  1. 2.5gb/second. Whats the point for nearly anyone in having that much bandwith? How fast is the fastest single hard drive these days? Youd need a massive raid which consisted of a few hundred hdd's that are scsi and such to even handle anything close to it. Guess it would be useful for.... a backbone, but thats not exactly your average user.

    Ram problems?

Heh, overclocked k6's. Dont they allready run pretty hot without being overclocked? Could probably fry something on it at 500 from 350
  3. Im currently running dual p3-500's on a gigabyte 6bxd motherboard and have decided that I will upgrade to either dual p3-800's or 850's. This will require me to purchase a new motherboard and im not too sure whats best for me. I plan on sticking to 384mb pc100 ram and have a sblive, geforce, scsi card, network card etc. The boards that I had in mind were the Tyan Thunder 2400 (although, a few posts that I have seen about this board have been disturbing, especially irq assigning problems), Tyan Thunderbolt (havent heard anything about these before, anyone use em'?), the new Tyan Tiger 133 (hesitant because its based on the Via Apollo Pro133A chipset and havent heard anything about stability etc) or the Tyan Tiger 100 (probably a bit too old). My current gigabyte board is as stable as a rock and I havent had any problems with my hardware with it ever. I would like things to stay the same when switching motherboard / cpu's and any suggestions on what the better dual cpu motherboards are with all factors considered (stability etc) would be appreciated. Thanks [This message has been edited by wind (edited 14 July 2000).]

    Ram problems?

Yeah, dimm modules 2x64, 2x128 all pc100, I think that the oldest 64mb chip is the one thats playing up..will try it in another machine and see what happens. Battleship - nothing overclocked at the moment

    Ram problems?

Thanks gramaglia! I found a util called DocMemory diagnostic which would boot off a disk. It ran like 9 different tests and each one found a problem at the 209mb mark - a ram chip ive had since early 98. DocMemory can be found here, free to download - http://www.simmtester.com/PAGE/products/doc/docinfo.asp

    Gigabyte 6BXD

Does anyone else have a gigabyte 6bxd motherboard? I was just wondering what cpu's people were running in it and what it could actually take. Theres a bios update that says it supports 600mhz p3's which means that it might take any 100mhz bus based p3 but im not sure. Any feedback appreciated

    New Liveware, same old problems

I agree with Ningauble. Im sure if I put any other soundcard with decent win2000 support in my machine, I wouldnt have the problems im having today with my sblive. Soundcards are a damn cheap accesory to a pc compared to a system mainboard or scsi card, you would want to be insane to replace a motherboard/scsi card(unless it was a el cheapo' scsi card) to get a soundcard to work. And problems with sharing irq's and resources, everything else seems to work fine..apart from sblive. It seems that creative need to write better drivers or next time around im taking my business elsewhere, because theres no way im putting up with this bulls*** again.

Little question about Soundfont and SB Live!

I use a 64mb general midi soundfont on occasion and it works fine under windows 2000.

    Geforce TV-out in Win2000

oooer Nice program! Works like a charm for desktop stuff on my asus v6600 deluxe, just what ive been waiting for. However, it doesnt like switching video resolutions / going into other full screen programs, it dumps me back to my primary display when trying to do so. Any suggestions? Dual cpu motherboard suggestions

What about the via apollo pro 133a chipset? There are a few dual cpu boards popping up running off that chipset, it has 133mhz bus / 4x agp and other stuff

    CD-R Media Quality

I have had a fair bit of experience with burning audio cds and playing them on cd players. I found that some of the cds that I used skipped and had various problems (kodak, pioneer, princo), but when switching to different types of cds (tdk and verbaitm) the problems went away. It has a lot to do with the individual cd player itself, and the quality of it, but I would have to say that blue die cd's have worked best for me. Burning cds at a slower speed also helps the overall quality of the media, or you could even use a special type of blank cds designed for audio (they're like $7AU over here, where normal cds are $1.80AU, owch). note: kodak and pioneer cds have changed quite a bit since I last used them for audio cds and could be of decent/good quality now. Windows 2000, TNT2 & Uptime

I dont know if its just me, but I dont need acpi for anything. My pc is on 24/7, my monitor powers off without acpi so umm, I dont know what other advanced power management I need..one thing I do know though is that it seems to be causing a lot of problems and greif in windows 2000 and most people probably dont need it? Just my view of things

    Windows 2000, TNT2 & Uptime

Ive had a 14 day uptime with detonator 5.30 with my asus geforce v6600. Nothing bad happend to my system or any thing, but my modem got disconnected from the internet and I decided that I might as well reboot before reconnecting.. I know that a geforce card isnt a tnt2, but they have the same drivers and stuff and im sure stability would be the same. system: dual p3-500, 256mb ram, asus v6600, win2000 proffesional

    LW 3 finally out!!!!!!!

