Windows NT/2000/XP Does it work OK with your PC

Quote: Gaming compatibility and eye candy are not as good as XP, but stability is far better. i found quiet the opposite - XP was FAR FAR FAR more stable for me then 2k ever was! - and it should be, as it is a newer release and have some feature to help prevent b.s.o.d's i have never b.s.o.d Xp due to XP (due to nividia drivers - yes, but not XP itself) - where as 2k i used to b.s.o.d at least once a day (and yes, i used XP and 2k on the same system) Just my experience. -
that is from the movie!!! UMMM! crap!! but i saw the movie - it is not just a clip - but a whole movei! CRAP!!! wha was the name of it - the movie was pure jokes!

are LCDs actually better now for gaming - most reviews i read LCD's get ppor refresh rate rating for games and there tends to be delay or alot of ghost trails type of thing.. Do you find this or no? I currently have a 19" on my vaio - but want to get a secnd monitor and was looking at dual 19" trinitrons - but then was thinking dual 19" or even 18" LCD's....

What to use to Track internet activity from a certain system
Mr.Guvernment posted a topic in Security
Hey all, this kind of goes with the other thread i started, Since we gave our lanloard shared access to our network / inet connection - last few days around the same time (6pm) the conneciton speed drops through the floor! i know normally this is the time that ISP will drop, but this has only started since we , sorry, my friend! decided to share our line. The friend thinks that it is not him, and that it is just the ISP, but it isn't and i am darn sure of it, so i basically want to prove to him that it is not the ISP and track the landlords usage. So, he is on our internal network - with out using MS Proxy - as that would be a little complicated for me to set up and would require me to install a client on his side, is there anyway to track the internet usage / banwidth etc of a single computer on your network? All help is appreciated. -
"DareDevil" with Ben Affleck: You plan to go?
Mr.Guvernment replied to sapiens74's topic in Slack Space
i think benaflick is too weak of an actor - he screwed up sum of all fears - but supopsedly he does well in this movie. i think ben's acting abilities are very limited to calm roles - he does not have the anger or ablitlity to seem upset and demanding when he acts. -

feel fre to jog your memory on here as well And alec , info is appreciated. With the ip thing, i know that the IP of the isp' can't be changed at all. bummer it is more to simply throw of a potential attack as well possibly / mainly not let someone know where the system is located - as someone will not think that the say 4th IP from the last one is the actual server, and will think the "dud" address are (the last one, when in fact it is not) i will check out that link, as it is something to start! i had thought perhap putting a linux box with NAT and such infront of the system we want to protect so it would be router - linux NAT box with firewall - System to be protected. and this way the system to be protected is on an internal 192.* IP and is not as likely to have any damage done to it , even if someone did get into the linux box somehow........... thoughts? -

Easiest way to block a computer on network from shared drive
Mr.Guvernment posted a topic in Security
Hey all The network we have here we will be allowing 1 outside computer on to it, but we have alot of shared drives and such, i know i can go through and put in user accounts and such etc, but thas alot of shared drives and folders i would have to do that on. But, is there a way to simply block the IP assigned to them which would be 192.*.*.* from accessing shared drives ? and only allow them to surf the web? -

Iwould have NO clue as to any of that, it seems that the friend simply plugged in a netowkr cable and set it to dhcp, and that was it - he really doesn't have a clue about WINS or anything else. -
2K server, running DHCP server, 1 Nic 2 IP addresses Nowork
Mr.Guvernment replied to duhmez's topic in Everything New Technology
yeppers u can not have 2 dhcp servers on the same network cause they will have IP address conflicts - especially if you have 2 of them connecting to the internet and both the 2nd nic's will be trying to use 192.168.0.1 -
GeForce FX vs Radeon 9700 - your thoughts? - official thread
Mr.Guvernment replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Slack Space
u said it - wait till the product is out and people actually own both the cards above - or at last 2 card worht comparing. My uncles will most certainly be buying ATi new card or the 9700 PRO AIW if and when they come out with a 256mb version - to which ATI did not deny when i emailed them, they said simply keep an eye out on their site, they also did not deny the rumours of the r350 - they said just keep an eye on the upcoming enws page on their site. but yeah, each card has their advantages - as i say ATI is an ALL around better card - where as, of course, NVIDIA is more aimed at the gaming market - and matrox @ the 2d world, and also 3d - but they try to sneak in to the gaming world now and then with some of their adverts. -
Also, what type of driver where they? As above - if you are constantly ripping dvds - a few a day, then you are likely over using your dvd drive as most are not really made for that much strained usage over and over and over in a shoret period of time.

Quote: Interesting. I didn't know Aperture made such a big difference in performance. I think mine is set pretty high. I'll change mine and see if it makes any difference. if i am correct, which i am likely not?, the bios setting basically tells windows, or your system how much memory your video card has for processing textures and such, if you say 128, it is going to try and cramp in 128mb of textures into a 64mb card - causing problems - that size should be the same as what your video card actually has for memory.

well, the peson is not a HUGE security risk - but i am just being catious. i put user accounts on each comp - so to get onto the comp with shared folders u got to put in a user / pass. that should do for now. And yes, the person is on ourt internal lan - how ever i cna not see his comp on the network so not sure how my friend setit up on his end. -

Quote: 2 slots for a video card doesn't mean much since most of us don't use the PCI slot next to the AGP slot anyway and it's been common practice for how many years? true, for some people, and alot of mobos come with 6 pci slots. But i do know of people who use all 6, i myself was using all 5 in my old comp vid in AGP NIC (smallest so put near gfx) 2nd nic for ICS sound scsi card for tape backup drive firewire card as for other, some people may have a tv pci card or an add-on mp3 card for their sound blaster. for most it won't be an issue, but there will be that odd person that will bug them or they will have to make some change, but oh well! -

Quote: btw: does anybody know how to get rid of this stupid delay when accessing avi-files on WinXP??? This drives my crazy sicne I have to wait about 4-5 seconds (sometimes even more) after clicking on a movie file before XP allows me to open, move or delete it. And this sucks!!! ;( However, mpeg-files do not seem to have this problem. Greets, ACiD StOUt i am assuming because it needs to load the codec to show the preview window on the left hand pane. you can turn that of you should be okay.
