FedEx as they are rather fast and reliable for important shipments, DHL and TNT as they are cheaper and well, use them for the not so important stuff such as sending catalogs etc.... UPS pretty much sucks here in Taiwan, we've had some rather bad service from them, including the boss on the phone screaming at them. I work for an import/export firm so we deal alot with shipping.

yah, i got that running as a background service, that's exactly what i was looking for, thanks man :-) it updates the dns rather fast too, i disconnected my connection on purpose to test it out, it picked up that i lost my connection, picked up the new ip and had the new dns within 2 minutes, hehe

thanks guys, i called up the isp and ofcourse, they had that 180 degree attitude turn around once i got the service. well...they are supposed to send somebody over tommorrow to check the phone line, which i think is the main problem. man, they really got me p.o'd...saying that it's dynamic and they can't gurantee me an IP addy forever (being sarcastic and arrogant toned) i just replied...damn, i just want you to gurantee me the IP for a day! heh..oh well..2 year contract with them :-( <edit> just checked out no-ip looks good! i need it automated as my ip can change 5-10 times in just one day, no joke! so i really need it to be updated automatically while i'm not at home. thanks! </edit>

hmm...wouldn't he be using the PPPoE software that the router provides? hence the setup page? and as for changing the subnet, i don't think you need to do that, atleast I didn't have to change that in my setup. The only thing I can think of is for you to go to properties of your NIC and click on Advanced.. then in IP Settings under Default gateways, click on Add, then put the IP of the Linksys router. You are supposed to only change that for every computer you want access to the net if you are using DHCP. Try it and see if that works.

Quote: It will probably just end up being the same as Nutscrape Navigator 7, which doesn't really show any improvement over 6.2.x, & still has a bug where if you set the text size to 200% you still have to set it again everytime you reopen a Navigator window. Which is really annoying, considering the fact that that's the only reason I use Navigator - because some ppl STILL haven't grown out of the unbeleivably irritating habit of making websites using fixed sized fonts. If IE was able to enlarge those then I could lose Navigator for good, aside from when testing any web work I'd created. ie can enlarge fonts no? View->Text Size-> unless you are talking about something different

i would if i could, unfortunately they only offer 1-way cable in my new apartment building, that's why i settled for the more expensive adsl. i guess i'll just have to call the isp and work some thing out with them, but anyways, 1.5/384kbps is a rather nice connection.

Quote: Hi there Three, you seem to have a more balanced/mature attitude than some of the others here (especially that Sapiens74). That wouldn't be because he totally agrees with you would it? He shares your outlook on things so he must be correct and the people who think you are talking rubbish are wrong? Sounds very closed minded to me. First off, I don't "totally" agree with anybody ok? Just wanted to make that clear. Ok, I think most of the ppl here are missing the whole point. The whole issue stems around anti-competitivness and Microsofts business ethics. Unless Microsoft is broken up, we will NEVER see any competition. Microsoft is just too large of a company (and still growing) and with their so called 'ethics' will simply smother any competition out there (illegally of course). As for Netscape, I really don't think Microsoft was after them because of browsers. Netscape was into server side and that's where the threat lies. So with the browsers providing a source of income for Netscape, Microsoft used their monopoly on the OS industry to 'bundle/integrate' into their OS to starve them out. I would seriously consider that unjust/unfair wouldn't you? As for the statement on Microsofts codes being re-written, but as far as I know (and I could be wrong, I most of the time am ) but aren't the codes top secret? How is one to know that codes are re-written? Anyways, gotta get ready for work...and again I will clarify that I'm NOT ANTI-MICROSOFT PRO-LINUX, but I AM Anti-Anti-Competitiveness.

uhmm..first off you need to calm down. second, i never called anybody a moron. as i recall, you were the first to call people morons Quote: Your a ****ing moron. microsoft feeds you, so i can understand how you can be biased, but i'm sure things would change if you worked for the little companies or if you were one of the victims. as for me using linux, well i have in the past, but it was due to the lack of applications that i chose windows instead, why the lack, well...that's microsoft's so called business tactics. and just to clarify things, i NEVER said 'microsoft sucks or linux forever!' ok?...i use xp, i like xp...i'm just pointing out some facts, that's all. but i guess the only way you would understand were if i to say something like 'microsoft is the bestest greatest os in the entire world...bill is god...i want to marry bill....he is my hero! huh? j/k lighten up... btw..i DON'T support MS, i'm a free loading b*****d

hmm..i think that's your problem, you're using Nero to burn instead of InCD, you have to use that to burn CDRW's, the ones you've already burnt with Nero are gone, not recoverable as it treated it as a plain cdr. go to Nero's website and download InCD http://www.nero.com/en/download.htm

