Well, I took out my SBlive 5.1 and threw in a old value I have lying around, and what do you know. Fixed. Dodgy! Powers of MS and creative combined, fear. It is really quite worrying that winXP is doing things such as these. It should be better than win2000, not worse (and win2000 wasnt exactly great either)> Oh well.

Well, I am running winXP corporate ed however I have quite a large problem. The amount of volume which the system is producing, is basically none. It is so quiet that even on maximum settings, it is not even 20% as loud as it is in Win2000, and I had the settings all on 25% there. I have installed the updated sblive driver but this has not done much, and have fiddled with most sound options there actually is and still, the sound volume is stupidly low. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Well, its time to buy a new machine. After using the 440bx chipset and a dual slot 1 board (gigabyte 6bxd) for a long time, it is time for something new. The 440BX was stable and performed well, it was a really great chipset..but now as I am faced having to buy another dual board, I have to look towards VIA chipsets unless I want to either fork out a lot of $$ for a i840 board + rdram or something else that is very expensive, such as a board with the serverworks serverset III le chipset. After looking through some options, I have ended up deciding on a dual socket 370 board with a via chipset, but would like to hear peoples recomendations and experiences with such a board. When thinking of VIA, instantly poor performance comes to mind. However from what I have seen recently, the via chipsets have matured and are pretty decent now, however I am still concerned with the memory bandwith/performance. There are a few dual socket 370 boards that I am interested in, one being the MSI 694D pro or maybe the Tyan Tiger 133, however there are probably others out there which I dont know about. So, anyone out there that is running a dual board with a via chipset, I would appreciate any feedback to do with what board I should be after, problems you have encountered, what drivers or tweaks are required to obtain maximum performance / stability, etc. Thanks in advance

Currently im running on ATA33 and am planning on upgrading to ATA100 when I get my new 45gb ibm deskstar hdd which is ata100 capable. I have heard ata100 is actually good and has some performance inrease, unlike ata66 over ata33. I have seen two main ata100 cards on the market, one by promise and one by abit - which one is better? Does one have better performance/reliability/compatability? Ive seen quite a few driver updates and stuff for the promise one, I dont know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Any suggestions? Thanks
