I take it that you are only using TCP/IP as your protocol, I've seen this problem b4 when users use Micro$ofts Internet Sharing Connection software. If this is the case with you, may I suggest disabling that crap software and try using something like Winroute.

It was mainly released for Win2K (International Versions) and it helps with ppl having Direct Input Problems ie: users who lost their pad button mappings after upgrading from DX7 to DX8. It also solves major issues and adds support for DV Camcorders which previously gave alot of users trouble. There doesn't seem to be any performance increase with DirectDraw or Direct3D. Hope that helps.

Not worth downloading unless you have an international version of Win2K (meaning non-US or UK) or You're having probs with Direct Input, such as buttons on joypads/sticks not responding after installing DX8 from another version.

I'm asking cos I've been too busy to check up myself but I noticed something weird.... When I upgraded Win2000 to DX8 and I checked all the components, they all registered as Version 8, however.......... When I install it on Win98 or ME, Direct 3D and other files such as ddraw.vxd etc show as Version 7. Does anyone still have DX7 installed and if they do can you leave my your EXACT Version numbers (Using DXDIAG etc) cos I didn't make a note of them earlier.... Cheers

Yep, the basic jist of things here is that win2k is the best, and yep i agree too. I wonder if you have win2k running on NTFS cos alot of ppl have had progressive slow down against ppl using FAT32 unless they have large (and when i say large i mean VERY large) partitions. I do alot of bench testing in my line of work (and home) and I've found Win98SE to be the fastest (although in my case Win ME booted faster) and most Stable. And this certainly seems to be the case with custom-built or clone PC's. You'll prolly find that Win Me will run almost equally good as Win98 SE on branded PC's such as Gateway and Dell. But like ther other guy....it's my experience matie

Hi PPL, 1 of my boards is a Tyan Trinity 1598 Super Socket 7. It has a VIA Chipset and I use the Via refernce Drivers version 4.25a (Latest on the site). When installed on Win9x/ME, by default, it installs an older Driver in the Turbo Mode which I replace later with a newer file (which are all provided in the download) and the systems Graphics speed up incredibly. Then I goto the registry and change a coulple of settings which are "Turbo" and "Sideband" just to get that little bit xtra This download also includes the files for win2k. Since I've upgraded this particular system to Win2k, I've also installed the AGP driver again choosing the Turbo option in setup. However the settings are quite different in the registry and has no entry for Turbo or sideband. I wish to know if anyone knows which AGP setting can be altered to gain the same affect as I get in WIN ME/9x Thx.

NO arguements here..... Now just decide what extras the companies that ship that GPU-Chipset offer like TV-Out if you're into that stuff etc etc... The Leadtek Winfast is very good as is the Hercules Prophet range. The choice is yours ------------------ --------------- Lord Nor of JK ---------------

Have you recently installed any ADDITIONAL modem software to your PC such as Modem Status Monitoring software? I ask because I can across a case where a program called Modem Manager with comes with most 3COM/US Robotics modems was installed on two Win2K PC's, 1 with and 1 without SP1 and in both cases they did what you say is happening to you. When I removed it from both PC's, Shutdown and reboots were corrected. Hope this helps some ------------------ --------------- Lord Nor of JK ---------------

I remember reading an article in a magazine last month about how this can be achieved in Outlook 2000. It doesn't do it the way OE does it, rather it kinda displays the webpages or something like that, I'll see if i can dig out that info for ya. ------------------ --------------- Lord Nor of JK ---------------

....and also if you have trouble getting rid of that NTFS partition with FDISK and don't have partition magic, i've posted great Partition Utility that I found ages ago that can get rid of any Partition, be it NTFS, HPFS, FAT(x), Linux etc. Download it at www.tcnf.fsnet.co.uk and goto the downloads section --> "OSAddons". It's pretty easy to use and then you can install a FAT 32 partition with ease. Goodluck ------------------ --------------- Lord Nor of JK ---------------

Check this... got this from the games guide:-- Tomb Raider 4: Last Revelation (Eidos Interactive) Yes W2000 07/00 Received the follow messages: 1) Works with patch from Eidos web site. You have to change the screen settings to 16bit color. 2) Using the new NV 3.81 divers for G/Force The resolution can be set to your required setting ( 1024 x 768 32bit ) providing that you select windowed game then runs fine 3) To make the video clips work in full-screen mode in Windows 2000, get the TOMB4.EXE patch from Dec 17th (790,528 bytes) and change the byte at offset 0x93C23 from 0x74 to 0xEB. Additionally, playing the videos at 32bpp instead of 16bpp gives slightly better quality. Change the bytes at offsets 0x9C4F7 and 0x9C53C from 0x10 to 0x20 to achieve this. OK SO HOW EXACTLY DO YOU DO THE PROCEDURE IN STEP 3?