Quote: I'm waiting for the day when Bill Gates' head appears on the screens of every desktop in the world simultaneously, with an evil laugh and a grin saying "Now I finally have you all! muhahahahaha! Submit to me or be destroyed!" lol Quote: yeah they control everything. I mean i just ordered a new MB and CPU and had to buy windows...... I didn't say that now did I? I merely mentioned that they controlled a majority of the computers out there. Think national security, think how many ppl rely on their systems. Quote: As to the Mcdonalds analogy they do only give you one choice: Did Somebody day Heart Dise......Mcdonalds? Your point being? Quote: Bottom line is if you dont like the ****ing built in apps, install your own. Well, what your basically saying is that well, just buy the damn combo meal, toss away the coke and fries and go and buy pepsi and curley fries? Is that considered benefitting the consumer? Quote: MS includes this **** so people wont have such a hard time trying to figure out what to intall. And for those power users they can use whatever apps they want. Yah, well, let's hope they just come out with a LITE version so power users CAN have that option.

hmm...well...i think it's best put that Windows is more like Apple and Linux is like the PC, how so? Well, you get Windows as is whereas Linux is more of a custom built OS where you add what you like. Now ppl complain how hard linux is and how it's not user friendly, well...that's what the majority of ppl believed at first when they built their first pc. But as time grew, and with a little patience, more and more ppl started building their own. i also think it's fair to complain about Microsoft bundling too much apps in their OS. ppl should have a choice what they want. what they are saying about being ripped off is that they are paying for apps they do not need. Not everybody wants IE, OE, or media player so why should they have to pay for it? I mean, given the choice to just 'un-install' it is not a fair option is it? that's like going to mcdonalds and only given the choice of ordering combo meals nothing else and if you didn't want coke and fries, you can just throw it away, now does that sound fair? now ppl are saying, well...why get rid of IE or OE? It's far superior to Netscape/Eudora...well, remember the time when Netscape/Eudora was ALOT better than IE/OE? Microsoft then decided to bundle it with Windows, raise the price up a tad and then forced Netscape/Eudora out. i think that's what the lawsuits are all about. it's really unfair business practice. i mean, how are other companies gonna survive with microsoft bullying everybody around? let's be honest ppl, especially the ppl in this forum who, the majority i'm sure build their own pcs. What if you couldn't build your own pcs and could only buy Apple? or heck, can only buy combo meals at mcdonalds? microsoft is scary, very scary, and at the rate their going, they control the world...honestly....they control almost all the computers in the world....they can have access to any one at any given moment....what's especially scary was that with XP, they added themselves as a user in the 'user groups', imagine all those unsuspecting home users who do not know that? just a thought..

Compaq Presario 12XL506 Features: ?Intel?Celeron?Processor - 766 MHz ?64 MB SyncDRAM (upgradable to 320MB) ?128KB Level 2 Pipeline Burst Cache ?10.0 GB Hard Drive ?3.5" 1.44 MB Disk Drive ?24X Max CD-ROM Drive ?56K ITU V.90 modem (14.4k fax) Since it says memory is upgradable to 320MB there should be more than 1 memory slot. Never heard of a 320MB stick of ram, though I could be wrong. Found the info. here <edit> And from here it seems that the 505 model which I'm sure is similiar to yours says that 64mb of is 'non removable' which means there is one slot available for upgrades, which makes sense (64 + 256 = 320mb) </edit>

i tried using the remote assistance feature in XP and when i click on "invite someone to help you" it says "Your current system settings prevent you from sending an invitation" can anybody tell me where the settings are? i don't have firewall and i'm using adsl. tia
-
ahhh..there it is....never noticed it there before thanks
-
sorry, i just woke up and not thinking that clear yet...re-read your post and noticed you your adsl is using html interface...well..*maybe* they are having conflicting ip's, you might wanna look into that too. (eg. ADSL & Linksys both using 192.168.0.1) Try changing your Linksys IP.

you'll most likely have to setup PPOE in your router, but it depends on how you log on to the ISP and how they authenticate you. Some ISP use the MAC address of your NIC.

i might be wrong, but afaik, You will probably not want the Panasonic model if you plan on doing alot of RW with DVD since they are using DVD-Ram instead of DVD-RW discs, those proprietary discs cannot be read in other DVD drives and also they are rather hard to source than your typical DVD-RW discs. another thing to point out about dvd drives at the moment is that most DVD movies out there exceed the 4.7GB limit on the DVD-R/RW discs so you will not be able to do a straight DVD-DVD copy. if i'm wrong, i'm sure someone will correct me just checked the specs on the HP and Pioneer, seems the HP only supports DVD-RW's whereas the Pioneer supports DVD-R/RW so looks like the Pioneer is the best option, my brother has one of those and he seems to like it.

depends on the batteries, i've had the best lifetime with Energizers..i like the wireless ones, cords get in the way when you are fragging away

only time i had a mp3 skip was due to the filename, it was in chinese but windows converted it to some funky characters, i just ended up renaming the song and it worked.

you've probably already checked, but.. have you checked the mobo for newer bios updates? i remember having an old mobo but they released support for bigger drives.
