Yeah that might me true. I didn't have a problem with UT at all, but NFS - Porsche Unleashed didn't work properly after I set the pagefile min to ~ 500 MB ... try it. I think it should work ------------------ 4C69 7665 204C 6F6E 6720 416E 6420 5072 6F73 7065 7220 2D20 4A65 6E73 2053 2E20 4461 686D 656E "What doesn't exist we must sometimes dream - and let our dreams inspire us to greater heights ..." If you're talking about games which use the Unreal Tournament engine I have a suggestion: Get more RAM. UT, The Fallen, Deus Ex ... any game that utilized the UT Engine caused a problem similar to the one you mentioned on my computer. After my upgrade to 256 MB I didn't encounter this problem anymore ... ------------------ 4C69 7665 204C 6F6E 6720 416E 6420 5072 6F73 7065 7220 2D20 4A65 6E73 2053 2E20 4461 686D 656E "What doesn't exist we must sometimes dream - and let our dreams inspire us to greater heights ..." My problem with Half-Life was not caused by the game itself. The problem is the Sierra Setup. It completly destroyed/erased my "Games"-Folder. Well, I am not a CS-Freak, so it's not that bad, but man I hate this Sierra Setup ... ------------------ 4C69 7665 204C 6F6E 6720 416E 6420 5072 6F73 7065 7220 2D20 4A65 6E73 2053 2E20 4461 686D 656E "What doesn't exist we must sometimes dream - and let our dreams inspire us to greater heights ..." *lol* ... even if I didn't have a problem of this kind it would be interesting to know the solution for (a possible) future reference ... *hehe* -
That was the missing info ... I also had a problem like this ... well, I didn't even get into the main menu. Another solution might be not to change the W2K default setting for the amount of virtual memory. On my computer I have the following seetings: min: 192 MB, max: 384 MB. When I changed it (I think it was min: 400) NFS5 didn't work properly anymore. After using the W2K defaults everythig was fine ... I have 256 MB physical memory installed. Well, 6 months ago I bought W2K and everything was fine until I tried to install Fallout 1 yesterday. It refused to work and even the methods shown on NT Compatible did not help me at all (-> copy all data to HD and install it "manually") ... is there anyone who solved this problem? I use W2K, DirectX8 and the SP-1 is installed as well ...

Fallout started, but it crashed after the loading screen was dsiplayed. On the German CD there is no _setup.exe. I only got setup.exe and setupd.exe. Both have OS check. ;( [ January 02, 2001: Message edited by: Operator ]

Well, there'S another option - even if it is more expensive : Get more RAM

Thanks for your reply. You're right , I should've been more specific. I tried apcompat.exe before and it didn't work. I always get the message that my Windows version is not supported by Fallout. Well, I'm from Germany so I use the German version of the game, but I also have the German W2K, so this should not be the problem. I also tried to copy the game files manually to my HD (using the description in the Compatibility/Games section of NT Compatible) and Fallout started. Unfortunatly it crashed after a few seconds, so I don't have any further idea ... [ January 02, 2001: Message edited by: Operator ]
