I tried IIS but it is to slow and isnt reallyt good with php. Maybe its just my hardware.

1) I have a pentium pro 200 machine with 98mb of RAM that I want to use as a server in my network. My network is a connected by a switch. I have 4 computers plus the server. The server should act as a internet gateway for the network and is equiped with two networkcards. One to an ADSL connection and one to the network. The server should also act as a web and ftp server. The other computers on the network should be able to play games online surf and all tha basic stuff. What OS should I run on my server. I tried with win2k server but I think that the server machine is to slow for that or maybe I screw up the installation. Then I tried redhat linux and that was to difficult for me. So now I don't know what to try next so that is my question. What kind of setup should I run on mu server machine? Preferbly I should be able to run remote setup on the server from one of the other machines? 2) What is novell netware? Is that som kind of network prog for windows or is it an os of its own? Novell have a bunch of different progs, is it anyone of the that I could use for my servermachine? 3)Is it possible to run a PHP enablebled server on Novell Netware? ------------------ -==( fear the tear )==- [This message has been edited by tear (edited 15 April 2001).]

So how do you get to know what novell is? I have have to learn it somehow. I'm only 18 years old and the only way for me to learn someting is to try it out. Cant you write a few lines about what novell is?

I have setup a server in my network and I wonder how I can setup my users so their profiles are located on the server. I tried to set the profile path to: //Sever/server d/users/username I named the server to "server" and a partitition to "server d" and created a catalog users and copied my former profile from my computer to the uset catalog on the server. But when I logon it stills save cookies and stuff on the client machine. Is is possible to have the server handle the profile to 100%? ------------------ -==( fear the tear )==-

I building a home network and I'm thinking of security. I will have a server with two nics, one is connected to the internet and one to the network via a switch. All the other computers in the netwok will also be connected to the switch. I belive that installing a firewall will only be nessecery in the server machine, right? What firewall should I go with. I was thinking aout Norton Proffesional Firewall but someone told me that it send information to norton about my surfing habits. Should I go with zonealarm or something else instead? But if I do like I said in the beginning of this thread and have server between the network and the internet I only have to install a firewall on the server, right?

I was thinking about using wingate, I belive I read something of that it had a built in firewall, maybe that is enough.

Have you installed any VIA Drivers on you XP systems. I just installed XP and it runs great. Should I install VIA 4in1 or is that a bad idea? What drivers do you use with you GeForce cards? I'm running 7.52s wich are great. How about the new 10.80's? I have some problem with a disk. In 2k it says it isnt formatted but when I run a 98 start disk and run scandisk it finds a hole lot of errors, I relly need to get a hold of this files. Are there any recovery tools for win2k that I can use because when I run scandisk for dos (dont got 98) I have to click thruu like a million of popups. Its urgent.

When I try to disable the administrator account I get an error message that says: "The following error occured while attempting to save properties for user Administrator: Cannot perform this operation on built-in accounts."

When I install some programs the shortcut that creates in the start menu will be created in the all users start menu folder, how di I change this so they will be created in a specific user or the current users folder?

Every time I try to run ICQ it crashes on startup. How do I fix this? And don't tell me to reinstall windows beacuse I have just installed it and I don't want to re install it. But I know this is probably the only way. But please couldn't there be another way.

What tweak and cleaning programs are tere for win2k. I wan't ptograms that speed up my system and programs that finds errors and stuff like that.
