How to get ACPI working and is it worth it?
PsychoSword replied to D_Williams's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I remember that was a big issue over on the athlonmb.com forums a couple months ago. Peoples were trying to disable ACPI because the SBlive card (which I have) and a bunch of other devices would take the same IRQs and memory addresses and occasionally conflict. I'm having the problem right now with my soundcard cutting out about every 15 seconds or so when I play games and when I play digital music (not mp3s) I get a horrible sound in the background over and over like someone stepped on a cat. The only way it was found to disable ACPI was to disable it in the bios and completely reformat. Do you want to do that? ACPI has been around since the days of PCI and Vesa Local bus and your board does of course support it they all do in one way or another. It is supposedly supposed to let devices in the PCI bus live harmoniously on the same IRQ, and most of the time it works, but occasionally there are problems. haha that url cracked me up "/intelsuxlately/" HAHAHAA -
I've seen some stranger posting situations. This one guy in the tweak forum awhile back said he was running a overclocked duron @900 or something and a Geforce 256 DDR and was "ONLY" getting 100fps or something ridiculous like that in Quake 3 1024X768 32bit LOL he wanted to compare benchmarks with other people which I though was hilarious. I decided to call his little bluff by saying if he's smart enough to overclock that processor then he surely must know that score is excellent and is in Geforce 2 GTS range. I was promptly flamed and told I should apologize by some forum sheep. HAHA

I'm going to ditch my two generic pc-100 64 meggers for a couple of pc-133 256 meg dimms. Heck they can be had on price watch for as low as $65 a piece. Can't beat a deal like that.

It supposedly will also fix the Windows 2000 compatibility problems with VIA's AGP Pro chipsets such as the KT-133 and KX-133. My A7V is looking forward to this fix. Actually it's already available, but you have to do some manual tweaking. It supposedly will be fully implimented and perfected in the new service pack.

When will IE 6.0 be released? Oh um you said it loses you icons for your favorite webpages? Internet Explorer always does that when you delete your temp files.

Ya, you could format your drive using FAT 32, but the cluster size would be gigantic for an eighty something gig drive. If you switched the cluster size to something reasonable like say 4k then the FAT would be huge. FAT just really sucks on big drives. I got a 30 gig IBM drive back in september and I wouldn't want to format it in FAT because of the lost space I would get from FAT's inefficiencies. As far as an 8 gig drive FAT would be ok, but once you start to get into the 10 gig and up range FAT starts to become a really archaic file system. I have a "*****" version of W2K and it wouldn't let me install SP1. I've never had any problems with office apps though. Don't ask me why I was trying to install SP1 I'm not sure myself cuz I heard it screws up more than it fixes.

Have you installed yet? I have some important info for you if you haven't. -
If your smart enough to overclock that processor of yours you should be smart enough to know better.

When I delete my temporary internet files I still get certain web sites in the url bar that will pop up when I'm typing in urls that start with the same letter. I've deleted all my temporary internet files and history. I've deleted all of my cookies. It still comes up and it's a little bit annoying as well. I am wondering where windows hides this stuff. Also I found a file called USER.DMP that seemed to contain info about websites I've visited. It was 45 megs in size! I deleted it a couple days ago. Today I searched for the file and it was back only this time it was 32 megs in size! what gives?

Thanks!

"Like, duh." So nobody knows what dmp files are?

So when you speak directly and don't smile constantly your perceived as an idiot? Ya, he miss pronounced a word before which has been immortalized I know. I kinda thought it was funny when he spoke at that press conference the day after the election where he seemed kinda pissed off at Al Gore for not conceding. Al Gore just gives me the creeps I don't know what it is. He has kind of a hot daughter though doesn't he? hehe

I have the same card and pondered and researched it for a month. Also, It's listed in the hardware compatibility section of this site and microsoft's hcl also. It will not work under W2K no matter what. Just pick up a cheap ethernet card that has W2K drivers, they go for real cheap. I payed 10$ for mine and it works great. 3com Homeconnect can kiss my ***. Oh and so can Lexmark for that matter.

I guess I don't understand why people sometimes call Bush an idiot. After all, Bush is the college graduate and Gore is the lawschool flunky.

I've been noticing a strange behavior from Outlook since I installed Windows 2000. I have the option enabled to "send messages immediately when connected to the internet," yet they dont go through until I manual go into Outlook and click the send/recieve button. I am using Outlook 2000. I used this same program in Windows ME and never had this problem, I hope somebody can tell me what the issue may be here because it's annoying a couple days later finding out that your message never went through and it's still sitting waiting to be sent.

Ya, but that's the generic explanation techs always give. To me it sounds more like an excuse.

I would take the Voodoo3 3000 definetly.

Now it seems to be working correctly again. Why do they have to make computers like this!!!!!!

EAX is horrible anyways. Unless you've got a super overclocked 3000Mhz processor you'll notice major slowdown in games when you have EAX enabled. Apparantly this wonderful soundcard p***es off most of the calculations to the processor. I just love it when they call it "hardware support for EAX" even though the sound card just sits on it's *** and let's the processor do all the work.

I have been getting this recurring error message from Internet Explorer recently saying, "IEXPLORE.EXE has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program." I can get it anytime. Alot of times when I'm just browsing message boards on different sights I will get it. I got it while browsing this message board a minute ago again. Then I reopened Explorer to this sights homepage and got it again. I tried once more and it hasn't given me the error in the past few minutes. HEEEELP!!!!!
