Thanks for the feedback Sampson. It irritates me that this particular thing doesn't work while Nero and Digital Mixmaster do. Just to confirm, my CD-RW is master on the secondary IDE controller and DMA is on. I'll try another version of the video drivers, probably 23.12 'cos it's WHQL (maybe the WHQL designation will help...lol). Wild guesses are where I'm at at the moment. If I get no joy I'll try the 21.81 drivers as well. I'll keep you posted.

Over the last couple of weeks I've had Win2k Pro fall over with a "Save Dump" bugcheck system event. The text of the last event was: Event Type: Information Event Source: Save Dump Event Category: None Event ID: 1001 Date: 19-January-2002 Time: 21:40:56 User: N/A Computer: SILICONGOD Description: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000077 (0xc00000a3, 0xc00000a3, 0x00000000, 0x008af000). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini011902-01.dmp. The microsoft site just says "Contact your technicl support group". I was wondering if anyone else has had the same or even if they can give me clue as what is causing it. I'm not overly excited about reinstalling everything but I will do if need be. Relevant machine specs are below: Hardware Athlon 900 ASUS A7V133 mobo with RAID (BIOS v1007) no onboard sound 2 x Seagate 3 20G HDD 7200 rpm as RAID 0 (C: Win2k installed here) 1 x Quantum 20G HDD 5400 rpm (E 1 x LS120 (internal) Soundblaster Live! Value Geforce2 MX 768M RAM CAS2 Software Win2k Pro SP2 with a swag of hotfixes (Q252795 Q276471 Q285851 Q296185 Q299553 Q299796 Q302755 Q285156 Q298012) IE 6.0 with following hotfixes: Q312461 Q313675 Via 4in1 4.37 Via AGP 4.10 Nvidia 23.11 reference video driver ASUS/Promise fasttrack RAID driver v2 (build 18) Dr Watson is off Creative sound drivers for WinXP v1.0 with AudioHQ, etc I did have the Via PFD driver that appeared recently on viahardware.com but I ditched it when it refused to load at boot time. I'm not in a position to try different versions of drivers at the moment because I need the machine up for the next week or so, but after that I will have time to play around. In the meantime any thoughts and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've just reinstalled win2k with SP2 and installed the new nvidia 12.81 drivers and now I get the following error when I try to start Q3A: Loading vm file vm/ui.qvm. VM file ui compiled to 555725 bytes of code ui loaded in 1379200 bytes on the hunk recursive error after: User Interface is version 3, expected 6 After this Q3 just hangs. After I kill it, I'm left with a desktop that looks like I'm in reverse video and I have to reboot to correct it :-( I was using the ref drivers 12.41 from nvidia's site and everything was ok. I would like to keep the 12.81 drivers if I can 'cos they seem to fix a couple of other annoyances that I've had but I'm willing to ditch if need be. My systems specs are: Tbird 900 on ASUS A7V133 mobo (BIOD v1005a) Geforce2 MX 768 M RAM PC-133 2x Baracuda 3 20GB HDD UDMA5 in RAID 0 array 1x Quantum 20GB HDD UDMA5 SB Live! I'm running: Win2k SP2 IE6.0 Directx 8.0a VIA 4in1 4.33 Quake 3 Arena + 1.27h patch I'm downloading the 1.29h patch now. If anyone can help that would very much appeciated. Thanks in advance.

Thnx Busby. You were right about that. I installed the patches in sequence and all is now right with the world. I just want to thank everyone who replied to this thread. It was all much appreciated.

I have an ASUS A7V133 mobo and recently I've noticed that the chipset fan (not the CPU fan) has been getting louder and louder and now it makes a racket that I can hear all around the house. Has anyone else had this happen to them? If so, what did you do about it? I don't really want to send the mobo back 'cos I need it for work. I'm thinking about get a replacement from a local electronics store. Thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for a BIOS update for my Octek rhino MVP3-AT mobo so that the powermanagement works with Win2k. The one I'm using is dated 22nd Feb 1999 (99020). Does anyone know where I can get one? Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Down8, yeah I've send them a couple of emails but so far no response ;-(

Thnx Down8. Already tried those but the flashing program says that this BIOS file is too large (262K)and that it requires a 128K one.

Hi there. Does anyone know how to stop Win2k from not disabling an external modem if it is off at boot time? The MS knowledge base reckons that this is the way it is designed to work. However, I can leave my 33.6 ext. modem off @ boot time and Win2k does not disable it, only my 56k ext. modem. I'm using Win2k SP1, with IE 5.5 SP1. The modems are a Hayes Accura 33.6 and a Swannsmart2 56K. Thanks in advance for anyone who can suggest a work around.

Thanks for the tip thetgg. Much appreciated. I was hoping there might be a registry entry or something along those lines but so far I've found nothing. It's only a small thing but it is very irritating.
