How to force IE to open links in maximized windows?
PsychoSword replied to anak1's topic in Software
I'm sure there's some obscure registry setting that will do it. -
How to force IE to open links in maximized windows?

Ya, I have a similiar problem. I don't know the answer to your question, but I hope somebody will know what to do. -
Everytime I use Windows Update now it says "Download and installation failed" everytime I try to use the update feature to download the latest fixes and updates. Why is it doing this?
-
Does anybody else have any ideas?
-
Well folks, that didn't do it. I deleted the content of my windows update folder and removed all the ActiveX controls. God damnit this is pissing me off. I thank everyone for their help though.
-
Darn, I can't find the folder that activeX controls are in Windows 2000, does anyone know where they are?
-
Ok, that sounds like a good idea. I'll delete any Active X controls and delete the contents of my Windows Update folder.
-
Hmm, I can't seem to find the article. But, I always delete all my temp files and cookies and stuff.... Something is messed I think.
-
Ya, but that's a ***** to do. Does anyone know what might be wrong?
-
All you gotta do is put your CD in the drive and it will say "This CD contains a newer version of Windows than you are currently running, would you like to upgrade to Windows 2000?" Yada yada yada or something like that. Just go through the install then.

Sorry no help here, but I'm having the same problem, only I want to disable autorun. If anyone knows how to disable/enable it please post.

I've seen the pictures side by side of the Radeon and Geforce3 and the first thing I noticed was the sharp difference in picture quality. The Geforce3 looks much cleaner and smoother than the Radeon. Previous all I heard about was how much better picture the Radeon was than the Geforce2. I think maybe Nvidia has invested in some higher quality image filters for their cards no? I know the Geforce and GF2's filters were definetly not as good as Radeon's. [This message has been edited by PsychoSword (edited 10 April 2001).]

right, i was just saying that my problem was lag.

As far as I'm concerned Leadtek cards suck hard. I currently have a Leadtek Winfast Geforce 256 and I had random lockups and/or yellow lines that would appear and then never go away until it locked up whenever I would run ANY 3D apps. I finally figured out that my problem was attributed to heat. I have two case fans and my processor always runs cool yet this P.O.S. graphics card would always lock up after a short while unless I had the case open and a big assed room fan blasting on it. I got PowerStrip the other day and have underclocked the core & memory to 100Mhz. Previously they were at the default of 120Mhz core and 166Mhz memory. Now I can leave my case closed and run Half Life or 3D Mark or whatever and don't get any lockups. WTF kind of shitty card is this? It even has a fan on the cards heatsink which my Voodoo card never had. Back when I had that Voodoo card If I touched the heatsink for more than a second I could burn my hand, yet it would run stable at 120Mhz core and 120Mhz memory. When I touch the heatsink on this Geforce (even with it at default clock settings) it is only mildly warm. So in summary I'm not at all impressed with this piece of crap card. I'm glad I only payed 70$ for it or I'd really be pissed. It runs Counterstrike and Team Fortress at a high framerate even with it clocked down so I guess I won't lose too much sleep over it. I'm sure I'll be tossing it in the garbage in a few months time (or less) anyways. [This message has been edited by PsychoSword (edited 08 April 2001).]

Wicked GL drivers http://www.wicked3d.com/ worked excellent under Windows 2000 with my Voodoo Banshee. It should work even better with your Voodoo3. I also used Smoky's overclocking utility to run my core and memory at 120Mhz stable. http://www.voodooextreme.com/koolsmoky/v_ctrl.html I was able to run 40-60+ fps @ 800X600 in OGL! btw I have encountered the stuttering on occasion with my old Voodoo and current Geforce, but they can both be attributed to lag. good pagefile size for 256mb ram?
PsychoSword replied to kingtrey's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I set mine to 1GB page file fixed size. I have 512 of pc133 cas2 and 60GB hard drive so this works out great for me. I used the same setting on my old system. -
How do I get the "Links" and "From ICQ" and other unwanted bullshit out of my favorites folder? I delete them, but they keep coming back does anyone know how to get rid of them for good?
-
Thanks alot, somebody awhile ago said to hide them, but I didn't know what they meant.

Sorry I don't know what ONI is

My IBM 30 gig GXP75 crashed, buy a Maxtor I've never had trouble with them.

I can solve your problem with the banshee. I used it in Windows 2000 with no problems for 4 months. I used the 3dfx "beta" drivers for Direct3D and for OpenGL I used the wickedGL drivers, I was able to run CounterStrike at 40-60 fps in 800X600 NS. Email me if you don't know where to find them. I'm not sure you can get the 3dfx beta drivers anymore, but the wickedGL are available. Email me or ICQ me for them I'll be happy to send. I also used Smoky's overclocking utility btw, I was able to up the memory & core both the 120Mhz with no problems. Above that however I could not run stabily. Honestly who here isn't happy with Windows 2000? It seems like they just released it and now it's already being pushed aside for a new even more bloated O/S. I don't want or need XP and I guess I don't see very much enthusiasm for it either. I wish Microsoft would just stick to what consumers want which is stability.

I have never liked Western Digital drives ever since I worked for Gateway several years ago. My brand of choice for the longest time now has been Maxtor. I even had a 129 meg Maxtor model from an IBM 486 that still worked until I finally threw it away less than a year ago. Currently I have a Maxtor 60 gig 7,200rpm model as my main weapon of choice and it is serving me well. And I believe you about IBM and WD being made from the same stuff because they both have that annoying rattling sound when they access. I've long suspected that was true.

Well, the GXP series drives are supposedly having reliability problems and I would have to agree since I've been having problems with my GXP 30 gig drive. It makes all kinds of strange noises and every once in awhile tries to shut off while in the middle of doing something. I'm just glad it's no longer my boot drive. I've also been having some problems with corrupted files such as MP3's that now have pops in them since being transfered over to the drive and setup programs that give CRC errors. The file problems anyways could be due to a bad IDE cable and I'm currently looking into that option. It's one thing to make a fast hard drive, but it's entirely another to make a reliable line of hard drives.
