Hmm I have a Creative GeForce2 GTS and I ran it with an old ATI Mach64 card awhile ago, but I found that I had to disable the second monitor everytime I wanted to run a (3D) game. Did you ever find that CyberGenX? and maybe the newer Detonator drivers better support it now? I was thinking that only the newer cards worked (almost) flaslessy with games, though reading your last post, I might have to give it another go with what I have.

Quote: I didn't know you could put the main prog in the system tray, or is it just a shortcut? & if so, why not just use the QuickLaunch bar? Yeah you can put the program in the tray. Its under Options->Display->Show WinAMP in:. Quote: ...Reason I don't like MM is it it can't read HDD temps... Actually MBM can display HD temps. too, with the adition of the HDDTemperature plug-in (although thats only free for one drive) and unfortunatly, no HD monitoring programs that I've seen can yet monitor them off a RAID controller Quote: You might wanna check out DU Meter then - is a cool prog for network/internet speed monitoring [if you care about such things Will do Quote: Actually, this sounds kinda interesting - got an addy for it? the 1 that looks a little like the radiation warning symbol - then again, maybe I'm thinking of Bomb Shelter [did same thing - just as badly, but forget who made it] Yeah.. Uptime 2000. The radiation symbol is the World Time Servers Atomic Clock synchroniser. The one built into XP times out a lot for me (firewall problem no doubt) and I prefer to use this anyway. Quote: Oh? what was it conflicting with? I still find ZA works for me just fine. WinRoute Pro (thats the icon next to the radiation symbol). They both want to take over the TCP/IP stack. The only thing that I miss from ZoneAlarm is the outgoing protection (from MS stuff mostly heh, oh and RealPlayer) and the advert blockers thats in version 3. Have fun with the Audigy! If you have trouble and want to give it to someone else... hehe.

Quote: Winamp Agent [about as much use as a fart in a spacesuit ]. Guess again I don't have that silly lil agent thing running. Its the main app. that you see in the tray. I'm pretty much always listening to music and I prefer it taking up a tray icon then space on the tastkbar. Quote: Lets see, it looks like you have 3 copies of SpeedFan running [@ least that's what it looks like] for your different temps. What's the 3rd 1 for? [2 for CPU & System, but what's the 3rd for?] & How do you run 3 copies of it from startup? installed in 3 seperate folders? [that is assuming that it actually is SpeedFan]. Its actually Motherboard Monitor, and the three temperatures are: CPU1, CPU2, and System. Quote: You have the 2 little computers icon thingy which is usually a telltale of being on dial-up [my comiserations if true ], though I think I heard that it has a use or appears under certain networking situations as well. Two network connections. DSL and LAN. Quote: Oh look, you have a Creative Labs sound card. When I get my Audigy I don't think I'll be allowing whatever app it is [it's been a while since I had my hands on a machine with a CL card in] that sits in the tray to stay there. I certainly don't recall any constructive use for it being there. [who knows, maybe when I get my Audigy I'll find out they've added some feature of vital importance to the tray prog ] Thats one of the icons that I mentioned as perhaps being pointless. I used to always remove it post-install, but I left it in there this time as I was using it to quickly get to the soundcards settings as I was messing about with speaker posistioning a lot etc. I could remove it now but it I've kinda grown attached LOL. Quote: The icon under the red 47&degC temp reading looks vaguely familiar - some sort of Java prog/utility? My 2nd useless icon. Its displays my uptime on my desktop. The icon being in the tray serves no useful purpose. Quote: Is that Norton Crashguard I spy? I tried an older-than-current version of it some time ago & from what I've heard it's still more trouble than it's worth. Which icon? but nooope. Any more guesses/guessers? I use some viewers that load up in the tray too, such as ACDSee, QuickView Plus... but I always close them after I'm done. I used to have QuickRes and ZoneAlarm aswell, but I don't change resolutions much these days (besides I don't think you can get QuickRes to show-up in 2K/XP ?) and I stopped using ZoneAlarm when I switched to something else in the tray that it conflicts with.

Will my PSU handle it all!

Erm, I don't want to get involved in this really but I am wondering how a PSU/MB combination can effect anything. The PSU just provides power to a MB so what can posibly be happening with an Epox boards and Enermax PSU thats different to using it with any other board? It just drains more power on some of the voltage lines? If that were the case, then surely all PSUs would fall down with such boards and not just Enermaxs. On a personal note, I must admit I do agree with the notion that PSUs of a large size are purely made because there are ppl out there that will buy them - though I would say a 350watt supply would be the limit. (Seriously, add up everything in your case and work out how many watts it all uses. It'll be no where near 350).

Actually the above screenshot is of my tray, heh, and I don't like them being hidden. After all, what is the point in having them in the tray, if you can't see them? It purpose is to show you whats running. I don't have anything in there that I don't want.

I don't mind helping ppl out when I'm free, but then when you have some serious work to do of your own, ppl still pester you and get all snotty with you when you tell them you can't help them right now. Its so annoying.

