    Disabling ACPI

Thc129 i tried this once but in reverse, i.e. from standard PC to ACPI PC and the result?Blue screen, good bye, and had to reinstall win2k.I don't know if the reverse way works but it certainly didn't work for me in the order i told you.are you sure you can do this?

    Emulation Mode

NikeShox what is it exactly you are trying to do?i mean why do you want to make a program think that it's running in win9x?are you trying to run a DOS game that simply doesn't run on win2k? i don't really know how to do this trick and i don't think that you can actually do this(correct me if i'm wrong guys). The only solution to this is running a win9x emulator in win2k but such program doesn't exist!any other ideas?

Will SP3 W2K be needed ever arrive ?

well i see things much simpler:i don't think that windows XP are going to replace win2k for the simple reason that winXP is aiming for the home users which means they are going to be a more sophisticated and reliable version of win9x/ME having all the great reliability of NTFS and win2k. win2k is mainly aimed for companies and not for home users. But it's the reliability that made them popular and of course it's the way win9x/ME sucks so much that you need to restart your PC every 2 hours of work or play. concluding i think that MS made itself clear about XP and what purpose they are going to be serving.

    Forcing resolution

then you should try the support of Nvidia or turn back to another driver.i checked quickly the nvidia page and saw that the latest driver (WHQL) is 6.50.the others don't have support since they are Beta.but you said that these ones have problems as well. that's all i can think of at the moment.sorry if i wasn't helpful. Anyway take care nikkerit.Arrivederci neighbour (hope the spelling is correct!)

    Forcing resolution

oops that's really strange... What is the brand of your monitor?can't you find drivers for it?even if windows have your brand but not the specific model, try still to select a model close to the serial number of yours.it sounds like your monitor is not at all optimised by windows and i think that's the problem.I also bet that you cannot select the highest frequencies from "monitor" tab. if you tell me your monitor maybe i can help you out more. Till then...salute!

    Forcing resolution

A quick way i can think of is to go to display properties-->settings and then to advanced. On Monitor tab click on "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". Be careful though because if you select a resolution or refresh rate that your monitor does not support... you know the rest... BTW have you tried Nvidia's support?maybe if you mention the driver and the problem they might have a solution for you.

Scary stuff and a good read

The point is that Psycosword has a clear view of how things are, and i agree with him. If these guys sleep hugging their keyboard and have $ex with the mouse then...f u c k all.I spend hours on my computer but i'll never turn up to be an idiot that tries to harm people's work for fun. When i wanna have fun i play a computer game or play basketball or go out with my friends or see my girlfriend!Simple HUMAN world isn't it? Anyway, this article was really interesting (security point of view) and quite educating.

    Autorun.ini PLEASE HELP!

usually the autorun.ini files refer to a certain file in a directory which is run by default when you enter the CD.So all you have to do is actually run the executable with the parameters that you were going to put into your autorun file. Otherwise the only solution that i can think of right now (and that's for complex autorun.ini where you have to run more than one executable) is to temporarly rename your .ini file to .bat so it will run the commands inside the autorun file and actually simulate the process as it was an autorun.ini file inside a CDROM.

    Login help

all you ahve to do is login with the other admin account you have and then go to users in control panel.then highlight the "Administrator" user in the lst and press "set password".It will not ask you for the old password since you are logged in as an admin, so all you have to do is set a new password and that's it.

    programs

what you did works fine but only for users that don't know the existence of nero.if you have permissions to a user(say Power Users group) to access the folder of nero in the Program Files folder then anone can execute it from the cmd or even browse it. To be sure go to ahead folder in Program Files and set the permissions so that only you have full control and other users have none. i think that should work unless you don't want to bother if the users of your computer won't have a clue of how to run the program if it's not listed in the startup menu.

    Removing attachments for OE mail

attachments are binded into messages.so i don't think there is any way to remove them(maybe i'm wrong so i hope someone corrects me). Try and compact all the folders and see if it saves any space at all.(File-->Folder-->Compact All Folders). Otherwise the only other way i can think (a bit stupid!) is to actually forward these messages to yourself without the attachment keeping this way the original text message.

    ntbackup and taskplaner

could you actually be a bit more specific on the process you are doing?my scheduled backup works fine in win2k pro and i don't think that it will be different under win2k adv.server. All you have to do is go to Schedule Jobs.Double click on the day that you want the backup to happen.Select the backup type(all files, selected files, system state) and put the rest info on(file names, drive letter, etc). Then on "When to backup" screen choose advanced and on "schedule task" drop down menu choose the type you want.e.g. Monthly and choose a time that the backup will occur monthly after the selected date you clicked on the beginning.Enter the job name and modify any options you want to.Voila:after finishing an icon should appear on the selected dates you have scheduled the backup.By clicking it you can modify the job or delete it.It should work fine. Note that there is no icon in the taskbar that says that a backup job is scheduled. You just exit the system backup program and everything will happen in the time oyu specified without you needing to do anything at all. Hope it works for you and that it helps you because maybe something else is wrong with it rather than your settings.

    Easy CD Creator 5 Platanium

Yes.i know the problem.Easy CD Creator SUCKS big time! That's the problem.I know that it is easy and has nice interface but as a recording software it blows big time. You should try Nero or WinOnCD(it's bought by roxio as well so i think it will be abandoned soon anyway).

    Icon Problem

I don't know if this is going to help, but it's the only thing i can think of for this funny problem. Download TweakUI from microsoft's web site. Then after installing it run it from controll panel and go to Repair tab.Select "Rebuild icons" and press "repair now" button. This will rebuild all explorer icons plus it will get rid any unused icons from the memnory. Hope it helps.

    SP1

Hi everyone, After i installed SP1 for win2k Pro (selecting to keep a backup of existing files during the installation), i realised that my hard drive had two extra folders named $UninstallServicePack and ServicePackFiles, both located under winnt folder. After i was ensured that my system is stable i deleted the folder named $Uninstall...Everything runs ok as expected. Can i do the same with "ServicePackFiles" one?I checked many files and they also exist on other system folders such as "system" or "i386" etc. Thanks very much.

    Outlook / Hotmail

It's much simpler than everybody thinks.Just go to tools-->account and choose add mail account. Type in the display name you want and then type down your hotmail address.e.g. Someone@hotmail.com.Put your password in. Let Outlook do the rest! Done!
