us, no one (I say that with TOTAL confidence in fact)! The funny part is? He tells me compared to most Marines he is a runt, that is hilarious, Jean Claude VanDamme must be a runt compared to them also then... Still, I hope it is over fast & the world can get back on track! apk No offense, but you took the parent comment and tried to spark a computer debate from it? "How?" may I ask you manage to rant off like that when all he asked was for prayers for the war in Iraq. I really hope you did take his post seriously. Safe journey and hope for all.

Didn't mention what RAID mode, but none the less, the problem lay in the hard drives themselves. Mixing a 20 GB with a 120 GB with a 40 GB with different brands and different ATA capabilities is really a "no-no" when you do RAIDs of any kind in my opinion. If you want performance, try to stay not so much brands, but try to stay within the same HD drive limits (2 x 120 GB drives for example)

Hansol has offered me the best monitors in my entire computer lifetime. I've had names like Daytek, NEC, Samsung, Sony, etc. and none of them have proven to be as reliable and of good quality like a Hansol monitor. I won't buy anything else now.

Just a quick question... I am getting the A7N8X Deluxe board soon and I know it has Dual Lan. Is it better to use the onboard LAN or to buy a seperate card for it? I was just curious if that would increase the speed and flowthrough in any way? If so, what cards do you guys recommend? I was thinking 3Com Etherlink XL. But if it won't make a difference, I won't spend the extra $$$ Thanks guys.
-
A7N8X Deluxe is without a doubt the BEST amd board on the market today. It has nForce 2 chipset, dualDDR capabilities, Serial ATA, USB 2.0, the best onboard APU on the market, 8x AGP, and the capability of handling 3000+ Barton cores and highly beyond. To get anything else would be stupidity
-
agreed, DDR works very well to interact with the video card and motherboard subsystems. And remember when buying DDR, go straight for the max. So if 333 Mhz is the highest you can get, then do it.

I don't know if you guys can answer this, I tried a D2 forum, but they don't know a thing. Sometimes I am running Diablo II and get an error, whatever, it doesn't matter what error really, so it crashes Diablo II, when I try to log back in and use B.net, it says "CD-key already in use by <name here>" <---which is obviously me, but i'm not on there! I do CTRL/ALT/DEL only to find the D2 process that was suppose to have been killed when it crashed still running!! Anyone know how I can prevent this from happening?
-
lol, it isn't a bug in diablo II, because nobody else I know has experienced this. Secondly, if I didn't have the latest patch installed, I couldn't use b.net now could I? i'll figure it out

I hooked up a GA-7VAX board the other day with an AMD XP 2200+ When I boot it up, nothing displays, nothing runs, just the motherboard and cpu fans, as well as the power supply fan. It runs like this for 3 seconds, then it shuts itself off. I am thinking it is the processor, and that it is bad. But what do you think? I've tried removing some RAM, all RAM, all components, etc. but nothing as worked so far. When I take out the processor and try to run it, the power supply does run past the 3 seconds, so I know that it isn't that. Any thoughts?