Drivers install fine, but I still get some sound problems in game unless I fiddle around with 3d acceleration / no 3d acceleration sound stuff in dxdiag. No improvement over the last drivers for me.

    Diablo 2 final problems

Well, to start off with, kickass game However, im having some problems in win2k with it which is a bit disturbing considering its supposed to be compatible with it. After playing the game for however long, I exit the game..do whatever I do normally in windows, but when I try to run the game a second time my machine freezes and I have to hard reboot. For some reason, running the game twice under the same boot freezes my machine. I looked to see if anything was running that shouldnt be and it wasnt. I have a dual p3-500 with a asus v6600 running 5.22 detonator drivers. Anyone having the same sort of problems or have any ideas on how I can fix this? Any help appreciated

    Most stable NVidia driver?

Ive got an asus geforce and im running 5.22, not a single problem. Although, when I think about it, every driver including all the beta drivers from 3.79, ive had no problems with at all. Stableness of drivers seems to be dependant on system configuration and the hardware in your pc, not the drivers themselfs. If a fresh install of windows fixes a problem of stability, that means youve done or something has gone wrong with your windows...
  18. Is it just me, or are other people highly irritated that you have to reboot to enable video out and reboot to change back to your monitor? I mean, video-out is for playing games and stuff, its not really for your desktop. You play a game for say, 30 minutes? Its stupidly rediculous that you have to do two reboots just to get video-out going for a game session. This whole reboot thing has made video-out useless on my card and im not going to reboot twice to use it (have to reconnect to the internet, wait for my machine to start up..). I wrote to nvidia support about this, but have not got a reply back yet.

    NT4 w2k comparison

Did you 'upgrade' from NT4 and install win2k over it or did you do a fresh install? I've heard win2k takes a performance hit aswell as other bad things when being upgraded from anything - a fresh install is allways best.

    Detonator 2

Last I heard we were on topic of win2k

    Detonator 2

Whats this disabled stuff that I hear some people saying with the official 5.22? Under display in dxdiag, there are three things under DirectX features. DirectDraw Acceleration, Direct3D Acceleration, AGP Support. For me, these are all enabled and can be disabled, and im assuming they can be enabled again after that.

    Detonator 2

After reading all these people complaining about the 5.22 drivers, I had to try them myself. Over the last months ive been reading about people who have problems with certain video drivers, blaming the drivers or whatever. I've tried 3.65, 3.69, 3.75, 3.76, 3.78, 3.79, 5.13, 5.14 and now 5.22, on the same install of win2000 and I havent had any major problems like otheres have said. I mean, older drivers like 3.65, 3.69 used to give me some lockups with certain games for hardly any reason, but ever since 3.79 or so I havent had one problem. Some other people have had success with the drivers like myself, some dont. Since the drivers work for some, I highly doubt that the drivers are 'stuffed' and people should stop blaming them. If anything, it has got something to do with your system setup and configuration. I mean, if they didnt work for anyone, sure, they could be stuffed, but the fact that they do work for most people means that there is probably nothing wrong with them. Just my view on the situation, and my reply to anyone who asks if they should use the 5.x drivers (or any beta nvidia drivers); try them for yourself, I doubt you have the same configuration and hardware that people have that might be telling you not to use the drivers, so just see for yourself. dual p3-500 256mb pc100 asus geforce v6600 deluxe gigabyte 6bxd

300MHz Min for software DVD is bull****

FrogMaster, yes, for a fraction of the cost you could buy a nice home cinema setup, but who the hell buys a pc for playing dvd's alone? Its a cheap edition to a system you allready use for other purposes (work, game playing, whatever). You should be comparing the price for a dvd drive to the price of all that other crap you mentioned.

Lw3 for win2k any idea when??

"Well they delivered the drivers on-time, but they where very buggy! " They're buggy? I havent had one problem with them and when I think about it, I havent heard anyone else complaining about them.

    Detonator win2k 5.16!

Hmm, tv-out has worked fine for me in 5.14 and previous versions I believe, except for one problem. I need to reboot to enable it, and reboot to disable it. What a hassle, hardly worth it. I dont suppose this has been fixed in 5.16? I hope they do something about it by the time the final drivers are out.
