Just heard from someone that in the news it says that 3Dfx is calling it quits, they will only make chipsets for other companies now. 3dfx changes direction ? [Comments] by Thomas McGuire @ 14:33 Apparently they are. No more manufacturing there on graphics card soon. LAS VEGAS (CNNfn) - Two years after striking out in a new direction, graphics-chip maker 3dfx is going back to its roots in an attempt to regain the company's dwindling strength in an increasingly tight market. The company plans to close its Juarez, Mexico, card manufacturing plant & remove itself from the business of building the graphics cards that reside in desktop PCs. This is an abrupt switch from the December 1998 takeover of STB Systems, which 3dfx heralded as a move that would put them in charge of their own destiny. Instead, that move -- combined with numerous production delays & supply problems -- has removed the company from its once-dominant position in the industry. My input on this: Good, 3Dfx didn't stand a chance against Nvidia anyways. Goodbye!!!!

There is a Partition Magic 6 now, which is compatible with 2000 and Millennium.

IE 5.5, hell 5.6 is better than NS6. They shouldn't have gave it to AOL, every damn window has something saying "buy this and that from netscape" and "such and such AOL"...it's like nothing but a window full of advertising. All I want is a browser, not a browser, e-mail checker, composer, etc. etc. etc. I mean, IE 6 looks nice by the screenshots, compared to NS6 as well. IE 5.5 seems to be perfect. I got one crash since May, and that was in when it was a beta in Millennium. [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 19 November 2000).]

Dx8 and 7.17 = fine here. Ran it on millennium, 2000 and whistler. And B's Gate 2 runs fine with Dx8.. [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 19 November 2000).]

err...when they start to close places, that means they are basically trying to survive a losing battle. Also, yeah, what is so funny about Nvidia Crush? [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 19 November 2000).]

I don't know what Gamespy is, I guess it's a game or something. If it's game, you may be in luck, try right clicking on the file that executes the program, goto properities, check off "Run in emulation mode" and choose "Windows 95" from the dropdown box. Then give that a whirl.
-
it's in there. I remember when it didn't have it, that caused me to have to redownload it, reinstall it, then it worked and the startup screens and what not, those came back.

but Stockwell Day better win, because the rest of them suck and Jean is getting way too old and he is starting to slip under the ice. [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 19 November 2000).]

can you feel the love here? LOL!

VESA? lol... oh well, gotta make a few phone calls...

I recall nEMU running fine in Whistler once. nEMU obviously emulates N64
-
yeah, your right... I'm backing off... Here is what I want to see in Beta 2: The removal of IE 5.6, and the addition of IE 6 beta in it's place The finished DX8 (duh) The ability to be able to install Whistler, win2k and win9x drivers to whistler with full functionality. MORE COMPATIBILITY. The compatibility is good now, but more more more, lol And the obvious bugs fixed that people found. That's all.

and once again, I threw out the meat, he ran for it. This is exactly how I got that big post in the Other section going. I just kept doing this and you kept coming back for more meat, it's funny....and I guess pr-man fell for it too. [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 18 November 2000).]

*snicker*.. this has turned into a non-facts war. I love when people complain or say bad things when a product isn't close to being done. Throw them the meat, watch them run right for it..
-
pr-man is right...lol now for DosFreak, you list a lot of problems that people have when they run it on a crappy system, slow? never slow here. Problems? not a problem here....100 M RAM eaten? get a life...but like I have said before, you gonna complain about it, don't install it. end of story. Err and I may as well add in, it's like saying i'll stay with Windows 3.11 because I don't like the start menu in 95. they are very childish complaints about the OS. It's like saying, take out the help sections, nobody needs them. [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 18 November 2000).]

Takes forever to shutdown: Because they are watching themselves, remember with windows me where if your computer shut off faster than the cache could be saved to the drive or something like that, it could crash, cause errors and also because it's safer to shut down slower, trust me, gives Windows time to clean up the mess. System Restore: Stupid? What are you smoking? That's another thing that is beautiful, stops some of the users from *****ing when their system screws up and happens to be a very smart thing to have in there. with win2k drivers...... Whistler = Win2k = not true. If your going to install Win2k drivers to Whistler, than expect some problems, don't ***** about it Eats RAM Really? New GUI, doing many changes of 9x and NT to it....hmm, common sense buddy. Slow response when reading CD Not here it doesn't and not on my friend's machine, your CD-rom must suck or something. Slow ass help from WinMe? Use the compatibility mode shortcut thing that appears on your desktop, it's better than the slow ass winme thing. I understand SHS, believe me, that makes perfect sense. Except that somebody I know is running Whistler right now on 64 MB RAM, 233 Mhz, 8.4 GB drive, 8 MB Video Card. It's running smooth as any other OS he has ran. So those system requirements may be a little crazy for some, but perfect for others. *snicker*... now there's an example of something that is going down before it even got up.

see Down8 is nice to you....recognize that

well never set your resolution to 32-bit, I recall a few games that were very slow, and choppy in 32-bit, but they were fine in 16-bit. This sounds stupid, but I may as well say it. Get the latest bios for your motherboard. http://www.asus.com/cgi-bin/dl.asp?filename=mb/socka/kt133/a7v/a7v1004c.zip Get the latest SBLive drivers for your sound card. http://www.clok.creaf.com/creative/drivers/sbpci/lw3drv.exe Latest Display Drivers, even if you have to get beta ones. And lastly, put DX8 on. That's about all I can say, is update, update, update. [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 18 November 2000).]

oh really? I have OSR2 installed on my other machine and I winnuked it very fast. But anyways, I don't care, i'm moving to .NET, and leaving this crap behind me, lol
-
Windows 95 eh? go ahead, run it, i'll be able to WinNuke you, crash you, attack port 139, all remotely because the security sucks. Then while your at it, run a server, watch it crash in 48 days or whatever it is from non-stop running. Not to mention that there is nothing in it, it's just Windows 3.11 with a new GUI slapped on top of it. I use it on my 486, that's about it.

Win2k Pro and Games: Still lower performance than win9x?
jdulmage replied to pr-man's topic in Games
i'm adding my two cents in because I don't like David... buddy, how does an operating system that has excellent memory handling, works well with your hardware, when patches installed and you have a good video card and 99 % of the games run on it fine, so how can it suck for games? look at Whistler too, I suppose he'll start to say that Windows Me is better than Whistler once Whistler is done, hell son, it's better than Windows Me right now. Watch out Microsoft, David may come to your door saying that his DOS games won't work in Whistler, so he ain't installing it... idiot.. edit Only good thing about 9x right now is the fact that I can enable Bass and Treble Settings, unfortunely has caused me to play games in 9x simply because NT will not enable the damn Bass and Treble for me, the 9x drivers do, the NT drivers don't. If that was fixed or if I found a fix for it, I would be removing WinMe and sticking with the one and only, Win2k, until Whistler... end edit [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 17 November 2000).] -
one thing sums it up "Gore is jealous" THE END

yeah, but my cousin runs it on 64 MB of RAM and it's still fast even with the GUI enchancments on. I think it'll start to handle RAM better anyways
