I do believe that there is some problem with the 9x code base that causes the system to hang if you exceed a certain amount of memory. I doubt even 9x/ME could even handle 512 anyway. If your going to have that much, install 2K... it rocks. --Cynan.

SuperMicro SC760A does me just fine. Lots of room inside for HDs, fans, you name it its got it. --Cynan.

Could be wrong, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the new drivers don't include support for TNT cards. --Cynan.

They fit fine on the VP6. Dang they look good. heh. I've actually been thinking I'll replace them with something "supposidly" better.. I'm getting around 46C atm at full load, and when it was really hot that weekend, 49C. I am about to fit another case fan though, that might bring it down a bit. --Cynan.

2K did support OpenGL, and did indeed come with its own driver. However, these drivers didn't fully implement the standard (I think). 3rd parties, such as nVidia, then released there own drivers along with their cards. Quake3 based games use the systems drivers rather then a games own. So the fact that EF is working, means that your OpenGL sub-system is also working fine. Having never played the game you are having trouble with I cannot really help you, other then suggest what Asghar already did, that that particular game doesn't support OpenGL under 2K. Why don't you go to there site and check the FAQs, support pages etc, maybe even email them just to be sure. --Cynan.

Well I answered my own question. It seems that you must disable your other monitors while an OpenGL application is being initialised. I also found a nice lil prog. called UltraMon that allows you to make shortcuts for programs, that will disable the monitors, run the program, and then reenable them. Nice! Oh, this prog. also handles wallpapers, screensavers etc, and to make the toolbar span onto other monitors, you simply "drag" it across. Hope this help anyone else with similar questions. --Cynan.

Perhaps what is meant, is that the OpenGL option for that particular game isn't available in 2K. --Cynan.

I've just setup dual monitors on my machine, and I can help with the "why do you need to change to PCI" thing. I had it set to AGP, and when 2K booted, it saw the other card, but under the Display Properties, it only showed up one of them. So I changed it back and all worked fine. I do however, have some other questions that perhaps you can help me with. If I don't select "extend my desktop", the other monitor doesn't display anything, can I not just have another desktop on that monitor? another start menu instance? can I extend the start menu across them? I'm yet to see any options in 2K to do this. I'm about to go look at that PowerStrip thing though, I hear that has dual monitor options. I also have a problem with playing Quake3 based games. When I have the "extend my deskop" flag checked, the game graphics fail to display. Any ideas? TIA. --Cynan.

Maybe the default settings have the other IDE channels diabled ? you knocked a cable lose inside the machine ? *shrugs* I have this really dodgy 1.3G drive, and sometimes when I plug it in the BIOS refuses to detect it. Give it a shake, and it works... hmmm... I should really get a new one. lol. --Cynan.

Watch your chips with those ORBs Brian, a lot of ppl say that its really easy to crush the die. I haven't had any such problems myself though.. I really love that "twist & lock" mechanism on them. --Cynan.

Thats correct. I believe there is now a cD0 stepping available.. or will be too. --Cynan.

Full Install Win2k Pro from Upgrade CD?
Cynan replied to Jrc384k's topic in Customization & Tweaking
2001 IF the dates are correct! which I seriously doubt... some say it was 10 years ago, others 10 years to go... who really knows! Time isn't real anyhow, its mans concept, not that of the universe. -
Use this to check what you have, and this to install one. --Cynan.

Cynan replied to fLy's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Ouch! Pay lots of money to a data recovery spe[censored]t if the data is that important, otherwise I'd say your pretty screwed. -
Also check that you have an ASPI layer installed.

Is there a way to create a non-dymanic disk in Disk Management? when ever I've tried formatting partitions in there, it always creates them as dymanic - I don't want that. --Cynan.

Hi. When using ICS, all incoming traffic is sent to all of the internal machines. There is little setup needed for a large number of programs to work. However, ICS is, well, crap, and I now use WinRoute. The thing is, I have two machines that both need to use say MSN Messenger, but I can't map ports to two machines can I. So..., anyone know how I can do that? pleeeeeease.. I'll be in your debt. --Cynan.
-
Well it doesn't for me for some reason.

Ta. Just been looking at various parts. I don't know when I'll ever get around to doing it though - just don't want to have to turn my comp. off for even 5 minutes!! lol. I'll post pics of that and the inside of my case when I get those cables (decided to buy them) - cept for the Live!Drive.. I'll have to do that. D'oh. --Cynan.

I think the Santa Cruz and the Game Theatre XP are basically the same thing arn't they? or I read something like that somewhere - not checked them out though. --Cynan.

SBs are all well and good, and don't get me wrong, I've never had any problems with the ones I've had... but apparently they do have a lot of incompatibility problems with various hardware. Most ppl I know tend to switch to the Game Threatre XP. Its around the same price and apparently gives your sound a new lease of life. I haven't heard it myself, but if I had to get another card, I'd seriously consider it. --Cynan.

Hey Blade, where'd you get that BayBus from? all the ones I've seen are for 5 1/4" drives. I'm thinking of making one, they sound such a cool idea. Oh, and found a cool place to buy cables from: http://www.kustom.co.uk/ They do SCSI ones too, and wire meshes for the front of your fans. --Cynan.
