Ok, there is a way to set the memory dump file to either 64kb, Kernel or to none instead of having the default setting (currently sucking up like 256MB of my HD... 1) How safe is it to change this option? 2) What is the best option to choose? 3) What will happen if I delete the file? (think I've done this before and nothing went bad then...) 4) What is the full file for? Can I browse the content in anyway, or is it just computer stuff that wont make any sense? 5) Is there a similarity/connection between this Mem dump and the Pagefile?

Thanks Ben. Memdump is now set to "none".

Hej Ben! No, as far as I know there isn't any real consearns to why I'm using 4GB. It's oly the fact that I want as little as possible to be on the same partition as my OS. I usually do a whipe every 2-3 months because I experiment alot so I don't want all too many things lost in that process. Thus I keep small programs in the "program files" directory on the system partition and bigger stuff like Photoshop (wich you should not have on the same partition/drive as the OS anyways since that slows down the processes) and 3DS Max and such on another part. Or better yet another drive. But I'm likewise curious of why you use 10GB what is your purpouse? Have I missed a great issue? Am I Maybe too scarce in devoting space to my OS? (The HDs are really cheap hese days, so maybe I should give XP some more room?) PS. Followed some advice given by others here and made a new partition (that I later hid using tweak XP) for the page file. I think this is a really good solution and it doesn't ake the system part. so fragented. DS

Or you could simply format the C: and use it for storage/later OS and everything will be as noral? right? I have XP on D: after a similar thing... (Whistler f-upped my system). Or, since you prolly have been thinkin' of clearing out the old anyways... Do a complete format of both C and D Smack'em together (dont use more than 6Gb tops for running any MS based OS (I'm using 4GB for XP) partition the drive into a 4-6GB boot partition and use the remainder to have D: for fun and games and storage, and and...

Hmm... can't really say I understand the problem. But, have you tried logging in to the admin account (or has your user maybe admin clearence?) and configure the different user accounts? Surely you must be able to move the info frome one dir to another? Is your only probb that a new user has been created? then just close that user account. I might have misunderstood you completely, and if so, then please clarify the problem for me.

Yes, NTFS and Fat can be networked.. It it still the NTFS computer doing all the reading from the HD so now problem there... A Q for you... Why did you want to change back to FAT? I have never had any probbs using NTFS, and ppl tell me it it better?!?

Ok, that topic is way clouded right? Check this, I Had Win2K installed. I had another partition, where I installed a copy of Whistler (way back in like april or something) Now, my win2k crashed because of whistler (don't ask me how?!?! At startup 2K wanted some files from whistler that it couldn't find and it just hung. Whistler worked fine though) And when I got RC1 of XP I formatted my Whistler and installed RC1 there and got rid of the Win 2k HD altogether (old 6GB drive) After this install i had the whistler option at startup along with the XP wich is weird since the whistler is formatted and gone for good. As I got RC2 i just upgraded to that, but when I got Final, I formatted again and did a clean install. Now I still have the whistler option available (of course Nothing starts if i where to choose it, and i have also disabled the options from the properties for startup so that XP starts immedietly, so that is not a prob) But check out the Boot.ini: [boot loader] timeout=0 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Whistler Professional" /fastdetect that is weird... can i just delete the whistler line without any probbs?

Hi guys... As i have been reading a bit in this forum i have come to understand that there are quite a few really talented ppl here. And there are also a lot of not so talented ppl (like y self that really are greatful for the help that you guys bring us). This question that I have concerns the MCSE. Me and a friend are about to ebark on the journey of learning the insights of Microsoft products and becoming Certified Engeneers. Now, I've been looking around on some websites (like McMCSE, MCSE Directory, Microsofts own databese, etc. And there is a lot of information available, but you know how it is... Too many brands of cereals, and you just stand there infront of the shelf having trouble choosing, and end up eating bred for breakfast instead... So. If anyone of you guys want to recommend anything I am more than happy. A little bit about what I know maby good to say, so you know where I stand. I have learnt almoast everything about Win2K by myself or from friends. I can setup a LAN, I can hanlde Regedit a little and thats about it. So Im newbie in the big bussines. I was thinking of choosing TCP/IP aswell as something else (dunno what yet) as a supplement. And e and my friend are going to study at home (no $10000 course). What material do you guys think I should use? (books, CDs) Is there a forum that I should look in to maby? How many computers shall i use? (right now im planning on using 2 but maby 3 is better? I need 1 server and m,aby 2 clients?) Well anyone with a suggestion is welcome to participate in helping me find the best way, the best stuff to become a MCSE. And maby also a poll of how many ppl in this forum are MCSE? HAve a nice day and

