    Tweaked Drivers Please!!!!!

I know nobody here is interested in printers because your all too preoccupied with your hyper 3D benchmarking and overclocking scores , but can anyone please tell me where there is a sight that has tweaked drivers for NT or W2K. I have a Lexmark 1000 printer that does not recognize correctly under Windows 2000 and Lexmark said they will not release Windows 2000 drivers for it. If I could just get a hold of a tweaked version of their old drivers to get this thing working under W2K I would be happier than a pig in shit.

Setting DMA for drives in W2K

I am new to Windows 2000 and I am hoping someone in this forum can tell me how you turn DMA on for CD-ROM Drives and Hard Drives in Windows 2000. I checked in device manager, but there doesn't seem to be the option like in Windows 9X. The main thing that cause me to think of this is because my CPU utilization goes way up whenever the CD-ROM burns or copies files.

    Total Annihilation Under Windows 2K

TA doesn't seem to like Direct X 8.0 for some reason. I can can music from the CD, but I cannot get unit sounds in the game. Yes, I've checked my setting many many times. I read in this forum from someone who said the compatibility program on the Windows 2000 CD would fool the program into thinking it was using a diff version of DX, but I didn't see an option for that. I did try to make it think it was runniing under WIndows 95, but it gave me some ****ed up error like, "could not initialize program xx00x00x" or some ****. HELP

    Total Annihilation Under Windows 2K

That helped, though I had to turn the acceleration all the way down to get it to work. Strangely my in game CD music volume will not go down. It will only play at full blast. The unit sounds are now adjustable as well. I can make explosions quiet or loud as I want them, though I need to turn them all the way up to even begin to hear it over the blasting music.

  11. I know that alot of icons can cause your desktop to load alot slower. In WIndows 9X there is a file called shellicon.csh or something like that in the C:\Windows directory that you can delete and it will recreate the file more efficiently so your icons will load faster the second time you boot after the file has been recreated. Does anybody know which file W2K uses for icon info?

Well I ran the "Repair IE" option through Add/Remove Programs and dumped a bunch of temporary internet files and cookie ****. That seems to have fixed it. I hope it don't come back.

    Half Life + Win2k = Black Screen

I get the same problem when I hit the ESC key. What I do is I hit F10. Can't say I've tried Open GL because I like how Glide looks better. I don't get the console in single player mode Half Life, but I can get it in Team Fortress Classic and Counterstrike when I'm playing online. I don't play HL online so I dunno if I can get the console there. I can't remember, are you supposed to get the console in single player mode?

Any way to uninstall a Win2K upgrade?

The question is, "Why would you want to?"

Hehe, nice, now how do I convert from NTFS back to FAT32?

Did I mention sometimes I would get Kernel32.dll errors just deleting simple files? That's how unstable the Kernel is.

Hehe, nice, now how do I convert from NTFS back to FAT32?

I can't understand how somebody would pick the piece of tripe known as Windows ME to put on their computer. I downloaded the final version 4.9 off of a ***** sight and ran it for 3 months. IT SUCKS ASS. If I would try to run say more than 3 programs at once I would inevitably get Kernel32.dll errors. Pretty sad. Everything in Windows 2000 is faster except for 3D performance and that is rapidly catching up with new version of drivers. Windows ME is a dead end. With WIndows 2000 you should be able to upgrade to Windows Whistler easily when it become available (in the semi-distant future). A good example of how superior WIndows 2000 with NTFS is over Windows ME is when I play Total Annihilation. At the map load screen when I was running Windows ME a medium sized map could take 30 seconds to load. Now with WIndows 2000 even the largest maps never take more than 3 seconds. I'm sure the buggy "System Recovery" option in WIndows ME has a little something to do with it. Even when you disable this crappy option it still sometimes turns itself on again, taking up system speed and resources in the background while your trying to play a game or run multiple apps. The thing that really shocked me about this feature was that, One month after disabling it and deleting the space taking folder "_Restore_" I had a hidden folder of the same name with 160 Megabytes of useless **** inside. I deleted it again and went to make sure it was off. It was still off! So a week later I had another 40 Megabyte folder full of crap which I deleted. I had to keep doing this until I got Windows 2000. Sorry for being long winded, but Windows ME really chafes my willy.

    HP CD-Writer Plus 8110

I bought a HP CD-Writer model 9310+ back in July when the model was brand new. The software they sent with THIS model didn't even work with W2K. If you go to their website it says I have to pay them $9.95 and they will send me the update version of Direct CD which according to them works in W2K. However I think that Direct CD and that other crappy app that came with this CD Writer are garbage and I use the latest version of Nero instead, which I think is a much better program.

Setting DMA for drives in W2K

Actually it didn't assign DMA by itself I had to manually change it in Device Manager, it was set to PIO mode by default. I changed that to DMA.
