Hi all, I just got the SB Xtreme Audio today and for the love of me, it will not install. I have tried a ton of things. I have the Asus P5B on Windows XP SP2. I uninstalled my old sound card, removed it from the PCI slot, installed the new card (it is a PCI-E sound card). I start up Windows, it detects the "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver For High Definition Audio" and some other unknown device called "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" (which I assume is the sound card). I have tried installing the drivers off of Creative's website, but as usual, their software is crap and says "No supported devices found". Yet, when I go to their autoupdate, it auto detects the sound card just fine. I can not use the drivers off the CD because of course that CD came damaged in shipment. I have already tried moving it to another PCI-E slot, to no avail. I have already tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers to no avail. My last option is to either find someone here who knows how to fix it, or format/reinstall Windows and start over. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Thanks, I'll fish around on Asus website.

How many processes do you have running?

Hey all. I've been having a problem with my internet recently. It is an interesting thing relating to the speed. I'll be surfing websites, they'll load fast, all of a sudden, I'll click a link and it will just sit there loading. I'll check IRC, MSN and my downloads and they'll be at the regular speed, but the websites won't load. I end up having to wait 5-10 minutes, then hitting "Refresh" and then they load. Changed NICs, still happening. This is a cable modem, so I was curious if it's at all possible that the cable line going to the modem has a problem or if this is related to the operating system or not. I am using Windows XP SP2 with latest Internet Explorer. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Yeah, I already did everything on the computer side to fix the problem, sounds like a connection issue. I'll try a few other things, then I'll give the ISP a call. (I hate dealing with them, so try and fix it myself) Thanks

Has this exceeded my "I don't mean to piss everyone off..." post from back in 2000? LOL.

I would say to just reinstall the damn thing, if that doesn't work, you may have lost some core files in windows that are needed.

I've been having a discussion with a few folks and we haven't been able to come to a clear understanding. So I'll ask some expert panelists for feedback on this. A7N8X comes with an Nvidia APU which is superb (probably best onboard sound out there), but I was thinking of getting an Audigy sound card. I have been told by a few that the onboard apu on this board is way better than the Audigy sound card. I have no reason to buy an Audigy card if this is the case, so I ask you people here (perferably ones with A7N8X) if you have been able to compare these and come to a conclusion or at least a half-conclusion. Thanks in advance.

I am thinking about moving towards water cooling for these hot summers and for overclocking purposes. Can anyone recommend to me a cheap, yet effective water solution. I was looking at Aquarius 2 by ThermalTake, but soon came to the conclusion that it sucks. I was also looking at SWIFTECH H20-8501P WATER COOLING KIT FOR S478, but haven't been able to find any reviews on it. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks

Ah AlecStaar my old chap, thanks for your information.

I've known you on this forum for years now...all I can say is "I'm sorry".

Here's a new and exciting problem with my onboard NIC. I have the P4P800 board by Asus flashed to the 1008 revision bios, Windows XP SP1 and all drivers updated. Even AFTER formatting and reinstalling Windows XP, I still get: "404 Error: Page not Found" when trying to view certain pages on the internet, however, when I switch to my secondary NIC (PCI Slot), it works 100% fine. What exactly is going on? Is it a setting I may have wrong somewhere? I have even tried selecting "Automatically detect settings" in the LAN settings in IE, and I have also tried other browsers such as Netscape and Opera, both give me the same error. Any help would be great.

Thought some of you may like this game, addicting, it's building up nicely, people making clans and everything is coming along nicely. Best of all, it's currently being built, so new things are coming along each week. http://www.overlordslegacy.com/signup.php?refer=Kaos Sign up today. Please refer me, least you can do, after the "I don't mean to piss everyone off post" back from Oct 2000, haha.

I just finished saying that I slapped in the RealTek days to go to SEE IF IT WAS THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS. In other words, I was having the problem with the 3com onboard and I put in the RealTek to test and see if the onboard NIC was the problem. Therefore, it has nothing to do with the RealTek NIC
-
The secondary PCI NIC is a RealTek, the onboard is a 3Com. I have the 3com one disabled right now, i just slapped in the RealTek one a couple of days ago to see if that was the problem, and it was. I've tried formatting and reinstalling windows, i've tried changing the settings, nothing is working, but i'll look in to it later on. Thanks for the help.

tried that already....and I don't have a switch. I'm thinking the onboard NIC has gone all to hell, because it was working fine, then the next day, it wasn't.

What is the difference between 64x64 and 64x72 RAM? What's the point in those things? Anyone have a clue Thanks

Intel 3.06Ghz 800Mhz FSB HyperThreaded CPU: Good read!
jdulmage replied to sapiens74's topic in Hardware
As to not start a war or anything.. the specs in my signature (I haven't bothered changing them yet) show an AMD Barton 3000+ system, only after a month did I ditch it and am now awaiting my Intel setup. I thus far have received the OCZ Dual Channel RAM, the Zalman 7000 HSF and the P4P800 board...waiting for the processor, 2.8 "C" P4 (great! lol). After just fooling with the P4P800 board itself, I will NEVER go back to AMD again. I mean, the i865PE chipset on the p4p800 is ready for Prescott (so i'm prepared for Intel's next chip design), and thanks to Asus, you can enable the so called "only in i875 chipsets" PAT feature, which is now 100% available on i865PE chipsets called HyperPath or "Memory Performance Mode" double the FSB, 700 Mhz more clock, and HyperThreading and now HyperPath technology....no thanks AMD, I'm staying with Intel. -
Whenever I use gpedit.msc to view the listings, it only shows one thing, and that is under Local Computer Policy ---> Computer Config --> Admin Templates --> all i see is just one folder: windows components...the rest are not showing. I tried to add a snap-in using mmc, but that still isn't fixing the problem. Can anyone help me? thanks

New nForce 2.14 WHQL Drivers released

Quote: I'm running them here, nothing seems out of place, even my Radeon 9500 Pro works fine. I'm having a couple of issues though, such as not being able to boot an OS with my RAM (cheap DDR333) set to 166Mhz and not being able to install Windows XP from a slipstreamed SP1 disc (and only barely being able to install it from a non slipstreamed disc) but these aren't related to the drivers. Word of advice...crappy RAM will run crappy. I have Samsung 512MB DDR 333 and I have to run it at 266 Mhz for it to work. I'm buying Mushkin Nvidia pulled the new drivers for some reason, dunno why. -
The topic says it all, but basically I have a Vantec Aeroflow and at 100% load, it runs at 47 degrees celcius, that is far too much for me, because in my city, during the months of June to August, it gets up to 40+ degrees celcius outside, and even hotter in here. Anyways, I am curious if anyone has seen any good CPU coolers that would give me say 40 degrees at 100% load or so, and not water cooling, I am not about to venture in to that. Thanks
