......oh great, here comes another war....I better not even comment, but I will.. As of 2001: Best OS for games: Whistler Personal without a shadow of a doubt. Best OS ofr business & stability: Can't say much for the stable side, Whistler is rock solid, and for those of you that are having problems with it, i'm sure that'll change. So really, any of the ones you listed would be fine, except 98SE and probably millennium too Business wise, get Whistler Professional or if you have to, stay with Win2k Professional. Whistler will be best used for home users that want the power and stability of NT combined with the compatibility, features, and such of 9x with new gui features, and major customization. In other words, something that most of us have wanted for awhile now. But above all, my choice for 2001, will be Whistler Personal and that is what i'm sticking to and that's what i'm getting when it's finished. I agree, 6 months is a long time, if you plan to keep the beta for 6 months, well then, simply, there is no hope for you. Not only that, but if you have 2276, it doesn't expire until 4/10/2001

try getting DX8 and up[censored] those drivers to either 6.47 or jump to 7.17 (those are the DX8 drivers I guess)..
-
what was the filename in Windows Millennium for the splash screen, so that I can edit it. Thanks
-
nope, just logos.sys, but that's the shut down screen

went from Windows 2000 Professional to Whistler Professional 2296 without a problem, as long as ZoneAlarm is disabled if it's running, that's about the only thing I had to do.

for one thing, don't move the hard drive out, Windows 2000 has stored all of that information for your one computer in there, including any possible hard drive information. Take it from experience man, when I got a new mobo, I had to format and reinstall Windows again, because it's a lot safer than trying to have Windows detect all of your new stuff and remove the old.

I finally found the DX8 style Nvidia det drivers 7.17 for my card. I wanted to post the link for others. But I wasn't sure if beta drivers count as w4r3z or not... so I won't do it, and save myself an ass beating. If I can be corrected, I will post the link.

nah, if you wait a little past that ASR, you can press F5 to do the same **** of the ACPI
-
yep, WDM drivers work with mine, they work better with DX8, and yes DX8 does take full support, especially if you have the Nvidia DX8 beta drivers on, they worked like a charm for me.

haha...useless? yes. Useful? If I can post the link for people that want it. Plus, i'm bored as hell... [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 15 November 2000).]

why not try the 6.47 drivers?
-
is hard drive SCSI or IDE? If it's SCSI, you may have to press F5 or F6 during the installation when asked to. Somebody correct me, F5 or F6?? [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 15 November 2000).]

What is the difference between Whistler Professional and Per
jdulmage replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
well pr-man, as of now, yeah Personal runs games and multimedia better as far as my machine is concerned. I noticed a few games that didn't run in professional, but ran in personal. I can't remember which, I installed a lot of games. But Personal is defintely the home user OS. -
well I can't help you, but for the record, it works fine when I attempted it that way. I can't help you, but before anyone else tries to help you, it would be good to know what build you have as well as the flavor

I agree with Lord-Data. You wonder why the future doesn't agree with ISA, you wonder why operating systems today don't agree with ISA, is simply because ISA is old, gone, nil, nullified.
-
maybe i'll get it there...
-
yeah, I saw that a few days ago, kinda cool...
-
I agree.... let's call it a truce here

errr no offense....THC 129, I think that CrashNBurn is a newbies...lol.. j/k you have to switch to the i386 folder the same folder as whistler is in and run "winnt.exe"... example... C:\2296\i386\winnt.exe [This message has been edited by jdulmage (edited 08 November 2000).]

I hope this help...here we go.... I'm assuming that you want to remove Win2k, but keep Whistler... simply...in a DOS prompt, get to the main drive letter...we will use C:\ as the default drive.. Change to C:\, type in "attrib -s -h -r boot.ini" then type "edit boot.ini" remove the part in there that shows Windows 2000. Save it. Then type "attrib +s +h +r boot.ini". Make sure your doing all of this in Whistler. Then in Whistler, goto the directory that has Win2k in it, example is C:\winnt for 2000 and c:\windows for whistler. Remove the winnt directory...reboot the computer, everything should be fine after that. And yes, you can clean install. If your using FAT32, simply use a Windows 9x boot disk to get into DOS and install it through there off of your drive or off the CD. Hope this helps..

most likely, it's just a small gui glitch...
