oh well...too lazy to mess around with it...downloading Mandrake 9.0 right now

well...i had thought i installed the latest drivers, but it seems i got the i386 glx instead of the i586, forgot about the kernel files too...so i grabbed that as well...installed both, restarted x and it messed up, had to go to console and reconfigure x, got it back up and edited the xfconfig file as stated in the readme, restarted x and only thing different is the Nvidia splash screen prior to starting x. man, it's been forever since i messed with linux, but some of it is coming back..guess i'll fiddle around some more with it later, 1:36am here..going to bed. :x x)

Well, looks like it's time to replace the Geforce 2MX, fan died on it and it just seems to be crapping out lately. What I want to know is how are the TV Outs on the GF3-4, ATI cards? The GF2MX was pretty crappy and wondering if it improved with the current versions. I read that SIS's Xabre had really nice tv-out. Well anyways, just looking for a cheap card and tv-out is the most important feature i'm looking for.

Quote: First: 3DMark sucks Second: What were the specs of the machines scoring 5000+? XP 2000 256DDR went and traded the MX in for a MSI GF3 Ti-200 Pure, got 4326 on 3DMark ;(
-
disregard this post, it double posted
-
ok, so what do you guys think, a Radeon 9000 Pro or a GF3 Ti200? Radeon is about $10 more than the GF3
-
yah well...all the reviews have it scoring 5000+ so it just seems awkward heh, even setting the bios to 'turbo' settings and overclocking the card 270 -> 330 MHz core, 400 -> 450MHz memory i only get 3703...damn i'm gonna take this card back and get a Geforce 3 Ti200 for an additional $23
-
hmm...i'm getting crappy scores on 3dmark, 3507 on default benchmark...is the bottleneck coming from my cpu/mem? 800mhz 384mb PC133 ? oh well...i'm gonna try and overclock the card
-
Welp...looked around and they were wanting too much for the Radeon 9000 pro, US$114, ended up getting a Chaintech G4MX 440 64M DDR for $65 + a Logitech Steering Wheel $35 heh...i think it was $100 well spent

Quote: I've got a fan from a GeForce 4 Ti4600 if you want it... $5 plus cost of shipping (that way if the card is not toast, you can resell it to get some of the cost of a new card)... Up to you, email me... should not cost you squat on shipcost, the thing is feather lite and works fine still! * APK Nah, I got an old cpu fan hooked up to it right now, heh...but the TV-Out is broke on it anyways so I still need a replacement card. Besides, kinda pointless to have it ship internationally when I can just go down the street and pick one up, afterall Leadtek is a local company, thanks anyways Quote: Hey m8 what Kind of T.V u using anyways? a regular old t.v? Yah, just an old 29" Mitsubishi (maybe over 5 yrs old) I don't care about the quality as in to actually work on it thru the tv, I'm just using it to watch movies on. Well, I'm about to head out and shop around...funny how things seems cheaper in the states than here even though they were all made here... ;(

lately i've been noticing slow downs on my d: drive and i checked the ide properties and noticed this: Device 0 : UDMA5 Device 1: PIO mode I have a Maxtor 15gig on Master and IBM 40gig on Slave for IDE 1. Reason I placed it on the same channel was cause that was the only one that has ATA100 while the other channel is regular ATA66. Should I just go ahead and place the IBM on IDE 2?
-
heh, uninstalled ide channel 1, rebooted, and now it's back to Ultra DMA Mode 5, probably the latest Via 4-in-1's screwed it up. Thanks

i don't understand, how is it the same as the automobile industry? we are talking about something completely different here, this is software vs. hardware, same goes for references towards the consoles. (ie, if a new pc game comes out, it's time to upgrade hardware, not software). not only ms, but i think the whole software industry in general are making more than they deserve, i can say they are like the music industry. it doesn't take US$100~200 to make a cd/box/manual....but it does take US$10,000~... to make a car.

hmm...have you considered HomePNA as an alternative? With around 20~30 pcs all wireless, i think it would exceed your budget.

Quote: I just couldn't resist. It would appear that Microsoft are not a Monopoly at all. Microsoft actually "flunk" some of the basic tests that make a monopoly, there are strict legal definitions of the word. Here is why MS are not a monopoly. Here is a good site that sheds some light on the case. Also, here under Article 1. Monopoly Power is where the courts ruled that Microsoft is indeed a monopoly: "The Court has already found, based on the evidence in this record, that there are currently no products - and that there are not likely to be any in the near future - that a significant percentage of computer users worldwide could substitute for Intel-compatible PC operating systems without incurring substantial costs. Findings ¶¶ 18-29. The Court has further found that no firm not currently marketing Intel-compatible PC operating systems could start doing so in a way that would, within a reasonably short period of time, present a significant percentage of such consumers with a viable alternative to existing Intel-compatible PC operating systems. Id. ¶¶ 18, 30-32. From these facts, the Court has inferred that if a single firm or cartel controlled the licensing of all Intel-compatible PC operating systems worldwide, it could set the price of a license substantially above that which would be charged in a competitive market - and leave the price there for a significant period of time - without losing so many customers as to make the action unprofitable. Id. ¶ 18. This inference, in turn, has led the Court to find that the licensing of all Intel-compatible PC operating systems worldwide does in fact constitute the relevant market in the context of the plaintiffs' monopoly maintenance claim. Id. "

i'm currently using cjb.net's dynamic dns service. i recently switched from cable to adsl, the new isp does not give out a static ip. the problem is the adsl connection seems to always gets dropped and xp will automatically reconnect, but it keeps giving me a new ip each time. i use the cjb dns updater but i still need to open it up manually and enter the new ip and have it updated. which is the delima. so does anybody out there have any ideas to get this done automatically? tia