    Finding your XP Cd-key

Prove it Without looking, I'm pretty sure that what it stores is just a portion of the CD key, which is its converted 'product' key. I'm having a look now though to re-educate myself lol. EDIT: Hey your right!. Well I never knew that..
  11. It can be related to your ACPI or MPS settings in your BIOS. Try changing those around.

    Finding your XP Cd-key

Well the keys have some number crunching done on them, and perhaps all that is kept in the registry is the result of this calculation, and then when SP1 checks if your key is valid, it just checks the calculated code - make sense ? AFAIK, no version of Windows has ever stored the actual key anywhere after installation.
  13. Jet Set Willy!!.. oh and Pacman! all those old favourires. Nah I really like all of LucasArts adventure games. Well not as much in the recent years when they're gone all cartoony/3D.

    no sound in .net

As mentioned in a previous thread by clutch, a lot of systems in .NET are disabled by default in the betas, including the sound. I'd paste a link for that thread in here, but I can't find it atm. Besides, you don't need sound in a server. It just adds instabilities. EDIT: Here it is.

    Your dream motherboard

A board that supports: - Dual Athlons, DDR support, On-board SCSI (U320?), On-board IDE ATA-133, Dual integrated NIC, 3 32bit, 1 64bit 33MHz and 2 64bit 66MHz PCI slots (each with there own IRQs), AGP Pro 8x, Oh and a working onboard USB2 that doesn't crash when used with a USB-slub from Alcatel! - though if I had this and all of the other upgrades I'm thinking of atm, I wouldn't be using that anyway. It'd be nice if all the connectors on the board were layed out well.

    UPS purchasing

I'd also go APC too, althought my current one is a Compaq. APCs drivers seem more available, and Windows has basic support for them built-in. 350 seems a bit small to me though.. 5-10 mins... urgh. Some servers can take 30 mins or more to shutdown and if your working on something and don't want to stop, then you might want something bigger. What exactly do you want to do if the power goes out? and what kinds of machines/devices are you planning to run on it?

Who's going to win the World Cup?

I don't know whos going to win, its a game thats pretty much down to chance, but I'll support my country... (I can't believe no ones voted for England yet, shame on you two heh). Oh and seeing how we're now 1 up on Argentina, I think we're gonna win

    DVD Region/Format question

I get all mine from Play (www.play.com), and they do stock Lost Highway on region 2. I can also confirm that the decoding is done in software and so you can play both NTSL and PAL DVDs on any drive (providing its unlocked). --Cynan.

    Hidden Devices??

You got this because you didn't uninstall the device before you changed its slot. Maybe you could put it in the original place and Windows will see it again so that you can remove it? Is that too much hassle? The way I would do it, and have done it before, is load up the Registry Editor and search for the device name and just delete every key that it finds. If it says anything like you don't have the permission (which I'm sure it will), then go to the Edit menu and to Permissions, and grant 'Everyone' full access. Sorted. --Cynan.

    Need RAID expert-----NOW!!!!!

You know, sounds like you did the same as me - I'm using the P3TDDE as a replacement for the VP6 aswell.. why'd you replace yours? Mine started to lock-up occasionly and then started not POSTing all the time. Located it down to some blown capacitors that when I replaced them, it worked fine! Still. Gonna sell that now. Anyway. I just put in a old HD that I didnt' mind losing data on and defined it as a 'spanned' arrary (I didn't want to do stripped as that wants to allocate block sizes and thought that might mess up the existing data). and... it worked! Its now just like the Highpoint was! I'm just running some checks on the drive to make sure, but it seems a'ok. btw have you got your P3TDDE yet? If not I did run into some problems so this might help... As soon as my system was up and running I ran MemTestx86 on it and test5 was just throwing up random errors. I noticed in the BIOS that ECC Parity was enabled (I don't have ECC RAM), so I disabled that but still got the same in MemTestx86. Eventually tracked it down to the Auto Detect DIMM/PCI CLK. Disabling that got rid of my error totally. Just a thought. --Cynan.

    Need RAID expert-----NOW!!!!!

Hey... ...old topic, but its the closest I could find to what I'm looking for... I have a Promise FastTrack100 RAID controller on-board the SuperMicro P3TDDE board and I was wonder if you can run it as a standard IDE controller. Like you mentioned, the drives are just appearing as "free". If I define them, sa say, stripe (or something else?) can I define them as just one-drive arrays? Would that erase the data currently on them? I'm gonna be so annoyed if I can't do this... I'm starting to miss the Highpoint. Thanks.

URL's in threads won't work in XP Pro..

USB is better.... yeah it draws power for all those devices your shoving into it through the motherboard... great idea... not. (sorry, can't help with your problem)

    HD Orientation.

Hey, As I'm replacing a motherboard atm, I'm looking into moving my HDs around to increase better air-flow and cooling to them. I was wondering if any potential harm or side effects could occur if you posistion them on their sides (vertically) rather then normally (horizontally). I know that an older Lian Li case had a cage which would posistion them on their sides, but I think their newer cases has changed that back to how it is normally. Any input ? TIA. --Cynan.
