Hey! that problem is just what I've got in 2K!! I didn't know what it was that caused it, but I DID install a new version of Nero recently... hmm. I'm yet to reinstall to fix the problem, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be greateful. I've tried un/reinstalling the CD drives, the channesl as mentioned above, all to no avail. Grrr @ Nero if thats what it is. --Cynan.

Upgrade your Detonator drivers... I had flicking in MW4, changed to v7.something, and now all is fine. --Cynan.

I've always used Norton Utilities since waaay back in the DOS days and it competed against PC Tools. Never had a problem with any of Nortons products except for Norton Navigator (nice file manager with XTGold key mappings). Since NU8, I only install Disk Doctor and Speed Disk. Both are surpior IMO to Microsoft's offerings. NTFS however is another matter, Speed Disk never supported this until recently and I must say I had my doubts about using it, but I personaly don't like Diskeeper, and I have had no trouble from Speed Disk to defragging NTFS drives to date. Slightly off-topic, but I did try O&O Defrag once, now that screwed by partition up... so I wouldn't use that ppl. --Cynan.

I just use WinAMP myself and the Album List plug-in. I have waaaay too much stuff on my taskbar as it is. --Cynan.

Hey, if you have say a removable HD caddy, and are running 2K... is there a way to safely remove it when everything is on? I'm sure there was an option in NT4 that you could check to say it was removable.. but I can't find such a feature in 2K at all. --Cynan.

Hi, heres the situation... I'm trying to connect to a SS2 server through a firewall. On my security logs I noticed it trying to use UDP port 47624, so I maped it... still nothing. It keeps failing to connect and I don't know why. Is there some other port that I'm missing? heeeelp! --Cynan.

I saw recently a list of bugs for 2Ks SP3.. I'm like... wtf!? wheres SP2!! It is most odd. I agree with clutch over NT4 and SP6a. I use that at work, and I've not had a problem with it yet. I don't really have any issues with 2K atm either, though there are a few fixes in SP2 that would be nice. --Cynan.

There are a number of ports that you will have to map to your NetMeeting machine, however, it will prevent you from using NetMeeting on another. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/...RCH&SPR=NMT --Cynan.

Then 'move' it instead. As far as I can tell, its an actual program, a command, that sits on the toolbar rather then a shortcut to anywhere else. If you have 'lost' it, then I'm sure I could mail it you. --Cynan.

There is a utility called servany.exe that comes with the resource kit. Sounds like thats what your looking for. --Cynan.

Thats it!!! under User Accounts, I turned the logon back to the normal one (disabling switching users) and I now get the lock computer dialog! Thanks clutch! --Cynan.

If it is a beta, or an evaluation copy, then it will say on the CD. These both have the timebomb built-in. The evaluation version is of build 2195 just like the RTM one, however, there ARE files that are different, despite it carrying the same build #. --Cynan.

JD, the 'hide' flag hides it from the Add/Remove dialog. Thats its purpose. However, MSN Explorer isn't a component, and so is shown in the normal Add/Remove Programs section without having to alter the formentioned file. --Cynan.

In 2K you use the Disk Administrator to assign drive letters to your drives. Try that. Its under erm, Computer Management under Administrative Tools. --Cynan.

lol I like it. Good thinking! --Cynan.

clutch, have you messed with any on the UI features? maybe when I did that, it 'changed' something else to... a bug perhaps? I might reinstall a fresh and see if I get the lock prompt BEFORE I change the UI to the classic style etc. --Cynan.
-
I'm running Professional. I'm glad that the locking dialog is still present, now if I can just find a way to access it! Maybe when I added a new Administrator user, it didn't give me the relevant permisison or something. As for the speed, I haven't tried running any games in it yet, just that when I move my mouse pointer across the screen, its sloooooow - and yes, I have changed the speed of it. :-P. The menus load up slow too. I'm acrediting it to the new UI enhancements. I am considering switching to it as my primary O/S though, if everything I use runs ok.. so far only ZoneAlarm refuses to work, but I can live without that. I just wanted to make sure it was sending stuff to MS without my knowledge. --Cynan.

Hi. Having just got MW4 and having to trackdown what ports it uses to setup my router, I had this idea.. It'd be really great if there was a place on the net that users could go to find out what ports they use. So I thought why not have a ports section on the compatibility pages,.. thoughts, opinions? --Cynan.
-
You can tell ICQ that you use a firewall and allocate a range of ports for it to use. --Cynan.
-
I thought that too. heh. Anyway, gotta wait on other ppl eh. I cant do this alone !!!
-
So we gonna get a link put on somewhere, or do our own anyway? feeeeeeeeeeeedback ! --Cynan.

JJ, you go on about other ppls lack of abilities, but how do you know that!? were you there at the time? no. If you were, maybe you would have had the same problems, who knows. You can't judge other ppl just because it SEEMS that they can't do something that you can. Just because you get a car to run fine over someone else with the same car, doesnt mean one person is less able then another. NO car is the same! even if it is the same model. Any mechanic will tell you that... and I should know, my Dads one. Different parts, glitches in the manurfacturing process to different hardware in the PC. No two are truly alike. So we have a difference of opinion? so thats life, get over it. Think of it this way, if we all got ME running fine, you'd be out of a job. --Cynan.
-
A lil late here, and not one to keep the argument going heh, but Brian, yeah, I agree with you too. ME sucks. The extra features it adds to 98 are simply not worth it. Its bloated and slow. hmm.. kinda like 98 to 95 - and thats why I run 95 on my laptop (not enough RAM for 2K. :-(). 2K is by far the best Windows OS to date (IMO), and after getting used to the new 'fancy' bits of Whistler, I can see it being even more surpreme... ...hey... anyone else hear that 2K is now being used more in business (for servers) then UNIX? hehe.. just thought I'd throw that in there. --Cynan.
