Each users has there own. Its in the documents and settings folder off your installation drive - I can't remember the exact name of the folder off hand... something like... "%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files" --Cynan.

Its checks out your RAM for errors. It installs in the boot sector of a floppy, and loads up upon boot. If your RAM is faulty, it'll find it. --Cynan.

MemTestx86 is a good memory checker. --Cynan.

IIS on my machine wouldn't start the other day. So I uninstalled and then reinstalled (no reboots ) and it worked fine. --Cynan.

STOP 0x0A messages can be caused by a few things such as, EasyCD Creator, Norton AntiVirus, WinRoute... the list goes on. Do a search on the MS Knowledge Base for that stop # and see if anything is relevent to you. --Cynan.

This can be caused by NetMeeting crashing. To fix it you have to load up NetMeeting again, close it down and reboot. --Cynan.

Autoplay, Assistants, Tool Tip boxes , stupid web-enabled folders... Grrrr I hate those. I hate having to disable them, set the folders view etc to how I want when I reinstall or setup a new user. Its just grr, grr, grr. I also hate those stupid personalised menus. When the icons in the tray double up, the clock doesn't right, the frames border isn't heigh enough. The stupid "Shortcut to" prefix, all those lil things that just drive you crazy. --Cynan.

Here's the outside of mine...

Where did you get your IDE cables from? Standard lenght won't be any good to me. I need something longer. I have an IDE cable running from the base of my full tower, near enought right to the top! Some other devices that use them only require one connector, so rather then having a 2nd connector that I don't use, I'd prefer 1-1 cables if I can find them. All the rounded cables I've seen have 2 connectors, and they look quite bulky you know. Thanks. --Cynan.

Well thats weird, cos I remember doing some graphics stuff a few years back, and I specifically remember having to change a few things. 9x is quite tolerent of what you can do, 2K likes everything to be by the book. --Cynan.

Hmm. I've read this before but.. how about rounding ATA66/100 floppy cables? isn't the idea of the extra 40 wires to reduce crosstalk? and so if you round them, doesn't it screw that up? I'm thinking about doing it though. I've heard ppl have done it and they work fine. Also gonna do my SCSI cable later tonight. Not sure how to bind the wires together though.. I think I'll opt for using wire ties along the cable. I have a box full, multi-coloured too. Ah its gonna be grand.. --Cynan.

A long time ago I could write CDs in Nero, but nothing else could read or write to them. It turned out to be my ASPI layer. Perhaps you need to reinstall that? the drivers are berried deep down in the dephts of Adaptecs site.. good luck in finding them. Took me ages!

Where can i get the application compatibility update for win
Cynan replied to ConceptVBS's topic in Software
You can also use the corporate update site to get all the updates. corporate.windowsupdate.microsoft.com --Cynan -
clutch, does Windows Update not detect what state IIS is in, and update it accordingly? or do you have to update it manually yourself? --Cynan.
-
Indeed. Try recompiling it under 2K... and remember, 2K is different to 9x. Just because it works in one, doesn't mean it will in the other. There are differences in the APIs. --Cynan.

I was just gonna say that. Nero 5.5.1.8 apparently merges a SCSI device into the registry, causing a conflict on IRQ15, which in turn stops CD drives from working. I had this with SP1. I'm sticking with Nero 5.0. That tib-bit was the work of some bright fellow on this board I believe! well done! --Cynan.

FTP uses port 21. VNC uses ports 5800+ for connecting and its web client, and 5900+ once you have connected. I seem to remember something about a ports database , or a link to be added to the front page.. but alas, nothing has been done. Oh, and "netstat" will show you what ports applications are using. Just run it on a Command Prompt. --Cynan.

My advice, don't use VIAs drivers. SP2 has its own, and they work very well IMO. VIAs stuff always messes up my machine. I have no problems with an SB Live! either. Its most strange to me how some ppl do though. --Cynan.

On a side note, that crying icon rocks! lol.

I have a similar problem when trying to install 2K too. I usually just unplug the extra HDs while I install, then plug them back in after. Oh, and you could try changing the SCSI IDs of the drives. *shrugs*. I think your gonna have to take the case off, unless there is some facility in the installer or something that I don't know about. --Cynan.

Hey there... anyone tried this? I could do with a little help. I have updated my BIOS to the W2K04MO (think thats what its called) - even though it says NOT to use it on european models, that o'kay? and then I installed W2K without a problem. The only thing is, the internal camera doesn't work. Now I hear some ppl have managed it using SmartCapture 4.x, can anyone verify this? and even give me a link to where I can dl it? btw, can I revert the BIOS back again to its original state? I'm thinking that maybe the "update" isn't a full BIOS, hence can't be used on any model, hance I might have screwed up. Anywhere that I can dl the relevent files? Oh and while I'm at it, power management support is supposed to be better in 2K too, thoughts? opinions? TIA, --Cynan.
-
Well thats what I thought - as is the case with normal BIOSs. AFAIK, Sony don't supply the BIOSs for download. There is one for a different model of the C1, but I'm unsure if it'll work o'kay on mine. Thanks for the reply. --Cynan.
