DOS command "LOCK" What does it do?

It locks a drive for direct disk access. Windows will not be able to protect long filenames with the disk locked. Its for apps which require exclusive access to files. Use unlock to unlock (simple eh!) Regards Kristian Dorey AMIAP CNA CWD

    Making a domain

It might as well, CNA certification doesn't seem to warrant the pay these days.. Im going for IBM certified spe[censored]t (in AIX (unix) and hardware (SMP,SP parallel processing). The CWD (certified Winsock developer) only helps with my SM200D Satellite card (2Mb/s connection .. 1MB in 4 seconds!!..) Making a domain

You must have NT4/Win2k Server or above to be able to create a PDC (Primary Domain Controller).. Once you have created this, just add the computers/users from the network settings in control panel. Win2k Pro and Win98/ME cannot create domain AFAIK Regards Kristian Dorey AMIAP CNA CWD

    Apcompat.exe

I was not labelling waldo as anything. I did not realise Ms had moved acompat to the msdn. I was just pointing out the *reason* MS gave me as to why they removed it in the first place. Some Dell recovery CD's did not come with the Support Directory.. So even I had problems.Since they had removed the link I had to contact MS.. Apologies for any confusion caused. Regards Kristian Dorey AMIAP CNA CWD

    Apcompat.exe

Ring MS, they will help you. Incidentally, a lot of the ***** versions did not come with apcompat, MS did have a link on their website but I think they removed it due to all the ***** kiddies downloading it. Regards Kristian Dorey AMIAP CNA CWD

    Games under terminal services

The simple answer is .. don't.. The reason citrix and TS work so well is due to the ICA compression. However the drawback is that due to .bmp and the such not compressing well, any games played would be incredibly slow.. Trust me, Ive tried.. ------------------ Regards Kristian Dorey AMIAP

Upgraded my computer... I think. :/

I recently built a new machine and experienced this problem. I had mixed up the system connection pins. As a result not only would the system not POST, but the machine would power on with just a PSU switch on. Check those cables ------------------ Regards Kristian Dorey AMIAP

Windows 2000 reports formatted drive as unformatted

Not quite the same but... I had this after formatting a partition (1GB) for the pagefile to reside on. The format finished. I rebooted and Win2k could not access the drive at all.. I just reformatted. Worked okay second time. Maybe Win2k has a problem up[censored] the vtoc sometimes? BTW: This was without SP1. It could be fixed . ------------------ Regards Kristian Dorey AMIAP [This message has been edited by krisdorey (edited 28 October 2000).]
