I have a question too. You mentioned that... CT4620 and CT4760, the full versions of the SBLive! CAN use the new drivers. However on Creatives site it says that those won't be ready until the end of November. Is that a mistake on your part? mine that I've mis-read what you've said, or can I install another version of the drivers and they'll work fine? TIA, --Cynan.

Does WindowsXP Home version use Services?
Cynan replied to TaoArcher's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Of' course it runs services. Its practically the same thing. --Cynan. -
Been there, done that.. it was mentioned on here sometime ago that Nero adds some key that makes your drives conflict with.. urgh.. I've totally forgotton!! It is on this board somewhere though I promise you. I think I fixed it by uninstalling Nero and going back to an older version. Sorry I can't be of anymore help atm.. I'm kinda busy. --Cynan.

How about just setting it to autostart in the Services control panel applet? a much neater way. --Cynan. -
Swap file? you mean page file. :-P hehe. My WINNT directorys 2.1GB.. ouch! the REALLY weird thing is that 300MB just seems to have vanished overnight! straaaange... --Cynan.

DriveImage is more simpler and easyier to use if you ask me... though version 4 doesn't support Windows XP, where as Ghost 7 does (I think). --Cynan.

Perhaps I'm just not used to being praised. I guess I felt like you were telling me what to do aswell. It was my bad, don't worry about it. Sorry.

It may just be that I have a cold atm and not feeling to well, but that really sounds like a dig at me, and that I wouldn't normally help someone out if I could! Well I would. :-P --Cynan.

It is indeed a service that isn't started automatically that slows it all down. I just had a look and there are two that it might be, Network Connections and Network Location Awareness. As these and a few others were started after an initial boot-up, I switched them all the automatic... and hey, problem solved. --Cynan.

Build #2600.0 is the final RTM. I do hear there are versions floating around with build #s such as 2600.1, 2600.2 etc which are NOT the official release. --Cynan.

How about, "My CD is copie", will that do ya?
-
Beg to differ there! if you boot from a floppy or the CD you can press F6 before it starts copying any files - I know, I did it. You have to beable to do it this way otherwise you can't reformat that drive in the installation program (cos their are setup files on it!). The files that are copied to the hard disk first are only done when you start the installation from within another OS. Maybe when its officially released, MS will put up floppies to dl. --Cynan.

TweakUI for XP or TweakXP etc allows you to enable or disable the windows version on the desktop. --Cynan.

I heard somewhere that a dual AGP m/b was in the works... don't quote me! BTW, I currenly have a GeForce2 GTS running along side an older ATI Mach64 with no problems. --Cynan.

I have the same thing.. very weird. I can only assume that its some driver incompatibilty and that my modems manufacturer will release offical XP complient ones after the offical release date of XP itself. How are you connecting? I unfortunatly am using a USB modem - something I'm changing thankfully. --Cynan.

Do you have a multiprocessor system and an SB with Liveware3 installed? there is a program called devldr32.exe that might be your problem. You can safely rename this and shove it in your startup folder - that might help. Otherwise I suggest reinstalling stuff, and not using the VIA 4in1s. Sorted me out.

There was an issue with using VIA 686B southbrigde in UDMA mode and 2K. The cache wondered be flushed properly while shutting down and so, disk errors would pop up. It was suggested that you use the highpoint controller (if there is one on your board).

I wasn't aware Durons supported SMP, and afaik, Celerons don't either now so you might have a lil problem there.

Use the corporate update site to download all the patches etc, corporate.windowupdate.microsoft.com I think.