Oops.. forgot something... About using eg. Norton commander instead of explorer. XP has built in support for a lot of things ie.: *MP3 playback *DivX playback *CD burning software (ok that pretty much suxx, but it's there) *with MSN Messenger -> Voice/video via internet *Remote assistance Just to name a few. And now that all these things are present. Will there be major copability issues using other software for these things? Like WinAmp. Is that nessesary now? will I only fill my HD for nothing by installing it? (that was only an example)

Man U sure know alot about DOS. Well i have the three installation discs of 6.22 lying next to me right now... But they are no good no that i have NTFS lol Anyhow, I liked DossHell ( ) too. I can even remember ppl using norton comander instead of explorer in win 95. Wich brings me to another subject: I live in sweden. And our native language is.... the 5 million dollar question.... YES swedish and so all the programs (or 90% atleast) are translated into swedish. This goes for the Oss as well. Now, I use an english/US only OS setting and all the programs that I install are in english. This I do because I have heard that maybe the translations can post a problem. I'm reffering to in-OS linking probbs, OS - program compability, program - program compability, ect. (all this is besides the fact that swedish is a really lame a** language that just looks plain silly) Do you think I'm overreacting in this matter? Or may this be the case? Can there be such issues? PS. I wont ever change to using a swedish OS and I will never recommend anyone to do it either! What better way to learn a language than read it all day every day?

I have a TNT 2 Ultra and i have never gotten more than 70fps in Q3 (Using 1024x768, full detail ad almoast everything on) This isn't very helpful, but now you are not alone having bad fps Maybe it's time for an upgrade to the latest detonator drivers?

Hiya! Well I know for sure that there was a program for this i Windows 2000 and that it worked. But and this is a really big BUT!!! I used it on my SCSI HD (3.2GB) and all was fine. But later on it started bugging out so i used partition magic have a look. And I got some really weird numbers... It said that it was 3 different partitions: 1: was a 400GB partition of unknown type 2: was 128 TB ( thats right folks Terra Bytes) of unpartitioned space 3: a 3.2 GB NTFS (the one i used) I couldn't forat the drive anymore after the change and it just became really cracked up... This drive is retired now Maby others had this kind of trouble and they decided not to put that progg. in with XP. That's all I can tell you...

And while you are at it, maby even throw in the /a for archive files, some of them wont show either... DiscOperatingSystem Rulez!!!

thx for all the good advice again. Another question is. I'm living in the now, and so I'm planning on learning Win 2000. (+ what ever XP stuff is being thrown at me) But many companies will still be using NT 4 (like ericsson where I work). *How much do I need to know about NT 4? Am I missing alot of really vital information in skipping NT 4? *How much has really changed between 2000 and XP? Ok, i know that it's not the sae, but the difference between NT 4 and 2000 must be biger that the one between 2000 and XP right? And I also want to say another thing. Knowing DOS and Batch language may not be something that the everyday user knows today. But I'm one of the happy guys that started using computers (PCs) when there was only DOS so that part is clean for me. Although, they have limited dos alot (ok, ok i know that it isn't dos but a mere cmd prompt) I mean, you can't use undelete. I liked that command. -I'm eager to learn!

In the system properties (under properties for my computer) click advanced and then advanced again on the new window, there you have some cache setings... and if you will you can talk to Alecstarr about his Ramdrive cacheing system. That seems fast enough.

(winXP) How to put built-in 'Administrator' account in the n
Manos replied to Wakane's topic in Software
I agree about not using administrator account. And besides, when entering safemode, you can access the Admin from there (For use if somethings gone wrong) -
Thx again. We (me and my friend) have decided that we will begin our studying after new years. So the time leading up to that date, I'm spending on getting as much info as possible, so I can get the ost out of it. And like you said, the really important part is what I want. Don't we all remember sitting in school just goofying around because tha lesson was so dull, and then endup getting really bad grades? You can't ofcourse always learn stuff that you find really intresting. But the importance in studying towards something that you really wanna become/work with is what matters. Like you said clutch. And I'd like to quote Carter from Spin City here (the episode where Charlie Sheen and the major had to work in a burger bar) "If you can imagine it, you can become it" (ok the guy he said it to said "but if I drop it I can eat it" and thats another story ) Thx again guys!

Isn't there an onboard Soundcard on the Motherboard that you are using? If it is, maby you should try that or lend a card from someone to really meke sure that it is the SB Live that is the real issue. I have also heard of ASUS MBs and SB Soundcards maby being a bad match... More that this I cant tell you... I hope you'll solve it! Regards Manos
